Lief Ramses |
Lief hit the ground with a resounding thud. The poacher hardly had time to realise he was falling before his face had met sand. A grunt of pain issued from his mouth as he slowly struggled to his feet, hot sand sticking to his clothes. The last thing he could remember was a flashing light of power, someone shouting, and then all of a sudden he was here in Eluut Sa--
Lief looked around to confirm which desert he was somehow in by the landscape that surrounded him but he quickly came to the conclusion that he didn’t know what desert he was in. He took a breath to try to stop the panic from coming over him. Chill, maybe it’s just some part of a desert you haven’t been to yet. Like a Jagd or something. he thought trying to think himself out of worrying. But it only made him worry more because he suddenly couldn’t remember what a Jagd was.
”Alright, alright. So maybe I hit my head a little bit on the way down.” Lief said out loud, looking around the landscape for something to trigger his apparently failing memory. ”Uh… What do those mages ask when you’re hurt?” for some reason talking out loud was comforting him. ”Right. Name. I’m…. Lief. Lief Ramses. Age. I’m 18. Annnnnnd Clan. Clan Onyx. Not that I can remember what the hell it means by Clan but I’m in one, cool.” a sigh from the youth as he realised that all he could see for miles was sand. “Welp.” he said relatively defeated “We aren’t in Ivalice anymore, kupo.”
Ivalice. Well that was something he remembered; that was the name of the country he was from. Remembering those minor things started to make him feel a bit better. He sighed again, dusting the hot sand from his clothes. Something inside him told him maybe picking a direction and walking in it would be in his best interest. Seeing no other option but to listen to whatever vague memories were nagging at him in his head, Lief set off in a direction--the one that had the largest sand hill.
When he came upon the sand hill and started to climb it, he suddenly heard a noise. He paused in mid step, looking around trying to figure out what was making it. Maybe there was someone around after all? When the noise started up again, Lief’s mind told him it was familiar, but before he could remember exactly what it was, a monster burst over the top of the sand hill he was climbing up on.
”SHIT!” Lief went reeling backwards, his hands automatically pulling his bow--where did the bow come from?--out from it’s slung position on his back. The monster looked something similar to an ant with huge mencing pinchers on it. It reminded Lief of an antlion or a jawbreaker, but Lief wasn't so sure exactly what those were. Whatever it was, it was obviously dangerous and obviously coming right towards him.
”ENGAGEMENT” he shouted on the top of his lungs. He wasn’t one hundred percent sure why he felt the need to shout that as it seemed to do literally nothing. But there must have been some reason why that would amount to something, or else he wouldn't have reflexively shouted it. Well, now the panic was setting in.
Lief jumped back a few steps, expecting the panic in his mind to send him running in the other direction, but instinct took over as he notched an arrow into his bow and fired. It went sailing, perfectly arching itself between where the head met the body on the beast. It roared in pain as Lief came to the conclusion that he had automatically remembered its weak point.
”Ok, so I’m actually good at this.” Lief said as the monster shook off the pain and continued to come towards the poacher. This time he fired an arrow towards the sky the shot turning into some sort of sword in the midair and coming crashing right down on the weak spot of that ant-thing. The sounded that issued from the monster confirmed that that ability--whatever witchcraft he had just performed with his bow--had done heavier damage. The creature was struggling now, and Lief was now able to put some significant distance between him and that monster. Another few shots from his bow (some normal and some that magical sword thing) and the monster fell relatively easily.
The poacher stood there for a moment in a bit of amazement at his ability to take down a creature without even a scratch; feeling much more like it was practice rather than a near death experience. But the hunter wasn’t going to push his luck with his abilities so he resolved that moving--and moving quickly---were his best bets. So without another word, Lief made his way back towards the hill that he had attempted to climb before, trudging off in that direction hoping that civilisation wasn’t too far off the beaten path.
