he cave grew brighter and more beautiful the deeper Emma went. She had seen unrefined materia in it's natural form before, but those caves had nothing on this. Imagining a cave of materia like this, she could just picture the look of orgasmic bliss on Scarlet's face as the images of power ran through her head. Whether or not these crystals also held power that could be drawn from them like materia if one only figured out a method. But they would probably need someone like Scarlet to figure that out. Emma was brilliant but she wasn't exactly an inventor. Then something came from the wall, breaking Emma's thoughts. Her hand instantly went to the grip of her gun as she prepared for an attack, but the small creatures simply looked her over and moved along the path. Emma relaxed her hand and left the gun sheathed. She walked forward again, studying the strange little creatures. Next came butterflies, pouring out of the walls as if physical barriers were only in the imagination. Emma had seen some strange things in her world, but this cave was something else entirely.
And it didn't end there. The strange path finally opened up into a wondrous room. The massive crystals were unlike anything she had seen before, the palette of the room had been immense and she blinked as she took in the many different colours sparkling around her as if a rainbow had been given physical form. Was all of this a natural formation? It seemed too beautiful to have simply happened, and yet she didn't know how one could have constructed a place like this. Energy seemed to flow out of the crystals, seemingly proving Emma's earlier thought about it being possible to use them as an energy source. Scarlet would definitely be 'Kya ha ha'ing all over this place right now. In the center of all of this, the focal point of the masterpiece of a painting she had walked into, was a more familiar looking crystal. It's similarity to the Earth Crystal made it stand out even more to Emma, who was looking for exactly something like that and even a non-magical person like herself could feel the power flowing out of the crystal, washing over her and making her spine tingle. Was it the Water Crystal? All evidence pointed to that being the case. Even as Emma stepped up to it, she could feel the possibilities. All of the things that seemed to come to her mind were water based. Either this was the Water Crystal or something was trying very hard to give that impression.
The biggest oddity in the room, however, was the locked door that sat behind the dais. In fact, that was the thing that started making Emma suspicious. This room contained a crystal that was giving off the impression that it could turn one into a god and the locked door was behind it? Shouldn't that door have blocked her way into this room? Why trap her with a crystal that could give her the power to tear through it with a thought? That made no sense. From the start something had been playing with them. Dumping them in this cave and presenting them with only the path that it wanted. then separating them so it could what? Play some more? What was the point of all of this?
Thankfully, Emma had no interest in power. She didn't want to be a God, she wanted to be a Turk. The lure of Godly powers were for the inferiority complex driven individuals of SOLDIER or the executives dreaming of a SHINRA brand paradise. Turks had all they wanted and simply running into Cissnei and Freyra again gave Emma that. And she had her mission. That's what mattered. Emma knew very little about these crystals, but the fragment of Earth Crystal was suppose to be able to react to the Water Crystal as far as she understood it. Emma took the necklace off and wrapped it around her hand. Then she held the fragment of Earth Crystal up to the supposed Water Crystal. If it actually was the Water Crystal, there should be some sort of reaction, Emma figured. If not, then this wasn't her mission and she was going to start working on getting through that door instead. She couldn't waste time with tricks, after all. She needed to find the real mission.
Emma has shown restraint in the face of Lust. The labyrinth has judged her as worthy, and she is allowed to pass through the room safely.
Before her, the false Water Crystal begins to shake, before slowly cracking. The cracks grow larger and longer before the crystal shatters completely, revealing a crystalline key floating in its place.
The lock on the door trembles for a moment, as if anticipating the next move.

If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
The path ahead seemed simple enough. Rock walls and the occasional claw marks on them led the path forward; all of which was illuminated by the red crystals. Eventually, a red viscus like substance became visible on the rocks. The amount was sparse and even dried in some places. It resembled blood in a way.
"Eww," Zell said, grossed out by not the just appearance but also from the smell of the area. It was musty, yet also smelled of copper. He decided it was best to just leave the fluid alone and not get any kind of strange goop on his hands.
At one point, the SeeD passed by a sword that was stuck within the rocks. It was a plain short sword, and since he wasn't much of a swordsman, Zell left it alone. However, a short walk later, he came across another one.
"Huh? That's weird." At first, he was confused at seeing a second sword stuck in place. It looked awfully familiar to the first, but he wouldn't think much of it. Then he passed it a third time, and this is when he started to notice that something was not right.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?" Irritation began to take hold of him, but Zell knew that he had to keep a level head. It would be stupid of him to loose his temper while he's alone to face some fiendish evil in this awful place. So once again, he pushed forward.
The sword was passed by a fourth time. Then fifth. Then sixth. With each passing, Zell gradually grew more agitated and moved more quickly.
Seven. Eight. Nine.
At this point, he was practically sprinting through the tunnel. The layout was already memorized and he knew he could reach the sword more quickly than before. When he neared it for the tenth time, frustration finally took total control.
"God damn, stupid sword! And you stupid cave!" A swift, yet violent kick struck the sword at it's side. Unfortunately, Zell was now seeing red, which caused the kick hit the sword at an odd and painful angle, making the nerves in his foot to shoot notifications of pain straight up his leg. "OW! CRAP!"
Zell's hands quickly reached down to hold onto his sore food while he hopped on the uninjured one, still cussing to himself in whispers. But the opening of the new passage made him pause. Was that all I had to do he thought, becoming even more frustrated. I could have done that the second or third pass! Damnit!
Once the throbbing subsided, Zell moved into the larger cavern. It was obvious that they were still underground, but the area was still lit by the crystals, with the addition of torches now.
Something else was in the cavern with him. Shadows were seen and voices could be heard. Quickly, Zell's body lowered to crouch as he tried to see what was ahead. After moving more closely to the source, the attire of the figures could finally be seen. They were Galbadians.
"What the hell..." he muttered. Zell remained cautious and tried to hear what was being said among them. Bits and pieces could be made out, although their voices didn't sound normal. Something really wasn't right. This isn't real he thought. There's no Balamb here. There's no Galbadia. This is a test. It has to be!
Rather than loose his head, Zell turned and made his way to the door that was implied to be the exit. He got close; almost close enough to touch the handle. But something was said by the soldiers that made him freeze up. Zell's body stiffened and his heart raced. They made a comment about one of the homes in Balamb; a home that supposedly housed the enemy SeeDs. They mentioned an older woman who was captured and would be tortured for information. They were talking about his mom.
There was no way that Zell could contain himself any longer. Adrenaline dumped itself into his body and caused him to suddenly shakeout of anger. True or not, the mere thought of someone hurting his family put the teen into a rage.
"Shut up!" he shouted, spinning around to look at the others. "Just-- Shut the hell up!!!" Zell shouted as loud as he could and didn't even think about his actions until it was too late. Gloved hands shot up to cover his mouth, realizing the mistake he just made. The voices stopped and the shadows weren't moving any longer.
Whether or not he just made a grave mistake didn't matter. Zell only turned and tried to dart through the door as fast as he can in hopes of making it out of this messed up place.
The entrance to the large room rumbles, before quickly sealing with a magic barrier. It is a Wall spell that will reflect any physical or magical attacks thrown toward it. Likewise, the same barrier appears around the lock that leads to the way forward. It rests against the door strongly, unable to be touched.
The voices stop speaking, and the shadows of the men still. Their physical forms turn into an inky blackness that seeps into the rocks below, all coming together to form a strange, wriggling substance. The shadows on the wall all combine, reflecting the blackened mass on the floor as something begins to take shape.
A roar echoes off of the stone walls. From the black goop extends one, scaly appendage, tipped in huge, sharp claws. Another springs from the other side, flexing before touching the stone floor. Webbed scales extend from the elbows, reaching out like fins. A great, long maw breaks through the inky darkness, opening in another roar, sharp teeth clashing down again and again. Finally, the creature breaks through the sticky, black web and turns it’s cold, sharp eyes to Zell; its prey.
The creature is a Sahagin, and with another mighty roar from it’s scaled throat, it charges after Zell.

It's nice in here. It's far, far too nice. He's been around the bend enough to know that dungeons like this aren't normally supposed to be so friendly. The ground is soft, the air is warm, and it becomes far too easy to simply lay down and sleep. One of those places, was it? That goaded the reckless to relax and lower their guard. He sighed a bit, watching the walls go by, until at last he found himself in a room with food and drink galore. Any sense of relaxation he felt immediately dissipated. Which was an odd reaction for most considering that sort of thing would be welcome. It was just, well... his shadow moved a tad as the form took shape. No need to hide him here, at least, when it was just the two of them. The black, blue, and gold outfit setting him apart from Alexander, even though both of them knew the face hiding beneath the helmet. Alexander preferred the helmet, really, the face was too weird.
But that voice that often elected to speak only for the sake of his interest manifested, and Fray was content to stretch his legs.
There was a chuckle, as his own voice blended into another's. Fray always had a bit of an odd circumstance. Alexander often found it difficult to explain that Fray was Alexander, and yet was also Fray. "A banquet. Really?" The Greatsword and Cane hung strapped to the Shadow's back. Alex never knew for sure how much the actual Fray was a Conjurer. Sidurgu had told him so, but he wasn't sure to what extent the man had dabbled in the arts. Still, his shadow carefully examined everything laid out for them. Here, they had privacy, here, Alexander didn't have to deal with the weird stares of getting into an argument with a potential figment of his imagination. Fray was a weird thing to explain.
Alex shook his head, looking to the bed. It looked so soft."It wasn't tailored to the individual, I think. Not sure why it would be." It was almost as if Fray knew where Alex was looking, because he did, stepping between the Warrior of Light and sweet blissful rest... and likely death, all things considered.
"How many times has everything gone to hell at a banquet, again?" It's a question to keep him focused, somewhat. To take his thoughts away from rest and relaxation. It worked, at least, as Alexander found the door on the other side, stepping over to find it locked and bound with a chain. He sighed. The bed seemed to nice. Which, right, shit, focus, he needed to focus.
Alexander breathed as he brought out his Star Globe. First, he cast an Esuna on himself, just to make sure he hadn't gotten pulled into something, before he cast a Dispel on the foods. "Well, there was the one at Ul'dah, when I got framed for regicide. Then there was that time I got poisoned right before the peace talks in Ishgard. Oh, don't forget Thancred getting his soul ripped from his body at another banquet, I can go on." He reminisced, keeping his mind on the topic at hand. Lycoris thought him paranoid. But there was a damn good reason Alexander didn't like anyone else serving him food or drinks. Really, this trap or test was doomed to failure from the start. But, focus! Fray was good like that, and his inner self interest looked over to the bed, pointing at it with his thumb.
"It's an obvious trap."
Finding the chain suddenly too difficult and heavy to remove. Alexander gave it a blank stare before he had to resort to other options. Taking out Silversnake, Alex began to channel the magic between that and the Star Globe. "No shit." A stream of fire burst forth as Alex sustained it, running it against the heavy metal. If it couldn't be removed the normal way, he'd just break it. No shit this was a trap. That much was obvious going in. His thoughts wandered back to the bed, how nice it would be, but went back to the others as well. He still felt bad about the big guy, really hoped he wasn't sending him to fight some giant fish monster. Guess he'd find out if he came out the other side. Man, Alex would feel horrible if the big guy never came through.
Alexander and Fray are wise to the trap set forth by the spirits of the Labyrinth. Though dispelling the food does nothing, the Esuna Alexander casts upon himself clears his mind of the magic in the room that tempted him toward food and rest.
The fire Alex uses against the chain lock is successful. He is free to move forward, as he has shown restraint in the face of Sloth.
---
Though Barret doesn’t interact with the temptations from the room, his hesitation upsets the spirits of the Labyrinth. Knowing he would be an unwilling ghost among the others, that he wouldn’t torture lost souls as they do, the spirits begin channeling their magic to dispel him from the labyrinth.
The floating orb nearby begins to shake, before floating over toward Barret. Once it touches him, he falls unconscious. The light consumes him, dropping him unceremoniously into a rickety boat perched outside of a small cave entrance. One of the spirits sits at the edge of the boat, willing it to move forward, silencing the waves as it goes.
It takes a long time, but eventually the boat washes up on shore around the Pale Coast with its unconscious occupant inside. The spirit leaves the vessel, dissipating into the air.
---
When Fran, Emma, and Alex all make their way through their doors, they’re greeted by a large, open chasm. It’s well lit by the same, familiar blue-green crystals that greeted them when they first arrived in the labyrinth, and a still, but chilly air sinks into their skin and clothes.
Opposite of their doors, a tall wall stands. At the center of the wall is an opening, currently sealed off by magic. The magic barrier is reddish in color -- the very same color of crystal that adorns one of the doors that has yet to open. The unopened door rattles occasionally, indicating that something is still going on inside.
The path ahead of you is blocked, but the paths behind you seal themselves shut. The doors slam closed, one after one, leaving you temporarily stranded.
Do you wait patiently for your missing fellows? Or do you fight against the magic, trying to move forward or backward? Do you share what you’ve seen, or keep the secrets close?
Who will emerge, and who will be forever lost to the Labyrinth? [Posting order for this round: Zell -> DM -> Fran -> Emma -> Alex -> DM]

If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Despite his best efforts, Zell did not make it to the door in time to escape. The exit magically seal itself to prevent the egress, and the shadows of the Galbadian soldiers changed. Each one of the shadows melted in a nasty manner before melding together to form an entirely different shape. When the process was completed, a new enemy emerged.
The beast itself was much larger than the teenage SeeD. Thick scales covered its body and razor sharp teeth lined it's fish-like mouth. Even the talons the beast's appendages looked deadly. a fearsome foe, indeed.
The bellowing roar that the Sahagin released was enough to stagger the blonde momentarily. Zell braced himself for it, bringing up his arms to protect his face from the air that almost knocked him over. But when his limbs lowered, the creature had already begun its assault.
The Sahagin rushed towards Zell and made an attempt to devour the human in a single bite. However, the mercenary was quick on his feel and jumped back to avoid the chomp. The beast attempted to bite him again, but this time it ran into a wall after Zell dove out of its path.
"Damn," Zell said in pain as he lifted himself from the ground. The monster took a second to shake its head from the impact. Zell knew this was his time to strike; before the beast could recover and continue harassing him.
Without missing a beat, Zell dashed towards the Sahagin and struck its side with a flurry of punches. They were by no means his strongest attack, but moreso a way to test its defenses. Each punch managed to shake the Sahagin, albeit slightly. The beast itself was not happy with a human beating into its sides and spun to swat Zell away with its tail. The attack connected and sent him tumbling away.
Zell managed to roll onto his feet and return to his fighting stance. The Sahagin, even more agitated now, turned to zero in on its prey once more. Another attack was imminent.
"A tough guy, huh," he remarked, pulling a fist back and concentrated on focusing all of his spiritual energy into it. His hand glowed with a swirl of red and yellow as the beast drew closer. "Not this time!"
Under normal circumstances, Zell would use this Burning Rave technique by punching the ground to disperse energy and damage his opponents from beneath. This time, he chose to disperse it in a different manner. Into the beast.
The Sahagin let out one final roar before swooping in for that fatal snap. Zell, on the other hand, lunged forward before it could open its mouth. His fist shot out and struck the creature in the face. The intent was not to just hit the monster, but to also transfer all of the pent up energy out of his hand and straight through the creature. If it worked the way he had hoped, then the sight of the Sahagin would not be pretty when the fight was over.
Cracks appeared across its body, with light radiating out from within. It roared, cried, and made other unpleasant noises until the Sahagin's body could no longer contain the power that Zell displaced into it. Then, it exploded into bits and left Zell as the victor.
The creature was slain, and he hoped that his display of power was enough to life the barrier on the exit.
The creature was defeated by Zell’s powerful hand, leaving it to explode into nothing but light. Red crystals littered the floor where it’s body had been only moments ago, settling with nothing more than a few gentle clinks.
The barriers faded away gently, revealing the door and the lock at hand. The lock glowed gently for a moment, before it loudly clicked, falling to the floor with a loud clank.
The door swung open on its own, revealing to Zell the open cavern where the others were awaiting him.
Only one door did not open. But, those left can’t afford to wait.

oming through her door, Emma glanced around. Bunny girl and Alexander also arrived, but not the other two. Emma said nothing and stepped forward to check the magical wall barring their way. All these barriers... what sentience was working against them? Testing them? What exactly was the purpose of all of this? Maybe they were all dead and this was just some kind of purgatory. Well, with no proof of that Emma needed to believe they were still alive and that all of this mattered. The question was, how did they move forward now? Was there another test to be had in this room?
The coloured light was interesting. It was similar to one of the colours previously. But there was only one left. If Emma was correct, they all needed to finish their tests to proceed, but there were two missing. Had one failed? Soon enough the last door opened and the blonde teen was revealed. Which meant that the familiar man with the gun arm was the odd one out.
"I think we lost one." she remarked to the group, stating it simply as if remarking on the weather. She kept her focus on the barrier however, ready to step through it if it dropped. she was watching the light to see if it vanished. It was always possible there was some other test in here before they could proceed, however. Either way, she needed to be ready to move.

One Brings Shadow, One Brings Light
to this riddle, all souls are tied
When Alex arrived outside, he saw that two of them made it. Fran was obvious, considering how she was back in their world, he still believed that she probably scared whatever was in her door. The other, well, he didn't have enough of a bead on her yet. Still, they were missing two, one of them that rambunctious young kid, and the other the man that got shoved into another door. He waited with the other two, just for them to come out. One of them did, the kid anyway. So that was a plus. But time passed, and there was no sign of Barret. "..." Alex didn't say anything, content to just wait for a little bit. But it eventually became clear that the big guy wasn't coming through that door, and they were running out of time. Alex cast his gaze at the ground. The others were ready to move on, and he'd made a bad call. All he could do was just keep going.
For those we have lost. For those we can yet save. He felt like muttering it under his breath as he pulled out his star globe. "I didn't get a chance to do this earlier, so let me do that now." One by one, he casted an Aspected Benefic on the others to give them a second regen effect. If nothing else, he was going to make sure what was left of the party didn't die horribly, he could do that much at least. Taking his sword out as well, he planted the tip in the ground. "If need be, I can take point. I'm good at drawing attention and soaking up hits." Dark Knight at least made him useful for that. Taunts and provokes and beatings galore. Without the big guy, he supposed that just defaulted to him, anyway.
So what came next, then? "Anything else we want to get out of the way?" They couldn't really wait anymore, could they? Could they go back? No, the doors were sealed. "Any objections?" Otherwise, he was going to march on forward, so they could get out of this place just a little faster.
