II. PERSONA
Reno is an eccentric individual who may come off as a condescending prick upon first meeting, but once you get to know him more, you learn he is a sarcastic, condescending prick. How others may view him is of little matter. He’s already the bad guy, so how much worse could things be based off of irrelevant opinions from those he’d probably never see again? One of Reno’s favorite things to do within battle is to toy with the opponent, or in this case, his personal victim. Pushing them to their limits is something he finds too much enjoyment in while tossing sarcastic remarks at them.
When it comes to his work, his work ethic isn’t necessarily the best, however, he does still be sure to get the job done, especially when Rude is around to ensure that Reno’s irresponsible attitude doesn’t stand in the way. Rude is the Yin to Reno’s Yang, being the exact opposite in personality, and yet the two are extremely close, reliable friends and coworkers rather than clashing like most would assume to occur from such different personalities. Reno does have a conscience and knows when something is morally incorrect, however, due to his job, there is no time to stress over such matters. He takes great pride in Shinra and his work, so he’s willing to go the extra-mile and push any morals out of the way.
Reno is also a very loyal individual, especially towards the other Turk members. It doesn’t matter if he butt heads with any of them or nags at them. At the end of the day, they are still part of the Turks. Despite being pulled from his own world and making his way to Zephon, his personality is not going to be changed. While he may not know where to focus his responsibilities and such, he isn’t going to change how he reacts to others or treats them.

III. HISTORY
Reno is a known character within the game for being one of the many antagonists introduced. Reno is introduced as someone who works for the Shinra Electric Companies special task force known as the Turks. In Crisis Core, we don’t often see Reno, who is almost always seen alongside Rude, his close friend and partner within their line of duty. Reno and Rude were sent out originally on recruiting missions to gather more SOLDIERS for the company. They had captured and detained many up until AVALANCHE appeared and freed the majority. However, from the Dirge of Cerberus game, we know Azul did not get free. Within the Crisis Core game, Reno, Rude, and Cissnei were dispatched to help fight Genesis’s army that was attacking Midgar. Throughout the game of Crisis Core, Reno is a small side character, mostly due to Tseng being the one to work one on one with Zack and having Reno and Rude work elsewhere.
In the original Final Fantasy game, Reno appears at the church in Sector 5 right after Cloud had agreed to be Aerith’s bodyguard. Reno was following orders, there to contain the Ancient and bring her back. This is one of the rare times that Reno is seen without his partner, giving players a chance to understand how fast and agile Reno truly is.Losing the battle to Cloud was not seen as a failure, more so, as a reason to try and fight again when he recovered and got the chance. Later on in the game, Reno was a big part of the sector 7 plate fall, being the one to authorize the code for the plate’s fall whilst also battling Cloud and the gang to keep them from interfering with Shinra plans. However, during this battle, Reno gets severely injured to the point he had to take a break as a Turk in order to properly recover.
Once Reno was fully recovered, he regrouped with Elena and Rude, in search of Sephiroth and his whereabouts.Throughout this next portion of the game, Reno and Rude are seen drinking, and later seen again gossipping about who they liked. Even Turk members need time to kick back and bullshit with one another in order to relieve the stress of their stress-heavy job. Regardless of whether they agree with what they have to do it or not, they almost always do it (except in rare instances). Under orders to locate Don Corneo, Rude and Reno can once again be seen drinking. However, after realizing their other missing partner and newbie, Elena, they worked together with Cloud and his group to locate their missing partner, and Yuffie.
After Meteor Fall, the president was taken secretly to a safe location in Healen Lodge as he was affected by geostigma. At this time, there was no cure for the sickness, but Elena was running a project to find a cure. While she was doing this, Reno and Rude were dispatched back in Edge, where they were to overlook a monument being built for those who were lost. The purpose of this was to recreate Shinra’s image rather than letting people think the company was as evil as many thought it was and was run by an “idiot president”. However, upon receiving word to track down Fabio Brown, Reno and Rude did so, and Reno beat the young male to a pulp, believing this individual had stolen from Elena’s research project. It was later discovered that this individual, Fabio Brown, whom he had beat up, was none other than Evan Townshend, Rufus’s half brother. Reno and Rude worked together to have the two meet face to face. A hell storm was raised due to Evan’s companions and Evan and his group fled. Later Reno returns back to Edge, and spoke with Evan who was now on a mission to track down and find his mother after she’d been gone and disappeared for so long. Respecting Evan’s wishes, Reno watched over the truck Evan was driving.
Towards the end of this novel, Reno and Rude were in a helicopter with a few of Evan’s friends, heading to find Evan. This was the first time Reno and Rude had the opportunity to cross paths with ‘Kadaj’; an enemy who had a striking resemblance to Sephiroth. Despite Tseng’s orders to attack Kadaj with the missile from their helicopter, Reno and Rude both refused, not wanting to bring harm to Rufus’s little brother and girlfriend. This is one of the few times throughout the series Reno goes against orders, however, it worked out in the end. Kadaj gets pulled into the “lifestream”, but it wasn’t the last they saw of him. Reno and Rude both per usual working together, use a helicopter to search for Jenova’s head (as Jenova was missing at this point), and were forced to cross paths once more with Kadaj, but also two new enemies by the names of Yazoo and Loz. Defeated by the individuals, the two partners in crime returned to Midgar, taking unconscious AVALANCHE members with them and telling them of the missing children after they woke.
Finally, it all comes towards an end when Kadaj summons Bahamut SIN.Reno and Rude did their best during this situation, rescuing unconscious children that were under Jenova’s influence and taking them to a safe location. The two continued to fight and despite being outnumbered, never gave up, up until their defeat but managed to survive. During the Advent Children movie, they continued to lend a helping hand to Cloud and his gang as best as they could, planting a bong at a tunnel exit and detonating it once Cloud was in safety, away from the bomb. Finally, with everything growing resolved, Reno had the rare chance to see the president Rufus Shinra be healed of his geostigma by a pond of lifestream within the church where it all began so long ago, with the Ancient Aerith.

“Yo, ‘sup partner.”
An annoyed look displayed on the ginger’s face, his lips scowling down and brows holding low over his eyes, a singular hand rubbing against his temple. With a single foot, he reached out, using the heel of said foot to connect with the chair in front of him, pulling it back with a single swing of the leg. Had the chair not had wheels below it, the chair would have fallen over, or even against him, however, this office was a place he was all too familiar with, from the spiderweb in the left top corner of the room, to the brack under the table. Even the scent of old leather was far too familiar to the male, only adding to his annoyance.
At this point in time, everything felt like wash, rinse, and repeat. The Turks were typically gathered within the confines of the room, discussing what was going on within Midgar or other areas, reading through files to stay up on the latest knowledge and advances from each department, and listening to the dull wind blowing against the window at the high elevation they sat. One would think that with bulletproof windows that hearing the wind would be nearly impossible, however, that is exactly what he heard on a daily basis and the consistent sound added to that nagging annoyance in the back of his mind.
He threw himself onto the seat, no regard for the chair sliding away from him or from under his feet. Again, he’d done this a million times at this point and with his quick reflexes, it wasn’t a concern in the slightest bit. What was a concern was the lack of things to do as they sat in the small ass room, listening to the ticking sound of a pen while the leader, Tseng, took notes upon file after file. Each stroke had its own consistency and he’d dare to say at this point he could probably figure what was being written on the papers by the sound of the stroke alone. Tseng’s face was neutral per usual, Rude was engrossed in whatever he was reading, if he was reading behind those sunglasses to begin with. A few times spent alone with Rude and it was easy to notice that he would slump off occasionally, mostly if they were traveling, never in the middle of an important job.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll just sit down, shut up, and get to work. Don’t need to tell me.”
Anything other than the silence that surrounded them all would be better than what he was forced to deal with.
