II. PERSONA
At first glance, Ignis seems a friendly, albeit uptight young man. Usually observing situations with a neutral viewpoint, Iggy is sometimes a man of few words, asking only for the type of information that he would find handy for the given situation. He is friendly to strangers, though stiff if he is unsure of their intentions. A very respectable man, one would find it difficult to have a bad experience with Ignis in everyday situations.
Having been raised to care for and protect the future King, Ignis has a serious, but nurturing spirit. He tends to stick close to his objectives, whatever they may be at the time, and remains fiercely loyal to his friends. If you manage to infiltrate his tight, inner circle, you would find yourself fretted, tutted, and cared for to an almost mothering (or smothering) point. Iggy cares deeply for the well being of his friends, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. He encourages healthy eating habits and exercise, as well as stimulation for the mind. He strongly insists on making sure his friends are well taken care of, as it was a part of his training growing up.
And, well, he truly loves taking care of others. Though, you’d be hard pressed to get him to admit such a fact.
Typically stoic and serious, Ignis approaches most all situations with a level head and logical reasoning. He is not one to jump the gun or fight first and ask questions later. He would rather talk and gain as much of an understanding of a situation as possible, and form as perfect of a plan as possible. Unfortunately for others, he tends to do this with many aspects of his life, not just battles and other high tension moments. Iggy prefers to be prepared no matter what the situation -- whether its sneaking into a heavily guarded base, or making a trip to the grocery store.
Perfectionist, is what Ignis would call himself, and all others that know him would agree. It’s not just developing the perfect plan for the day, but perfecting everything one does. From the perfect cup of coffee, to the perfect way to slice vegetables, to the perfect attack. Iggy can find himself getting quite worked up and stressed when things don’t go his way, however, his frustration is typically short lived. Though, if you purposely destroy one of his well concocted plans, prepare for him to be quite short with you, and ready to rub it in your face when something inevitably goes wrong.
While formal and respectful with others, Ignis has a hard time reading people in a more casual sense. At times, he tends to misunderstand jokes and take them seriously, when they’re not meant to be. Some types of slang also go over his head, due to his very formal upbringing. However, Iggy is not entirely dense to the occasional joke, and has impressive comedic timing when landing a particular sly or petty comeback. His humor tends to be dry and sarcastic, though always said with a straight face.
In any situation, one will find Ignis Scientia as the calm, voice of reason. Though he may be just as confused and riled up as his fellows, he will always be the one to remain the most calm, and try and keep things stable. Considering he is close to people of various temperaments, Iggy has had a lot of practice playing peacekeeper. It was also a part of his training for being a royal advisor; to remain the voice of reason and think logically, no matter who or what approached. Because of this, Iggy finds himself often calming others, even if it’s temporarily, with both logic and soothing reason.
However, that isn’t to say that he can’t also be reckless. When pushed to his absolute limit, Ignis will do whatever it takes to keep his promises and achieve important goals. If the lives of his friends are at stake, Iggy will do whatever it takes to save them -- even willing to give up his own life for Noctis, who he considers a brother and his true family. In these situations, Ignis acts brash and improvises all of his movements and situations, unafraid of the consequences.
Another of his strengths is his intellect. Ignis memorized everything he could about the landscape, the cities, the monsters, the usefulness of wild ingredients -- and much, much more back in his home world. This studious personality trait is something that sticks with him always, and he can often be found asking the locals about everything, from animals to monsters to wild forage to events, and much, much more. Though he can no longer see, Iggy still demands to have every detail, every speck of information about everything around him. A part of it is a natural curiosity, but the overwhelming majority of his reasoning is that there is no such thing as “useless information”.
Though Ignis is prideful and a stickler for perfection in his planning, the young man is overwhelmingly a positive influence to have around any group. With his nurturing nature, wealth of knowledge, and fierce loyalty, he would be a true friend to anyone that showed him such kindness. Typically stoic and serious, when comfortable, he’s happy to make the occasional dry joke or terrible pun, with a wry smile on his face as everyone around him groans apathetically.
A hardworking perfectionist, and ever loyal to the very end.

III. HISTORY
Date: xx/xx
Today, I formally met Prince Noctis. He is younger than me, but not by much. The King told me to stand by Prince Noctis, and to be his brother and guide him! I don’t know exactly what that means yet, but Father says my training as aReRiRetainer for the Prince will help me understand.
Prince Noctis is very nice. I think we will be good friends.
Date xx/xx
I have been spending a lot of time with Prince Noctis recently. He is very active and likes to play a lot. He also likes to speak out of the Citadel when we aren’t supposed to. Tonight we got caught, and I told Father that it was all my fault. He wasn’t very happy, and I think I will have to make it up to him.
Date xx/xx
Noctis is not adapting well to more school work. I am helping to tutor him best I can, but sometimes he chooses not to listen well. I think he is distracted, because the King is more busy as of late. However, I will continue to try and make sure he focuses on his studies. They’ll be important when he is King someday.
Date xx/xx
I have not had time to write much recently, due to my busy schedule. On top of my own studies, I am now training with the Glaives, attending Council meetings, and helping Noct with his studies. The curiosity with cooking I discovered some years ago has blossomed into somewhat of a hobby. It is frustrating, being unable to perfectly recreate the dessert that Noct had in Tenebrae when we were younger.
Date xx/xx
Gladiolus Amicitia is an interesting fellow, and more astute than I gave him credit for. He is destined to become the Prince’s Shield, and from what I have observed, I believe he will be the right choice for the job. Today, he helped clear some of the fog from my mind, so that I could understand Noct’s recent mood. It’s good to have second opinions.
Date xx/xx
I beat Gladio in a sparring match. I will have to be on guard, as I suspect retaliation will be in order.
Date xx/xx
A new young fellow has come into Noct’s life. Prompto, a boy closer to Noct’s age than Gladiolus and myself, who carries himself with a very chipper attitude. His sunshine disposition next to Noct’s unintentional gloominess warms my heart. He’s a tad hyper for my tastes, but he seems to be getting Noct to be more social, which is a plus.
Date xx/xx
Today, I followed up with the mechanics who are servicing the Regalia. It appears it will be ready in time for our departure. There is much to do, and not much time to do it. I hope Prompto and Gladio have made their preparations, it will certainly take all three of us to prepare Noct for his journey.
Reminders: Call the garage about the car in the AM.
Date xx/xx
Tonight is our last night in Insomnia before the trip begins. Sadly, we were unable to meet up with the King beforehand -- some unexpected business has come up, I believe. I have been at Noct’s apartment for only five minutes, but I fear now may be my only time to write anything down. Tonight, I wish to simply focus on the journey ahead.
Reminders: Triple check all bags are in the trunk. We don’t want a repeat of the great failed camping trip from last year.
Date xx/xx
This is not how I intended our journey to start, and needless to say, I am quite miffed.
We started our day with our farewells to the King. While Noct seems excited for the trip, perhaps a tad nervous, I believe it was a powerful moment for him, and for us all. The Regalia seemed to be running fine as we departed Insomnia, however …
Well, I’m currently writing this entry from the side of the immobile vehicle.
I’m not sure what is wrong with it; my understanding of vehicles like this is basic, at best. All attempts to contact anyone for help have gone unanswered. I’ve checked the map, and we’re close to a garage. Hopefully we can get this mess sorted quickly.
Noct and Prompto are quite upset about having to push the car. Thank goodness for Gladio.
Date xx/xx - Evening
The Regalia is being repaired by Cindy, the lead mechanic here at Hammerhead. While I find some of her mannerisms strange, she appears to be quite the expert. I am confident we will be back on the road in the morning.
The boys are too exhausted to move and have already gone to bed for the evening. Apologies Noct, I know this is not the start of the adventure that you wanted.
Reminders: Call that insufferable garage back in Insomnia and speak with management.
Supplies List: xx, xx, xx
Date xx/xx
We departed Hammerhead early, in order to make up for some lost time. This drive is quite the experience, however, and we have been stopping often to investigate interesting offerings, collect materials for the journey, and help strangers where we can.
We stopped at a rest area in Longwythe, and encountered Lady Lunafreya’s dog, Umbra. It’s good to see how excited Noct is for their reunion.
Galdin Quay is still quite some distance, so we’ve decided to camp for the night. Gladiolus is more than excited, and I suppose this gives me a chance to improve upon my campside cooking.
Reminders: Collect ingredients for that recipe Noct seemed to like in Hammerhead.
Supplies: xx, xx, xx
Date xx/xx
I believe I enjoyed the journey to Galdin Quay more than I have the environment here, so far. We’ve been informed that the ships to Altissa currently aren’t running. We obtained this information from a rather strange character; perhaps he’s simply a character? A reporter named Dino corroborated his story, however, but we’ve been informed there will be ships running in the morning.
The hotel is nice, I suppose, but everything is quite unaffordable. This is not the ideal location to purchase supplies.
Supplies List: xx, xx, xx
Date xx/xx
Inside is a clip taken from the newspaper, stating that Nifelheim’s attack on Insomnia claimed the lives of King Regis, Prince Noctis, and Lady Lunafreya.
We are headed back to Insomnia.
Date xx/xx
We could not attempt to get back into the city. The borders have all been closed by the imperial military. Cor Leonis has confirmed King Regis’ death, and left us a message at Hammerhead with instructions for our next move.
To say that things are tense would be an understatement. However, whatever happens, we will always remain by Noct’s side.
Date xx/xx
We met the Marshal at a Royal Tomb, and learned more of the truth of what befell Insomnia and King Regis. It is now Noct’s duty to collect the Royal Arms, scattered throughout the land. Lady Lunafreya escaped harm, thankfully, and is in possession of the Ring of Lucii.
This has been a trying day for Noct. He is holding up as best as I could hope, however, I’m hoping within the coming days, we can bring up his spirits best we can.
Tonight, I made one of his more favored dishes. It brought a small smile to his face, and that’s all I could ask for.
Date xx/xx
Today was spent traveling and battling monsters for bounty hunting quests. No matter the circumstances of the world, gil is still required for goods and services. We have spent the last few nights under the stars, and for the most part, away from civilization. It has been refreshing, and Noct seems to be relaxing, if only a little.
Supply List: xx/xx/xx
Date: xx/xx
I’ve nothing to report today. I wish I were joking, but Noct spent the entire day fishing.
Anyone unfamiliar with him may think this is a coping mechanism of his. Quite the contrary, he prides himself in his fishing skills. He simply wanted to fish the day away.
Unfortunately, we will have to put him back on task tomorrow.
Supply List: xx/xx/ I’ve lost count of the fish. It’s late.
Date xx/xx
With the Marshal’s help, we were able to defeat the imperial army’s Norduscean Blockade. It was no easy task, and I’m forever thankful for his help. We were able to proceed into the Duscae region, and made camp quite a ways away on our way toward Lestallum.
The goal is to meet up with Iris Amicitia, and proceed from there.
Reminders: We are low on curatives. And Ebony.
Supply List: xx/xx/xx
Date xx/xx
On our way to Lestallum, we attempted to visit the Disc of Cauthess, but it is guarded by the imperial army. However, the sight even from our distance, was quite interesting.
We have finally met up with Iris, Jared, and Talcott in Lestallum. We’ve received news that Lady Lunafreya was here recently, and that seems to have put Noct at ease for the time being. Everyone seems somewhat more relaxed for the moment, and I believe we’ll all enjoy sleeping in a bed for the night.
Addition: Noct has experienced a strange headache. I’ve given him some painkillers, but the timing is … strange.
Supply List: xx/xx/xx
Date: xx/xx
Iris took Noctis on a trip through the city, so I’ve taken this time to collect a few interesting things and restock our supplies. Lestallum is certainly a fascinating city.
Noct is still experiencing headaches. I’ve a feeling this goes deeper than anything I could attempt to handle on my own.
Date xx/xx
Following the legend Talcott told us, we were able to help Noct retrieve another royal arm. Though he is in a considerable amount of pain from these frequent headaches, we have decided to travel to the Disc of Cauthess and proceed however necessary into the crater.
Date xx/xx
Rushed for time.
Followed bizarre stranger Ardyn to the crater.
Fought the Astral, Titan. Noct has forged a covenant with it.
Ardyn is the chancellor of Niflheim empire. Saved us in the crater. Writing this on the transport.
Not sure what is coming.
Date xx/xx
Though we were spared a deadly fate in the crater, the man Ardyn did not turn us over to Niflheim as we feared. However, the Regalia is missing, and I fear it’s in the empire’s hands. Cindy is doing her best to locate it.
All of the roads are currently blocked by imperial brigades. We’re stranded in Duscae, and the skies haven’t cleared. A perpetual storm is on the horizon.
Lady Lunafreya delivered a message to Noct via Umbra, and his resolve has grown knowing that the Astrals support him.
Supply list: xx/xx/xx
Date xx/xx
Noct has formed a covenant with the Astral, Ramuh. Tonight, I am air drying this journal and praying that the rain hasn’t permanently damaged previous entries.
Strangely, Prompto has started noticing the Messenger of the Gods, Gentiana, in the background of some of the photos he’s been taking. She must be following Noctis, rather than Lunafreya, for the moment.
Supply list: Low on Ebony.
Date xx/xx
Today, Cindy called to tell us that she located the Regalia at the Aracheole Stronghold nearby. Infiltrating was hardly a problem, however, we were stopped by Ravus Nox Flueret once we’d found the Regalia. It appears he’s chosen to work with the Imperials. For a moment, it truly seemed a fight would break out between us as he overpowered Gladio, however, the mysterious Chancellor, Ardyn, intervened once more.
Whatever his motive is, it is a mystery. However, I can say with certainty, every time we happen into him, I get more and more uncomfortable. It almost feels as if he’s following our every move, despite the fact that we seem to aimlessly wander more than I am comfortable with.
Noct is clearly bothered by the appearances of both Ravus and Ardyn, but we have more important tasks to focus on, right now.
At least we have the car back. I don’t know that Prompto would have made it one more day on his feet. We’ve chosen to stay the night at a caravan, for a much needed break. We will discuss our next move in the morning.
Supply List: xx/xx/xx
Date xx/xx
Tense situation. Not much time.
Lestallum taken over by the Imperial army. Jared murdered. Iris and Talcott alive. Need to get to Caem.
Date xx/xx
Typically, I am not a fan of doing something on impulse. Today was a different story, however.
We took a break during our travel to Caem to take out an imperial base. Iris and Talcott were left in Old Lestallum, while the rest of us proceeded toward the base to avenge Jared in our own way. Unfortunately, we were not able to keep hold of the commander responsible for the attack, and though we were able to cause a lot of damage with the raid, we were temporarily fended off by a woman; Aranea Highwind. However, she didn’t pursue us long, and departed.
Tomorrow, we continue toward Caem.
Date xx/xx
Cid and Cindy have arrived to attempt to salvage King Regis’ boat, and repair it so that we may proceed to Altissa. Iris will be staying in Caem with Talcott, and we all participated in a small ceremony for Jared.
We haven’t had much time on this venture to really take in our great losses. Perhaps I’m too concerned for what tomorrow will bring day in and day out, or maybe it is simply my way of coping.
I’ll make time to deal with such feelings when we reach the end of our journey.
Date xx/xx
Today was quite long.
Gladiolus departed strangely in the morning, without a word. Whatever he’s up to, I trust he’ll return soon.
We started searching for mythril, which is needed to repair the boat. It led us to Vesperpool, where we met Aranea Highwind once more. We also met Ardyn again, and his sudden appearance was just as unsettling as before. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time.
We were forced into many battles with deamons, but we managed to recover the mythril in the ruins. Thanks to Aranea’s help, we are returning to Lestallum on an Imperial airship.
Many things became apparent today. The imperials are hunting daemons to use to creating magitek soldiers. Ardyn knows much more than he is letting on. Aranea is an ally.
I fear soon, it will be hard to keep the details straight. We are heading to Lestallum to meet up with Cindy’s associate Holly, as we cannot use raw mythril for the repairs. It needs to be treated.
Tomorrow will be yet another long day.
Date xx/xx
Gladiolus is back, thank goodness.
The power plant in Lestallum was covered in daemons, and disposing of them was no simple task. I fear I sweated out a few pounds in the heat.
We made a quick return to Caem with the mythril, so Cid and Cindy could repair the boat. We took a much needed rest, while telling Iris and Talcott of our venture. Noctis was visited by Umbra as well, with a message from Lady Lunafreya.
I think it may be starting to sink into him, that we will be meeting with her at long last.
Reminder: Give Gladio the stare, until he reveals where he got that new scar.
Supply List: xx/xx/xx
Date xx/xx
We have arrived in Altissa, with a lot heavy in our minds. The empire is encroaching on the city, demanding Lady Lunafreya be released into their custody. Thankfully, it appears Altissa has no intent on doing such.
Noct is to make a covenant with Leviathan. Lunafreya’s speech, I thought, was perfection.
We are to evacuate the citizens, in case Leviathan is not receptive. With the empire near, I fear things may not go smoothly.
---
That was the last thing Ignis Scientia wrote in his journal on their journey. In Altissa, he was separated from Gladiolus and Prompto, and as he attempted to make his way toward Noctis to help, he encountered several Imperials blocking his path. He also encountered Ravus, and the two made a shaky alliance as they both simply wanted to help Noct and Luna, respectively. As they approached the altar, Ignis found Pyrna, one of Luna’s dogs, injured nearby. When he touched the dog, he was given a vision of the future.
A future that Noctis would not survive.
Lunafreya was dead, and Noctis was unconscious. Ravus attacked Ignis out of grief and despair, and after their small bout was settled, they began the process of moving Luna and Noct from the area. However, Gladiolus appeared looking for Ignis -- or so it seemed. It was actually Ardyn, disguised as Gladio, there to kill Noctis. As Ignis was pinned to the ground by Imperial Soldiers, he had only a moment to decide on a course of action.
He forced the soldiers off, and put the Ring of Lucii on his hand.
Ignis was granted the power of kings, willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to save Noctis. With this newfound power, he was able to fight off Ardyn and the Imperial Soldiers, giving his all to drive them away. With his energy gone, he collapsed next to Noctis, as the flesh by his eyes sizzled away -- his sight burning away into nothing but darkness.
Gladio and Prompto arrived, rescuing the unconscious pair. Ignis wouldn’t awake for some time, his face bandaged and scarred, his vision permanently gone.
This, is when he wakes up in Zephon.
---
Iggy’s story doesn’t end there, however. Though he loses his sight, he insists on continuing their journey, if Noctis will allow him to. Despite the awkwardness they all experienced after Altissa, Ignis was able to bring the group back together, and force all the pain behind them -- so they could look only to the future. A future Ignis had seen, and Noctis insisted on continuing toward. The group moves toward Gralea, where the Crystal was taken, losing Prompto along the way to Ardyn’s savageness.
Along the way, the group is also forced to confront how and why daylight is vanishing at an alarming rate. With Luna’s death, nothing seems able to slow the eternal darkness. Ravus was executed by the Imperials for high treason, and thus the line of the Oracles was no more. With Aranea’s help, they are able to continue towards Gralea without endangering passengers, and they are forced face to face with Ardyn once more. However, with the help of Shiva -- or Gentiana, as the others had known her -- they’re able to force him back once more.
They gain the knowledge that Ardyn is immortal, and that Prompto is being held captive along with the Crystal.
Ignis and Gladiolus are separated from Noctis in Gralea, and are forced to follow Ardyn’s directions to the Keep. Together, they find footage of Ravus’ brutal death, and hurry to find Noctis before something happens to him. The entire group is finally able to reunite, and together, Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto urge Noctis toward the crystal, to banish the daemons.
And so, for ten years, Noctis is gone. During that time, Ignis was able to master his disability, as he awaited his King’s return. The land was coated in an eternal night, and together, Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto trained with Cor, becoming deamon hunters and readying themselves for Noctis’s return.
After a final campsite meal, the friends return to the ruins of Insomnia to complete the prophecy. Despite all of Ardyn’s attempts to hinder them, the friend are able to reach the citadel, where Noctis leaves to complete his duty as the True King. Ignis and the others continue to fight off the daemons outside, until the sun finally rises.
The vision Ignis saw ten years ago was finally completed.
