I took my bitterness and made it sweet
I took a broken heart and made it beat
I took a broken heart and made it beat
Her invitation crinkled in her hand as Aera grasped as it a little too tight. This had been a mistake; she shouldn't be here. She had a mission, and she learned all but naught so far about this strange new world or of anything of the history or gods aside the small sliver she had learned about Shiva. Still she found herself standing in the queue for admittance her reason being twofold: the first was that she had promised Ardyn to live the life she had been denied and she would not break her word, the second and more concerning was who in this world aside Ardyn, Caius, and Yuna knew her and could address a letter to her to come to the masquerade?
The line continued even as tried to press her mind for anyone else who could have invited her. She hadn't visited Torensten yet, so it wasn't as though she might have been invited as a guest or tourist. Something weird was happening, and just like any ruin she had ever found, she was gonna investigate and figure out just what was up. Aera tightened her mask tighter as she drew to the front of the line, her cane clacking against the marble staircase as she was assisted by one the ushers. She didn't speak as the attendant took her invitation just smiled graciously as she walked into the ballroom.
Deja vu struck her as she watched over the huddled masses crowded into the floor below her, and her base instinct screamed danger as she looked quickly to see if anyone stood nearby. She exhaled as the sense passed and she shook her head. Even if her murderer had been standing there how would she have known with everyone in their masks and costumes. She probably she have worn a real costume, but her dress fit the occasion just fine. Aera hmmed at just how she was going to be her investigation as she slowly descended the steps, another usher rushing to aide her down.
Aera circled the dance floor not wishing to get swept up in the merriment although the idea of it sounded fun. Alas, neither her body nor her mission at the moment afforded her the indulgence. As she walked she noticed a patio opening up into the garden and a bar set up outside. A tavern was as good a place as any to dig up information. She had visited them many a time before when she would hunt down Ardyn after sneaking away from the palace. Aera made her way to one of the bar stools and ordered white wine as she began talking to the bartender, "This is quite the lavish event. However, did we get so lucky as to be able to attend?" The question was loud enough that any others passing by might be able to chime in as she sipped at her glass.
