Cissnei leans back along the bar, her elbows lining along the wood. Ochre eyes watched the people as they seemed to pour in for the event. She did not fit in here. All these people seemed comfortable and laughing as they searched for love. But what about her? Was the devil capable of love? The better question, she decided, was where did she fit into this world? Her participation in this event was her attempt to figure that out. Or perhaps it was simply to find someone interesting to learn about. After all, connections with people meant connections to resources.
She felt a tap on her shoulder and a slip was slid across the bar towards her. She looked down near her elbow, before turning on her stool and picking up the slip. It seemed a selection was made for her. She gave the bartender a slight smile and a nod for his hard work. The slip stated that she was assigned to table five. She assumed that whoever was chosen as her partner would be there.
She stood up and ran her hands down her suit to smooth it. Gingerly fingers came up to straighten her tie. Well, time to meet the lucky person. She squeezed through the crowd and found the small table, sparsely decorated with a rose and the number tag. It seemed like there would be nothing to do but keep each other company. The thought gave her a smile. Sometimes there was comfort in talking to strangers. One never knew what was going to happen.
She pulled her chair back and took her seat. She folded her hands in her lap as she waited.
Dating. It was a strange thing. He'd done it before, gone through the whole courtly romance several times in his long, long existence. Usually there was some sort of ulterior motive to it; the emperor of whatever imperially inclined nation he was fostering at the moment needed to have an heir. The last time he'd gone on a genuine date was... ah, no one would ever be Persephone, and the mere thought of her brought a smile to his lips, a pang to his heart and reminded him of better days. His best friend and greatest love, no one would ever be her, no matter how many ages passed.
But, he could enjoy himself, at least. He'd changed his appearance. Really, just made his actual look shorter so the physique of the Amaurotine didn't stand out. The appearance of Solus zos Galvus had no meaning here, though he may still use it, but he had a chance to actually look as he truly did, as Hades. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the Warrior of Light was sitting just a few tables away and he didn't want to deal with that reunion, no ma'am, it was entirely of his own choosing. Wasn't that man married, anyway? He was, and his wife was here too!
What was with those two? At least he had the sight of the Oracle of Light embarrassing herself.
Golden eyes examined his chosen date. Anyone would simply see it as him checking out the one he'd been paired up with, and to an extent, they would be right. But Hades wasn't looking at her, her physical appearance, but peering beyond, looking at her soul, the power that comprised her being. Ah, yes, that gave him a general idea of her, then. Every soul had a unique color, but they tended towards certain shades. It'd been a while since he tried the act of wooing that didn't have "and I have an entire empire that comes with the package" attached, may as well see if he still had it.
He took a glass, pouring himself some wine as he ran a finger along the rim, sounding a soft note from the glass with the motion. "And so my date is kissed by fire, with a personality to match." He gave a small smile, face framed by long silver locks. He wasn't omniscient, it wasn't like he knew how many silver-haired men she'd been dealing with lately! "Would the lady of the night introduce herself?" He was trying, at least.
After a bit of waiting Cissnei leaned an elbow along the table. Her cheek followed along the back of her fingers as she looked out the window. There was a crowd of people tonight mostly laughed and trilled in the crisp night air as they cavorted with a partner. The live band played lively music for them to dance to in the moonlight. It was an engagement of chivalrous romance for them.
A soft ring chimed through the air. Her attention was drawn from the window to look to the source, a crystal glass. Ochre eyes traced the finger along its rim up the arm to meet his golden gaze. She felt a shiver down her spine. It was a rare response indeed. It was not typical someone initiated conversation with her and he seemed to exude a confidence that she had yet to see in others. Maybe he had some prestige? Cissnei was very much interested in what was to come.
She softened her expression and returned a smile. “Careful. If you play with fire, prepare to be burned. …Or so they say.” She responded with a lilt in her voice. “And it seems my date has a silver-tongue to match his appearance.” She stood from her seat and gave a slight bow in greeting. A hand crossed over her chest as she did so, in a polite gesture over her heart. A lady? That was a new one to be called, she chuckled mentally to herself. “She would introduce herself.” She straightened up. “Cissnei, at your service.” Oh dear. She needed to talk about herself. She was not very well versed in that. “I run an investigation agency in Sonora. I am simply passing through and figured I would use the event to meet some people.” She was biding her time really. The investigation agency was really a front until she found a worthy person to provide her services to.
She downplayed her work, “Ah. But that is not as important as the gentleman in front of me. To whom do I owe the pleasure of speaking to?” She extended her hand for a handshake.

Confidence. Yes, that described him well. That air that felt no fear nor worried about a failure. Though in truth, what was there to lose? His finger continued to create that soft chime. But he enjoyed that she seemed to know how to play the game right back at him. His thoughts trailed for a moment to his white hair. It'd been a while since anyone had commented on it. But alas, that was not important. "Solus, will do. Alas, I cannot claim to such a fascinating profession. I'm just a man of no consequence here." Here, in this world. As far as he called it, he wasn't lying.
Although an investigation agency was definitely an interesting profession. Sorting lies from truth. Oh, during his time as Emperor, he'd seen a rise in, what was it, the Noir genre? And, well, it fit what he was seeing of her, so he had no reason not to believe it. "A world of back alley dealings, shady clientele, mysterious circumstances, raw desire and emotion, and myriad characters all playing their own role in the Reaper's Game. That sounds like quite the envious life." At least it couldn't be boring. But it was definitely something that fit the woman before him. She definitely was the type to hide truth behind lies and play her own role in the aforementioned game of shadows.
The assortment of colors and hues was apparent to him. Hues of every spectrum. For many, it may be a maddening cacophony. But for Hades, it was a world he'd always known. So many colors and personalities gathered in a single room. "What, then, do you think of our establishment? Surely someone here would catch your private eye." He finally took a sip from his glass and lowered it, as the chime changed. One leg crossed over the other.
“Very well, Solus. It is a pleasure to meet you.” She retook her own seat now that introductions were completed. She took in his words of ‘man of no consequence’. It could only mean two things. He was either penniless and flying by the seat of his pants, or he was trying to hide his actual stature. Cissnei wondered if she could decide which it was by the end of the night.
“It is not always so glamorous.” Her face broke into a grin and shook her head. She has had to do some dirty stuff, but she’s also had to do some boring things. Stakeouts consisted of only waiting. Research could bore your eyes out. “Talking about the darker aspects and finding those part envious is an interesting way to put it though.” Oh, he was certainly trying to hide his actual stature. She crossed her arms along the table and leaned forward slightly. Her hair falling over her shoulders. “Are you interested in such things?”
She studied him for a moment more. “Someone already has.” She replied to his inquiry if someone caught her eye. Her own ochre ones never left his gold ones as she said it. There was no reason to look elsewhere for now. “Unless you would have me search for someone for you?” She raised a brow. “I doubt there are many of interest here. Many are your average joe simply looking for romance.”
One of the attendants brought her a glass of wine. She thanked him before taking a sip. “The establishment is certainly gaudy but serves its purpose of bringing people together.” She set her own glass down with a clink. “I feel you perceive things in a different perspective than me, Solus. What do you see?” She turned her eyes to look out over the rest of the people now. “And what are you seeking tonight?”
Well, she was definitely right about him hiding who he really was. After all, even in his world, he spent the majority of his time doing just that. Very few knew the man behind all the masks. Few knew that Emperor Solus zos Galvus was an Ascian from those most ancient of days. But, well, there were marks of his time as the emperor that he genuinely enjoyed. "It makes for a lovely diversion. Though I'm not sure one would call such a desire interesting. Who doesn't yearn for the life of excitement, when what they have is currently a leisurely view of life?" Of course, he'd had plenty of excitement to last him forever. While the restoration of his world and people would end his despair, and he would do anything to see Persephone again, in truth, if he had succeeded and returned Amaurot from the grave, he'd likely have kicked that off by sleeping.
A lot.
He quirked his brow as the ringing of the glass stopped. Oh, she was definitely good at this, wasn't she? Part of him wondered if in her work, she had ever played the role of seductress. "Ah, careful careful." He let out a low chuckle. He had to give her credit, she'd managed to get in a good hit there. On top of all this, she also went and added a guilt trip? Dangerously good, Cissnei. "But that is fair, I just enjoy observing others." Yes, this was supposed to be a blind date. People coming together to look for love in what probably wasn't the right place. The woman with Alex and that one man with Lycoris were in for a rude awakening if they thought it would go anywhere. It was easy to forget that when you weren't in it to find love. How clumsy of him, no?
She asked a shrewd question about his perception, and it was one he had no hope in denying. His perception in his world led him to being called many things, visionary often the most common amongst them. On the surface, one would imagine it was just the vibrancy of souls, to see their hues swirling about the forms they inhabited, and this would be true, that did play a role. But it was also perception tempered by wisdom and age. Having seen so many of a type that one came to recognize the subtle body language, the way they talked, the way they moved, common trends between the many that identified who and what they were.
So he decided to tell the truth. Besides, it wasn't like she'd believe him, anyway. "I see beyond the surface and into one's soul." It was a gambit, but one that had paid off in the past; refuge in audacity, was it? A small smirk graces his lips as he leaned back into his chair, crossing one leg over the other as he folded his hands in his lap. "As for what I seek, I seek simple entertainment. As I said, I enjoy observing others, and even in their most mundane ways, there is sometimes something to be found." Even if sometimes that was just aggravating the natives, as the Warriors of Light had so keenly demonstrated to him.
But no, he would not lie. He was not here for love. He was simply here for a good time. "And what of you, Lady Cissnei?" Amber eyes fixated on her. "All your own questions could apply to you, as well. You don't strike me as the type to simply be looking for romance here." Indeed, there was something else going on here. He leaned forward, lacing his fingers together as he gave her a knowing glint. "You too, see the world in a different light, from a different perspective, no?" She'd tipped enough that he was able to make that assumption. At least, he was certain that she looked at life from a much different angle than he did.
She listened to him carefully. His words were too eloquent and carefully chosen to be of someone of no importance. She felt she should take the same level of care as she would the executives of Shinra. Maybe even more. “No new horror can be more terrible than the daily torture of the commonplace. Or so they say.” She knew what it was like to be restless when there was nothing to do. The ex-Turk even mundane tasks seemed less welcomed lately. “I cannot say you are wrong. Everyone needs a little fun now and then.” The more dangerous the better.
She smiled and her eyes dropped to look at her glass. As she did so, she loosened the knot in her tie at the base of her neck. He was certainly in good humor and flattering. It was good company, better than what she was used to. Better than those who were polite to her, but did not hide their distrust. Better than the bores she had to get rough with too. A conversation with an edge was certainly a fun change of pace.
Her ochre eyes studied his golden ones for a moment. She had not come across such a color before. Though she was used to seeing platinum-white hair, it was usually accompanied by a blue glow. Instead, his eyes seemed older than what his appearance suggeted. She decided to play along with his words. Perhaps most girls would giggle and think he was being poetic. Perhaps they would even ask them to look into her soul. Cissnei knew exactly what her soul looked like. The devil didn’t need someone to tell her about her soul. “That’s quite a skill you have. How does one go about seeing into another’s soul?” Certainly there had to be a trick to it. “I imagine that it must be interesting to see the different types of souls.”
He spoke of people watching on a much different level. Interesting. “People watching? Everyone does have a story. Whether the truth of their story come to light is always the game.” She hummed softly, leaning a little forward as she listened. Her fingers interlaced as she set her palms down on the table. “Well then, you came to right place. What do you consider simple entertainment, I wonder?” Music? Dance? Or simply conversation?
Her eyes widened a little as she looked at him with a bit of curiousity. And so he wanted to know about her too? And calling her Lady to boot. That was a term she rarely heard associated with herself. When he spoke of her not being the type to simply be looking for romance here, she only gave a coy smile and took a sip of her wine. “I am but a humble woman here. Or that is what i would say, but you’ve ready seen into my soul.” She jested lightly, her smile on her face. “I am looking for someone.” Not wholly the truth. It was more than one person. “I figured if I go to group events maybe I will find this person. If not, then I leave an impression of myself for them to find me.” Vague, but to the point. She wished not to be in power, but to help this person gain power. The others would help this person succeed. But the way she spoke, she could simply be talking about a lover.
She met his eyes gain and smile touching her lips. She gave a soft shrug. “Don’t we all see the world in a different perspective? Isn’t that what makes things interesting. We are all shaped by the day we are born from our life experiences. It is from these experiences we color our perspectives. Even as a person speaks their truth, the whole story is never told by one person alone.” One always needed all sides of the story to get the most clear picture.
An understandable feeling, one could imagine. Especially when it was someone who paid your salary. But, alas, Hades was in no such position. Nor was he on the opposite end. Perhaps that's why he seemed a tad more trustworthy? He simply had no reason not to hide all the details, save for the fact he simply didn't wish them known. Would she have found him more attractive if he were thirty feel tall as he was supposed to be? Likely not. Women tended to like a tall man, but there were limits! Six, maybe seven feet, but thirty? Goodness, at that point she just seems more like a sassy, lost child than anything.
He noticed her unbuttoning part of her shirt and... didn't react. Well, he didn't react in a flustered manner like many others may have. He would be a tough one to crack. "Feeling a bit warm, are we?" His finger rings around the glass, creating that soft humming chime. He doubted it would cause a distraction, everyone else was involved in their own affairs and perhaps the din of the chatter would be enough to drown out the sound. Still it was fun to see that she was playing along, too. "It's something one is born with, and must nurture through years of study and talent. Animancy is truly a world like no other." He wondered how far he could go simply telling her the truth.
She was looking for someone, so then perhaps there was already someone else in her life? How interesting. It wasn't that odd, considering there was a married couple seeing other people right now. "Ah, am I to be an intermediary should I find this person? No matter, I don't mind that. As I said, I love to observe, and even with small interactions like that, I am bound to learn." And he simply continued to let her talk as his amber eyes took in her words. She didn't mean anything by it, surely, but a painful reminder was a painful reminder, as his gaze narrowed somewhat into a more somber expression, even if only for a moment.
But he carries on. "Indeed. Our circumstances mold us, influence us, direct us. Even those who choose their own path must at times act in accordance to circumstances outside their control." The End of Days, the sacrifice of their people, the sundering of their world. He'd done all he could in such horrid circumstances, and yet it wasn't enough. Many considered the Ascians simple darkness mongering demons, and while he could take joy in simple entertainment, in the end, Hades only ever wanted two things.
His loved ones back, and to simply go home.
So he gave her a soft smile. "Do be wary. In this world, the rules of old no longer apply. When you find this person, they will almost certainly not be the same. Pray that they are better than they were when last you saw them."
While Solus was quite fetching, Cissnei did not swoon by appearances alone. It was the mind of the person that lured her to them. Though to see someone at thirty feet would be quite the surprise, it would most certainly be an intriguing sight to experience. In this moment, she was enjoying his level of conversation with her very much.
She raised a brow at him as he asked her if she was warm. She gave a small smirk and ochre eyes lowered to watch as a finger chimed his glass. Quite a habit he had. She wondered if it meant something or was simply a nervous habit. “I was merely getting comfortable in your company.” The loosening of the tie was a sign of relaxing with business partners. Or in this case, with her conversation partner.
Animancy. What an interesting term. “I’m afraid I haven’t heard this term before.” She raised her glass and took a sip of the wine from it, as she tried to absorb it into her vocabulary. Was it something she needed to investigate? She wondered if the ability was was similar to Cetra powers. Though she did not recall them seeing one’s soul, they did have abilities to be able communicate with spirits and manipulate the lifestream to their whim. It was a talent they were born with and nurtured as well. Could he be what was called a Cetra? Or was she just projecting her knowledge, and there was a different explanation entirely? She was certainly interested in finding out. “I wish I could understand your world a little more.” She said softly, lowering her glass and looking back up at him. “It sounds less dull than mine.” She gave him a soft smile. “And what is involved in this nurturing of talent? Are there specific exercises?”
She realized her mistake at making it sound like she had a lover. That wouldn’t do at a blind date. Cissnei was most certainly single and if she ever did take interest in a person…Well she most certainly wouldn’t let them think her disloyal or eyeing others. She would make sure they knew he or she was royalty in Cissnei’s life. She decided to correct her mistake, “An intermediary?” She hummed thoughtfully. “If you do see them, it would be obvious they are associated with me. We all wear the same suit as a uniform.” She looked away a little shyly, feigning hesitance. “They were my comrades and the only family I had.” She let her mask slip just a little. She very much wanted them back in her life. They had been separated for so long. After their fight with Zirconiade, it had been years since they were allowed to contact each other. She was not sure if some of them were even alive after witnessing Meteor begin its collision with the planet.
“It would mean the world to me to see them again.” She did not mention the President in this case. She was still unsure the best way to handle him. She had not met him in person after Tseng held him hostage against his father. Nor was she particularly thrilled with him causing trouble for the Turks. But in the end…it was by his own pen that he saved the lives of her Turk family. He helped them escape prosecution from the executives, and for that she owed him.
She noticed his mood dipped at her words, even if it was hardly noticeable. Cissnei had learned much in the business world to read even the most micro of expressions. It was particularly useful on certain executive members. However, it seemed inappropriate to let his warning go just yet. “You are kind to warn me. I have taken notice the rules are changed. But my comrades and I have always been resilient and adapt to change. If anything, they will learn and grow from the trials. I am sure.” She certainly hoped.
She reached out for his hand that chimed the glass, stilling his hand. Her palm placed along the side of his hand as she looked up into his eyes. Sometimes contact was the best comfort, no matter how small. “It sounds you have much experience in people and perhaps search for something similar?” She paused for a moment. “If you’ll be intermediary for me, even passively, I will return the favor. Just name it when you’re ready.” Cissnei always repaid her debts.
“Come now. Would you dance with me?” Perhaps it was best if they did not drop into a somber mood. Not on such a night as this. “Sometimes its better to join in than merely observe.” She teased lightly.
