Final Fantasy Adventu is a roleplaying forum inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Images on the site are edited by KUPO of FF:A with all source material belonging to their respective artists (i.e. Square Enix, Pixiv Fantasia, etc). The board lyrics are from the Final Fantasy song "Otherworld" composed by Nobuo Uematsu and arranged by The Black Mages II.
The current skin was made by Pharaoh Leap of Pixel Perfect. Outside of that, individual posts and characters belong to their creators, and we claim no ownership to what which is not ours. Thank you for stopping by.
Truthfully, Genesis wasn’t certain if he would have participated in this little game or not had the bartender not been so attractive. The man’s soothing voice combined with the soft glow of the candles had made his blood feel as pleasantly warm as the wine that he’d been sipping, so he’d eventually agreed to fill out the heart-shaped slip of paper that the man had passed over. It was an amusing idea, after all. Why not spend the night in the company of a stranger? He’d be no worse for wear if his assigned blind date was a disappointment. He had no qualms with just getting up and leaving them—or even with setting the entire place on fire if the date went badly enough. Why not? No one knew him in this world.
Eventually the bartender slid a piece of paper back to him with a low grin, and Genesis eyed the label on it with pursed lips.
Table 6.
“The wind sails over the water’s surface, quietly but surely,” he murmured to himself before looking up to meet the bartender’s eyes. “I’ll need a full bottle of that red wine. And two glasses.” Buying someone a drink usually made a good first impression, and while Genesis didn’t know their alcohol preference yet, he wasn’t sure that he’d trust them anyway if they turned up their nose at wine. His date could be the most attractive man in the world, but it wouldn’t matter much if he had poor taste.
With an uncorked bottle and two long-stemmed glasses in hand, Genesis stepped down the aisles towards the booth labelled with a ‘six’ in looped cursive writing. The bar was beginning to be more crowded than he would have expected, and he was forced to step around other couples who were settling down to meet each other. Perhaps this was a popular event around this time of year? Maybe he should have dragged Sephiroth along. That would have made for a laugh at any rate.
Finding the right table, Genesis slid all the way in on one side of the booth, assuming a casual position with one ankle resting on his knee and his arm draped over the back of the seat. He left the other wine glass next to the softly burning candle and the vase filled with a single rose in the center of the table. Genesis didn’t want to assume where they wanted to sit after all. They would most likely sit opposite of him, but he wasn’t going to complain if they wanted to slide in right next to him.
Pouring himself a glass, Genesis raised the blood-red wine to his lips and settled in to wait for his assigned partner.
In a bad mood, pass out, wake up alone Just to do it all over again Looking for you
Mateus' mood was growing darker and darker by the moment. The bar was beginning to fill and his stool had been bumped into more than once and this last time he had come dangerously close to spilling his wine on his clothes. He wrinkled his nose in disgust as the two canoodling patrons next to him took their flirtatious nose rubbing into a garish display of what must have been their first kiss ever. Mateus would have thrown his wine on them much like throwing water on two tussling dogs, but the wine was the only thing making this ordeal palatable.
Mateus' finished off the bottle watching as the last droplets dripped into the glass, every bit counted tonight. He really couldn't understand the logic behind this little public relations job. Did X really want this sort of riff raff to join the Children? Perhaps they might do well as servants or manual laboreres, but wasn't he specifically chosen to woo the rich and influential. Perhaps he had accepted the invitation as an excuse to get out of Torensten for a while. Lior, the benevolent warrior as always, was out completing errands for commoners despite Mateus being vehemently against the idea. The Warrior had honor and other fanciful fairy tale notions of kindness that Mateus simply tried to not role his eyes at.
He was pulled from his thoughts as a paper was slid in front of him. "6" the number felt like it was mocking him in it's trying too hard to be calligraphy script. He looked at the bartender wondering what he would look like in chains at the foot of a bed, when the garish session next to him groped his leg by mistake. Mateus let out a grunt of disgust as she flicked the groping fingers away, but the woman didn't even seem to notice. Anyone or anything would be a better candidate than this disgusting couple. Mateus made his way through the throngs of people who he couldn't believe came to a night of love looking the way did.
Mateus did a double take as he looked at who was already sat at the table. "Hmm," he noted giving the man a once over before sitting down in the booth sweeping his purple gown out from under his feet. "And here I was thinking I was the only one of any class in this swine's pen." Mateus poured the wine without asking swirling it in the glass gazing between it and the man. "At least I hope so. Did they send you too, or are you looking for base carnal pleasure at the expense of your dignity?" He smirked raising his glass for a toast, "Or perhaps your heart is crying out in a pitiful display for another? But lo, the night is young and topic I've started heavy. Let us roll our die in this game of romance. I'll play along for the night."
As Genesis sipped his wine while waiting for his partner to finally show up, he caught a glimpse of a flowing, purple dress out of the corner of his eye. Glancing up, he met the eyes of an attractive man who was dressed to draw every eye in the bar towards him, and Genesis wasn’t able to contain his laugh as the man slid into the booth across from him.
“Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess,” he quoted with a smirk as he raised his glass towards the former emperor that he’d met in the Torensten underground. “Perhaps there’s something to this dating game, after all.” Mateus seemed equally pleased to be paired with him as he paid Genesis an indirect compliment, though he was uncertain as to why the man had wanted to participate at all when he complained that the bar was a swine’s pen. However, that mystery was quickly cleared up when he implied that X or someone under her had sent him along for recruitment purposes.
“Oh, I don’t find anything wrong with base carnal pleasure. At least when it suits me.” He shot the man a slight wink over his glass as Mateus poured himself a cup of wine without asking. Genesis felt a slight prickle of irritation at the lack of thanks for the drink, but he hadn’t really expected any from what he knew of the man. He wouldn’t hold his breath in waiting.
“Am I to assume that means you accepted her offer though?” At the end of their dinner together with X, Mateus had claimed that he still needed time to think over whether or not he wanted to join up with them, so he was pleased to hear that the haughty man had come around. He rather liked confident men. “Not the best topic of conversation in a crowded area perhaps, but it is good to know that we’re working together.”
He let the topic drop after that--Talking about the Torensten underground was best suited for when they were in private, and anyway, he was distracted by Mateus’ next question.
“Crying out for another? Hardly,” he scoffed at the idea, though a night in the company of another did sound appealing. Sephiroth was off travelling, and he didn’t relish the thought of returning to their darkened apartment alone. For some reason, the thought made him wonder what Kuja or Bartz were doing right now.
Regardless, he was grateful when Mateus changed the mood back to a flirtatious one. “Only the night?” He asked with a laugh. “Well, I’ll drink to that, at any rate.” As he refilled his glass with the bottle that sat between them, it occurred to him that he hadn’t thought the man across from was single. He had implied as much, at any rate.
“Is that man you were living with here too? I remember you saying something like that.” It was best to be direct with these sorts of things. Not that Genesis minded keeping a taken man company per se, but he preferred to know what he was stepping into.
