[attr="class","infoNotes"]She's had her fun. Now let's have some real fun.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Walking on Sunshine[break]And don't it feel good?
[attr="class","crashBody"]
Cissnei carefully studied Celes as she listed the compliments off then paused to enjoy her drink. The Turk made sure to stuff a good wad of sherbet in her mouth to stifle a chuckle that threatened to escape upon hearing the groan that came from Celes’s lips. It was clear she was uncomfortable with the flattery Caius was spreading about her. Cissnei was terribly careful what she said around Caius because she knew he had no filter. Though he always made good gossip to hear on her end. The Turk could always obtain plenty of information from that one. [break][break] Cissnei didn’t respond at first as she mulled over Celes’s responses. “You can still be special to a friend.” She said finally, pushing some wind-blown hair behind her ear. “That’s what makes friends bond? Commonalities and a little extra something special.” As if Cissnei really knew. The closest thing to a friend she had were the Turks she used to work with. “‘Special’ meaning they will be there to support you and that they speak you up, rather than down, behind your back.” Besides, Celes had been talking herself down. Cissnei figured she would at least show Celes that she was something more to the eyes of others. Caius was just a better example of it. A more fun one to see Celes’s expressions. [break][break] Her thoughts mulled over Celes’s suggestions of what she liked. “Hmm. I think you’d like a Shirley Temple or a Strawberry Daiquiri then.” Cissnei hummed out her thoughts. Giving Celes a small reprieve from thinking about Caius. “Maybe next time? Or if we stay long enough, we will grab another drink. Sounds like you could use some more girl time.” [break][break] Another nod came from Cissnei as she learned Celes’s background. She wondered how she would have ranked in SOLDIER, for Cissnei felt sure she would have at least made it to that elite ranking system. “It's funny, isn’t it? The higher ranked you are, the more likely you are stuck with the administrative work. It's good to see some action from time to time though.” Cissnei certainly was happy to get out of the office whenever possible. [break][break] “Yes, an investigator.” Cissnei confirmed with a smile. “Someone who keeps one ear to the ground and solves problems for other people.”She gave a slight shrug. Cissnei was no good at talking about herself. “I’d give you a business card, but that’s in my other suit.” It was a gentle joke. “It’s called Angel Eyes Detective Agency. And I take on cases big or small. Though, I’m not opposed to working with those with more fighting prowess from time to time.” Cissnei was able to solve certain problems with a more delicate touch, as needed. Eloquence, disguise, hacking, spying... But, she knew there were problems that needed a more forceful methodology. [break][break] It seemed the romance novel bit seemed to throw her through a loop. Cissnei gave a sly smile. Listening in amusement as Celes fumbled on trying to fight some insinuations Cissnei hadn’t been making. Curious. “Ok. Ok. I didn’t say you told him to read novels. Only that he went and did research after he was clueless.” Cissnei raised both hands up and waved them in front of her, though her face seemed more amused than apologetic. “I know Caius is clueless about his niceties being flirtatious. Even after reading such novels, he’s probably still clueless. I’m done talking about him now.” [break][break] She took a long sip of her drink and let the scent of the ocean waft over her. “Hmm…” She decided not to mention Caius in her next statement. She already worked Celes up over him, so her fun was done now. It was time to get to know this mysterious girl he mentioned quite often. “I might be the wrong person to be asking about age… I tend to fall for someone’s intelligence, regardless of their age or appearance.” She set her halfway done drink off to the side. Cissnei had specific tastes that were a result of her upbringing. It made her a difficult match for someone, not that she was truly looking at that moment. But if the opportunity came by, she wondered what she would do. “And if you’re not interested, then there are plenty of fish in the sea. If you want one that is.” She turned her ochre eye back to the swaying ocean.
[break][break] “You didn’t come here to talk about work, right? You were trying to find a place to relax. Was it simply because you were overworked?” She gave a smile as if she had something in mind. There was plenty to do at the beach if one looked for it. “I can use a partner for some activities.”

Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
”You can still be special to a friend,” Cissnei said. ”Special meaning they will be there to support you and that they speak you up, rather than down, behind your back.”
Celes frowned. Oh. Well that was Caius, she supposed. It felt strange, deep down, in a way that she didn’t like. She was mad. She was mortified in fact, and now Cissnei was telling her otherwise? Celes didn’t know if she’d been special to anyone before in her life -- for more than her sword and magic that was. Even her friends had been…distant to say the least. Even Locke had preferred another woman over her.
But Caius? She supposed there was something special there. By Cissnei’s definition anyway. He certainly talked her up behind her back. That was the problem, wasn’t it? It was too glowing. Embarrassing. She didn’t want the whole world putting her on a pedestal for her sword or her looks. It was uncomfortable there. And really, she’d done nothing for herself to earn it.
”Girl time?” Celes blinked at her. It was...strange thinking of it that way. And new. Another thing she’d never had in her life, really. Had there ever been another girl in her life to have time with? Only Terra, really, and she had her own problems. Celes had gone shopping with Yuna once. But with all the talk of daggers and magic, it hadn’t felt much like ’girl time’ at all.
”Well, if you’re sure.” She swirled the clump of sherbet around in its foam. In truth, she didn’t like it much. It was too thick and clumpy. Still, she wouldn’t tell Cissnei that. ”That sounds useful,” she said instead. ”I’ll let you know if something comes up.”
An investigator? Someone who followed clues? Celes hesitated, wondering if there was anything she could use. She had no interest in going home. In fact, she would have fought it if she could, but was there anything else…?
”If I came…” she said slowly. ”Could you find someone? Or a few people, I guess. I have the gil unless you want to ring me out.” She smiled as a joke. She doubted the woman was unfair. If she couldn’t get away with it anyway. ”I’m trying to find some old friends just like anyone else. You must get a lot of money that way.”
The sherbet was melting. She brought her lips to the plastic rim and sipped again. The second swallow was better, but she wished it had a little more kick. She could use some liquor right about now.
”Caius. Clueless. I guess you really can read people.” Celes sighed. She still wanted to punch him for the things he’d said, but…
”I guess I did tell him that. The clueless part, not the novels. He’s always saying weird things. You can’t know you’re being uncomfortable if you don’t know what you’re saying.” Subtext was not Caius’ friend. He could read women about as well as he could read a brick wall.
”But enough about that!” Celes stood straight and tall. She felt shorter without the slight heel in her boots, but it was a fine day, and hadn’t she come here to have fun? She wouldn’t leave without it. She was determined. ”I can relax!”
Because that’s what relaxed people said. She wanted to groan.
”I’m not overworked, I just…” Wanted to experience it, she supposed. Relaxation that was. Pretending that everything was fine for a day and forgetting everything else. She’d never really had the chance.
Celes shook her head. ”I just want to be here,” she said. She let her eyes wander back to the beach. From the top of the dune, she could see just about everything -- the swimmers and sunbathers and the scurrying dots of children with paddles and miniature buckets. She couldn’t see much in the way of activities except maybe…
”There were some people playing ball,” she said. Celes had almost been hit with one afterall. ”I don’t know what they were playing, but maybe we could try that?” Something physical sounded nice. Physical and competitive. She could handle that.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Volleyball first, then sand castles. You know. Girl stuff.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Walking on Sunshine[break]And don't it feel good?
[attr="class","crashBody"]
“Seems you already came to me. Even if by accident.” Cissnei stated finishing her drink, if one could call a sherbet float that. She was known for her own terrible sweet tooth and ate them too quickly. She sucked the residue off her bottom lip as she thought about it. “I can find you a few people. I’ll simply need their description, possible hobbies, anything that makes them standout...and their social security number.” The last one was a joke, but she knew that many people here wouldn’t know what that was. At least she could chuckle at the joke silently. “But, I am on break now. You can always draft me a correspondence with the details about them and see me again in the morning. I can stop by the Dragonblades headquarters, if you like. We can discuss payment then.” That was around here somewhere, wasn’t it? [break][break] She gave a devilish smile at the idea of ringing someone out. Those were the good old days. “I take gil, as well as barter.” Many people did not have gil to spend. Cissnei was more than happy to exchange resources and information. She studied Celes for a moment, before meeting her eyes. “I don’t take full payment up front. Only a small portion. There’s a possibility they weren’t transferred to this world, or they may have amnesia.” Cissnei was sure she could guess the rest. She would be unable to fulfill certain requests or she may not be satisfied with the results. Cissnei could not bring back someone’s memories, after all. [break][break] She waved a hand and turned to enjoy the steel drums. “But that is for tomorrow.” [break][break] Caius was very clueless. Cissnei gave a soft shrug. “He doesn’t know he’s being uncomfortable.” She agreed with Celes. “Sounds like there needs to be a talk. Let him know what makes you uncomfortable, so that he does know. I am sure he’ll understand.” He seemed the type to accommodate others. He had the overly good streak in him, despite his background. [break][break] Cissnei tilted her head as Celes stood up and exclaimed she was relaxed. Or was she demanding herself to be relaxed. Either way, she seemed a tense person in need of relaxing. “Then, let’s be here.” Cissnei confirmed her reason. “Not mentally at work. Not thinking of everyone else. But right here.” She gave a soft smile and pointed down at the ground they stood on. [break][break] “Ball?” Cissnei searched her memory about the ball she saw Celes give back. “Oh. Volleyball. There’s a competition today. There’s a few competitions actually. With the masquerade over and so many people here from out of town, they decided it would be one last hurrah here at the beach.” Cissnei stood up too and looked up at Celes. “Let’s go sign up.” Cissnei wasn’t going to let her back out now. “We can practice a little with the others, if you’d like. Maybe watch a little first, so you can see what the rules are like.” [break][break] She stepped along the hot cobbled path briskly before sinking her feet into the more tolerable sand. “They also have sand castle competitions. I thought that would be fun.” Cissnei liked to get her hands dirty. And there was always something relaxing about focusing on an activity and feeling the elements in your hands. “Would you do that with me later?” [break][break] Up ahead there was a line of people at the makeshift table. The table had papers on clipboards, one for different activities.

Poor Celes.
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
Volleyball. That was the name of it. She felt herself steeled with a combination of fear and determination -- the same kind she’d once felt leading armies. It was the kind of feeling that could only come from being completely out of one’s depth. Out of one’s depth and eager to prove that wrong.
”Oh.” A competition. She could do that. Not that she’d ever competed in her life -- or in fact ever played a sport now that she thought about it. It had always felt silly to her, watching the men jump around under arbitrary rules that never seemed to mean anything. Still, they’d always seemed to have some amount of fun.
She wanted to have fun.
”Right.” She nodded, determined. ”We’ll sign up. And then…” Learn those arbitrary rules she was always looking down on. No, no. She was going to have fun today. Arbitrary didn’t matter. ”Well, the two of us have to have an advantage, right? If we can fight monsters then we can hit a ball.”
That’s what she told herself anyway.
Celes started back down the sand dune, taking a last few sips of her drink to make sure she’d had enough that it wouldn’t be rude when she tossed it. Which she did. It dripped down the inside of the trash can in syrupy streams.
Once they’d reached the line for sign-ups, Celes turned to Cissnei with a smile that she hoped looked natural. ”I wouldn’t mind at all,” she said. After everything Cissnei had done for her, the least Celes could do was give her a partner for sand castles.
Whatever those were.
The line inched forward as another pair drifted off, laughing. The tournament’s administrators sat behind the make-shift, temporary table in fold-up chairs, papers spread out in front of them with enough pens to sign them. They held clipboards and talked among each other whenever they had a break between new competitors. One of them wore a whistle around his neck.
Celes edged forward. He looked up at her expectantly. ”What can I sign you up for?”
”Volleyball,” Celes said confidently before she paused and glanced back at Cissnei. ”And, er. Sand castles?”
Apparently this was a fine enough answer because the man nodded and slid two papers at them. ”That’ll be a tough one,” he said. ”There’s some good competition out here.”
Oh good. Celes looked back towards the men and women still lingering around in their sandy swim trunks and bikini suits. They were fit and slender with gleaming hair and flat stomachs. Then there was Celes with her calloused hands, battle-worn muscles, and hair that absolutely refused to stop clumping together in the heat. She took the pen, and put it to paper.
”Celes Chere,” she said as she wrote her own name. ”And Cissnei…” She looked back to her partner uncertainly. She offered the pen to her. ”I don’t really know how to spell it.”Or her last name for that matter.
[attr="class","infoNotes"]I totally looked up the rules. Shh. Don't tell anyone. Feel free to rush this along if you'd like.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Walking on Sunshine[break]and don't it feel good!
[attr="class","crashBody"]
Cissnei could feel the fire of determination in Celes, but it was also offset by the rigidness of work that she was used to. This was clearly unfamiliar territory to Celes, and even her mannerisms were stiff. Perhaps, if she went outside her comfort zone, she would learn a little more about herself and the things she liked.
[break][break] And maybe once Celes got going into the activity, it would help loosen her up a little. “It’s a little more delicate than fighting monsters.” Cissnei said lightly, arms crossed as she mulled over the comparison thoughtfully. “But I certainly can't say it's dissimilar. The other team is the foe and the ball is the weapon.” She smiled lightly at some memories of competing with members of ShinRa’s military. Some were better at controlling their strength than others. “Luckily, I have some tricks up my sleeve.” When in doubt, the stars were always lucky with her and those she chose. Cissnei wasn’t beyond cheating.
[break][break] Cissnei was slightly surprised at Celes agreeing to sand castles. Now to make that fun… Hmm.
[break][break] Despite the line, it did not seem to take long. At least the event coordinators on the beach were efficient. She turned from studying the coordinators back at Celes, who seemed unsure about sand castles. Cissnei gave a nod of encouragement and the coordinator did not seem to miss a beat. Cissnei watched her sign the paper after glancing at their competition. Cissnei only had to glance to know some of the competitors trained in volleyball. However, there were obviously new people to the ranks who were only here for some fun.
[break][break] Cissnei turned back when Celes was unsure how to spell her name. Cissnei gave a smirk. Maybe she should write down a variant. Cisne. Sisnei. Sicnei. It would not have been the first time. But alas, that would defeat the purpose of leaving her mark for the other Turks to find her. Little clues were never overlooked by them. And since that was the case, Cissnei made sure to leave loud blaring footprints for them to follow.
[break][break] “That’s okay. I got that part.” Cissnei gave her a wink and accepted the pen. She wrote her name for those events and looked up at the coordinators. “Do you have a list of rules or someone we can practice volleyball with?” She had a feeling the rules were the same as they were in her world. Didn’t hurt to have a refresher though.
[break][break] The one with the whistle gave a nod. “We have two volunteers available to help out. This way!” He gestured with his clipboard towards two young people who appeared to be fit and eager. Cissnei wondered if they were off-duty life guards. “The competition starts in an hour. They’ll make an announcement about the order.” The male volunteer told them Cissnei approached, “Is this your first time playing beach volleyball?” Cissnei shook her head, but instead of stating Celes needed to know the rules, she simply stated, “It is my first time playing in Zephon. I just wanted to make sure the rules were the same.”
[break][break] “No problem, stand here.” The blond female pointed them inside the boundaries of the field. “First thing to know is these are 1 match games. The first to 21 points wins, but only does so if they win by at least two points.” She paused to think about what to include next. “You win a point if your ball lands on the ground in their court or if the other team commits some fault. These faults are failure to serve, the ball lands outside the boundaries, or the ball isn’t returned over the net in three moves.”
[break][break] She looked between Cissnei and Celes. “Any questions so far?”

Lol you can move on to summary now if you want
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
It was spelled ’Cissnei.’ No last name. Just Cissnei. Celes examined the neat script until it was taken by the overly helpful volunteer and filed wherever they kept it. It was funny. No matter how much she learned about Cissnei, she was left with just as much of a mystery as she’d started with.
The volunteers led them to a practice court, and Celes followed awkwardly. That was nice of Cissnei to ask. Celes tried to think of it more as a warm-up than a trial by fire. She only partly succeeded.
”One match. Twenty-one points.” She repeated it to herself so she’d have to remember. ”Land it on the ground, but don’t hit it outside the boundaries.” She looked around to find white lines drawn in a rectangle in the sand. They stood on one side of a tall net. Her feet sank into the sand, squeezing up between her toes.
She could do this, couldn’t she?
”I don’t really know enough to ask questions.” Celes smiled apologetically. The volunteer nodded as though this wasn’t a surprise.
”Well, you can learn as you go. We’ll be your opponents for now.”
The two volunteers took the other side of the court. ”We’ll serve!” they announced, and took two positions -- one in front and one in back. Now that formation she knew. Celes settled naturally behind Cissnei. She’d spent most of her time as a spell-caster lately, and knew the back row well.
The opposing back row player took the banded white ball, tossed it in the air, and hit it with their forearms. It sailed over the net then kept going in a straight trajectory towards Celes. She readied herself, let out a steady breath, and grounded her stance.
Then she caught the ball, spun it around, and threw it right back.
It landed with a heavy thud on their side of the net. Celes perked up, expecting a point but getting a whistle instead. The volunteer shook his head. ”You can’t catch it,” he said. ”You have to hit it some other way. We suggest your arms, like this.” He mimed the same motion that had sent the ball flying towards her in the first place. She felt her cheeks redden.
”Oh.”
”That’s our fault. We should have told you.”
”No, that’s okay.”
Why had she thought she could do this?
The front volunteer tossed it to the back, and he readied his serve again. Celes closed her eyes, took a breath, and opened them. Hadn’t she always told her men to never get caught up on failure? That it was all for the sake of learning? That was all well and good when it came to fighting, but Celes didn’t have a clue about sports. Still, the idea was the same.
She was used to reacting quickly. She was used to sharpening her mind. So what if the movement already felt awkward? She’d do it. She knew she could.
Once again, the ball was hit with that same strange forearm bop. Once again, it went sailing towards Celes. She let her body react on its own, moving her into position before her head caught up and she tried to get her arms into position. Okay. Okay. Just push it up like this…
The ball struck her arms hard. The impact stung, but she pushed up anyway without any real direction. It didn’t go over the net, but instead flew back into the air about twelve feet up and four feet in front of her. Her stomach sank.
”Cissnei!” She called out to her partner, hoping that it wasn’t already lost. Please let me have this!
[attr="class","infoNotes"]Short interlude, but feel free to time skip to the first match!
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Walking on Sunshine[break]and don't it feel good!
[attr="class","crashBody"]
The rules weren’t so complex. They were certainly the same as how they played in Costa del Sol, so far at least. She studied Celes from the corner of her ochre eyes. It seemed the woman was not so sure of the rules as much as she was in a battle position for the game. But, hey. If that’s what was fun to her, everyone had their own way of enjoying themselves.
[break][break] Cissnei took her place near the front, her feet sinking pleasantly into the warm sand. Winning or losing mattered naught to her. She was just here for the ride during her ‘break’. She stood at ease, waiting for people to get into position before opening her stance ready to lunge for a ball.
[break][break] The ball sailed over Cissnei’s head and she turned to watch Celes…
[break][break] Catch the ball.
[break][break] The red head cracked a smile and tried to stifle a chuckle. It wouldn’t do to deter her from a good effort. Maybe they should be playing basketball instead. She placed a hand on her hip, and made a gesture with her hand as she explained too. “Don’t worry. We got the next one. Any part of your hand and arm is fine.” She offered as well. It was difficult to learn a new skill for any person. Even Cissnei did her best not to fail a task in front of certain people, such as Tseng.
[break][break] Celes was intelligent as she was determined. Cissnei felt she would learn quickly.
[break][break] Cissnei resumed her attentive stance again and the volleyball sailed over her head. She turned to watch where it would go and Celes had already moved forward toward it. The blond was quick and nearly effortless, but her aim was a little off since the positions were new to her. Cissnei’s lithe frame lunged forward with grace, sand kicking up behind her. She put her wrists up and angled her arms. The ball bit into the soft flesh then bounced back up into the air.
[break][break] It was just enough to sail over the net. The volunteer instructors were unable to rush forward to meet the ball and it landed squarely in their court. Cissnei heaved a sigh before returning a wink to Celes. “Not a bad team.” She encouraged her. The instructors were going easy on them for learning purposes.
[break][break] There were a few back and forth exchanges to get used to the ball and how to properly move it. The instructors went over the finer details of the rules. That one must win by two points. There could only be three contacts with the ball max in order to get it over the net. The same person could not come in contact with the ball twice in a row. And finally, players could not assist the movement of their partners.
[break][break] When practice came to an end, Cissnei turned to Celes. “We have some time before the competition. Let’s take a break for a little bit. I need to go back to my chair to collect something before we start. Do you need anything to prepare?” Cissnei tilted her head a little, before turning to walk down the beach side to collect some supplies.

Celes no why is this sad lol
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
Cissnei dodged towards the ball, readying herself. Celes felt her breath catch. Then the ball made contact. It sailed through the air, over the net, and-
”Yes!” Celes jumped up, her hand in the air as she shrieked. The ball landed with a thump into the sand, and they’d scored a point. She’d done it. They’d done it. Maybe she wasn’t so hopeless after all.
Cissnei turned to wink at her. ”Not a bad team,” she said, and Celes nodded emphatically.
”Right.” Was she smiling? She was definitely smiling. Not just smiling, but having fun. She guessed this was what that felt like.
They hit it back and forth a few more times, and despite a few mishaps, they didn’t do too badly. Celes learned how to start the ball off for herself (miserably at first, but she found it wasn’t so hard as hitting it back) and she learned the rules as she went. After a few embarrassing mistakes, she thought she had the rules down well enough. She at least knew well enough not to catch it.
As they finished, Cissnei came over to talk. ”Let’s take a break for a little bit,” she said. ”Do you need anything to prepare?”
”Oh. Um…” She thought for a moment. Did she need anything? She didn’t think so. ”I guess just some water,” she answered, and she wasn’t wrong. The day was hot and muggy. Who wouldn’t?
As Cissnei left, she felt better than she had in a while and certainly better than she had since she’d come here. She still didn’t know why Cissnei bothered to talk to her. The detective was cool and confident and seemed like she could have picked any company she wanted, and Celes was about as far away from that as she could get. She could be cool. She could be confident. But only if she really didn’t care what anyone thought, and that usually only happened on the battlefield.
She’d opened up a lot since The Returners. She didn’t know what she was doing exactly, but she wanted to try. Since she’d left the military, she’d realized that she was terribly unprepared for a life outside it. Maybe that shouldn’t have bothered her so much, but…
She wanted to be better. She wanted to move on. She wanted to be happy.
”Are you using that?”
”Hm?” Celes looked up to find the competition looking at her. They were the same tanned, flat stomached, gleaming haired players that she’d seen in the line. Celes frowned at them. ”Using what?”
”The court. Are you still using it?”
”Oh.” Celes looked down to find that she was indeed still standing smack in the middle of the practice court. ”Sorry. No. You can…” She trailed off awkwardly, and rather than finish, walked flat-footed out of bounds. The rival teams took the ball and started to play without looking at her again. She watched them.
They were good, she thought. Really good, but she guessed that she’d already expected she’d lose. She’d never played before, after all, and these people had lived here all their lives. She watched them move expertly into place, saw them angle their arms just so, saw them tap it into a perfect position and then jump, smacking it across the net. She saw a black-haired girl with a ponytail skid across the sand, hitting it just in time to keep it from touching the ground. The ball was tossed back into play. And still, Celes watched.
These people were nothing like her. While she’d had her arms full of needles, they’d been playing with sand at the beach. While she’d built callouses over her bleeding hands, they’d fretted over their hair and budding acne. Now they’d grown into the kind of people that could toss a ball around with friends and look good doing it. And Celes…
No, she wouldn’t think like that. Maybe she’d had a late start, but she could learn. She had to learn now that there was no war or empire or anything else. It was awkward. It was painful, but she had to try. So she watched, arms crossed uncomfortably, and studied the kind of people that she wished she could be.
[attr="class","crashLyrics"]Walking on Sunshine[break]And don't it feel good
[attr="class","crashBody"] Celes exploded in excitement and it seemed she had finally figured out how to enjoy herself. Cissnei watched as Celes pushed past some of the difficulties of learning. It must be hard when you are typically the teacher. But, they endured and were able to figure out the rules and proper methods to maneuver the ball. [break][break]
Her volleyball partner only asked for water. “Water it is.” Cissnei nodded her acknowledgement, then turned to acquire water and a little extra something. If she was going to play, then nothing in the rules said she couldn’t use spells or materia. These were simply extensions meant to be used. She went back to her chair and pulled out her gloves embedded with materia. She pulled them on snuggly with quick, short tugs. [break][break] She noticed the original guy who had his drink spilt was not around attending his cooler. She went up to it and took out two bottled waters. That will show him to be impolite to two ladies. So kind of him to be so giving. [break][break] Cissnei returned to Celes. She seemed to have this thousand yard stare as she watched the people play. Was she okay? The redhead crunched the sand beneath her feet to announce her presence before standing next to her. She passed the bottle of water to her as she watched the people play. Cissnei gave a soft whistle, a fist on her hip. “They’re not bad huh?” She moved to open her bottle, “But don’t worry about it. We all start somewhere, yes? Some later than others.” She tilted her head back to drink some of the water. [break][break] “I am sure they’ll start soon. So we should come up with a team cheer before that happens. Cissnei stuck her hand out between them, palm down. “Stick your hand in too.” It seemed like Celes had not done this before. Cissnei then mulled over what to say. “Ah… the cheer part. How about, ‘Bump, set, hit, spike / That's the way we like to fight!’” [break][break] And then Cissnei raised her hand up with a smile and ‘hoorah’.

I'M SO SORRY ABOUT THIS BEING LATE
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
Celes looked up as Cissnei came back. She handed her a bottle of water true to her word. Celes took it and smiled sheepishly. ”Thanks.” She opened it and drank. In the tropical heat, it was life saving. ”They’re great,” Celes said. ”But I don’t know much about starting.”
It seemed like an odd thing to say from the outside. Did she somehow know what Celes had been thinking? She couldn’t have. It’s not like they really knew each other.
”A team... cheer?” Celes blinked at her. Was Cissnei serious? Well, she certainly seemed to be as she stuck out her hand and looked at her expectantly. ”Er. Okay.” Celes shuffled forward, not entirely sure what to do. What did cheering actually...do? And how was someone supposed to do it? After a moment, Celes mimicked her, sticking her hand out too.
Was she doing it right?
Cissnei looked thoughtful. ”Ah. The cheer part. How about, ’Bump, set, hit, spike. That’s the way we like to fight!’
Celes stared as Cissnei thrust her hand in the hair with a shout. Had she come up with that on the spot? Was this something that people just did?
”Er. Right! That!” Celes put her hand up too. She felt herself blush. ”That sounds fun,” she said. ”Let’s, um. Do that!” Fight, that was. She could fight.
She heard a whistle in the distance and stood at attention as she saw the organizers walking in a loose formation towards the court. They held their clipboards and read them off, listing the teams. There were a lot of them, but less than she’d thought. This probably wouldn’t take that long at least -- particularly not if they completely bombed the first round.
Which was likely. Celes took a long drink of her water.
According to the brackets, they were going second. Celes followed where she was directed and watched as the first teams lined up across from each other. They talked over their strategy, laughing.
”You know. This really is kind of fun.” Celes sat down, settling into the sand with her knees pulled up. ”I don’t know if you’ve guessed, but I’ve never really had…girl time before.” Wasn’t that what she’d called it? ”I grew up in the imperial army. Now I’m here. It’s a little hard to get used to.”
