Quistis frowned a little at Tellah’s words. They were filled with the pain and grief of a parent who lost a child. She watched as he moved away from the table and continued talking to Anna. She stood and shook her head. Nothing she could say could change his feelings. However, “I’m sure you did what a parent would do. You wanted the best for Anna, even if you both disagreed what that was.” Or maybe Quistis was just talking to things she did not understand. Was she being callous in presuming. She should shut up her reassurance while she was ahead.
[break][break]
But she couldn’t help but imagine the fathers and mothers on the ship, also struggling to do what was best to protect their daughters too.
[break][break]
Quistis moved to follow him out, though an eerie and thick silence as she followed behind him. Only Garnet seemed to fill it with her own thoughts on the matter. But it didn’t stop the cries from the faux-Anna. She called out to her father. Quistis did her best to not look back at it. It was too heartbreaking for her, and she could only imagine what Tellah felt walking away from it.
[break][break]
The storm picked up for a second time. It raged and beat at them. It tried to bring them back to quell it, but their choice was already made.
[break][break]
Reality proved more terrifying. They were all about to drown together in a tiny room. Quistis reacted quickly to press the crystalline button. Who invented such manner of torture, she had to wonder. Someone who obviously wanted someone to suffer terribly emotionally while they quietly slipped away from hypoxia. The water found its release and they were safe from the chamber’s watery grip. For now.
[break][break]
She glanced over Garnet and Tellah to check if they were okay. Then silently she followed the path down the stairs. She would go ahead while they gathered themselves. She found the dark arbiters gone…
[break][break]
But the crystal still seemed distressed. The darkness loomed in it like a raging beast. She approached the crystal cautiously. “Do you have magic to heal it from the darkness?” She looked to Tellah and Garnet. Then, she looked back at the crystal, “I can attempt to draw it out…” SeeD mercenaries were trained to pull Guardian Forces and magical essences out of wherever they dwelled and then ‘junction’ them to something. Be it their person or a weapon. She frowned, “...however the essence would need a container...If I draw it into myself then…” She shook her head, “Whatever happens, you must put an end to it.”
[break][break]
But her companions had been through enough, haven’t they? They were not trained mercenaries who were willing to put down someone to end a task. She turned back to them, “I won’t attempt this recklessly, if you have other options at hand.” She began to recount the spells she had on hand. She had cast her limited abilities when caught in the shrine’s grasp. So White Wind was off the table for her.
[break][break]
She heard the whispers of the Guardian Force Siren. Her soft voice and the tingling of her harp called to Quistis. Quistis approached the crystal and closed her eyes. She called on Siren’s Treatment ability - a spell similar to Esuna, except it had the effect of removing 'Doom'. A soft light appeared between her and the crystal as she concentrated on the healing.
