The young girl stopped mid sentence, having attracted the eye of the many that sprawled the market place. With a nervous laugh she gave a qucik bow and apologized for her being so loud. It was just so... Frustrating. None of this right. No matter where she went to! Their hadn't been a single spot that sparked anything lonliness for her. No one was here. Not Celes... Not Gau... Not even Gramps... She couldn't find or see anyone she remembered. It didn't help not a single place she saw she recognised. It was like she was thrust into an entirely different world and that just... Worried her.
If she was somewhere new did that mean she would never see her friends again? Did it mean she'd never see Gramps again, or anyone else in Thamasa? More than that... Would they miss her? She always got on everyone's nerves.... She wasn't certain if they liked her ir just put up with her for Strago. She wanted to say they were friends. They came to get her after all right? They saved her from a fire and then a monster later on. But she never asked so she wasn't sure. Would they miss her or just forget her? All this walking by herself, alone with her thoughts... She just wasn't sure.
She turned in her hands the only familiar objects she had left around her. A simple ring, the only Memento she had from her parents... And a dim magicite crystal, the same one from that mansion so long ago. A lot of them shattered and went away after their long battle. But this one? It was powerless like the rest but instead of shattering it crystal simply went dim in her hand that day. It was an amazing thing to her that made her keep it with her ever since. Of course she hsd no idea at the time it would be one of the few things record to her evenually. What happened? Why was she in this.... Weird place? Relm sighed in frustration. This made no since! If this ess some cosmic retribution for yelling at Gramps it was way overboard!
"I just... Don't want be alone anymore"
In the end Relm was still a child. Despite her magical prowess, despite her painting mastery. Despite everything she had been through she was still a child, a little girl. This loneliness was starting go get to her, break her down bit by bit. She was starting to worry about things she had never thought she needed to before. Among a swarm of strangers she was just one lone child. Alone... Maybe even forgotten. At this point someone... Anyone familiar would bring her a smile, make her jump for joy! Relm put on a strong front. But she was still a child.

Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
People made her itch.
Celes was a long way from her time back in Provo with another strong young man with a sword. She was a long way from constantly glancing up at the sky, her shoulders tense as she couldn’t help but wait for a seering flash from the wrath of a mad god. She was a long way from twitching every time someone came up too close, and she didn’t have to be armed at every second of the day now. Yes, Celes had come along way since she’d first woken on this confusing and impossible world.
But still, people made her itch.
She gave herself the widest berth from the crowd that she could manage, staying to the sidelines rather than going straight in. Her arms were crossed, her expression tense as she tried to keep her lips from thinning whenever anyone passed too close. She eyed her target carefully -- a market stall carrying potions and antidotes and all manner of magical supplies that Celes wouldn’t need personally, but that might be helpful if a certain other sword user ever ran low. There were five men crowded around it and all manner of others crossing before her like a river current. She’d waited for at least ten minutes already, hoping that the men would pass, but every time one left another would take his place. Celes steadied herself with a long breath.
In order to reach it, she would have to touch someone.
She ducked in carefully, longing all the time for her armor and pauldrons and sword instead of her usual yellow civilian’s clothes. She danced carefully around the incoming crowd, sliding her shoulders every time anyone moved too close, until finally she was standing before the market stall and slid sideways into the only small space available. She knew what she wanted, but she pretended to examine the potions anyway until the shopkeeper had a moment to help her. Her back felt terribly vulnerable.
A heavy hand fell on her shoulder. Celes made a high pitched noise and moved to throw it off, but it wouldn’t fall so easily and she hadn’t brought her sword. Instead, she turned to face it, hands up and threaded for a spell. Its owner -- a towering, mountain of a man armed with an axe hanging from his hip -- blinked in surprise. ”Do you need any help with that?” he asked. ”I doubt a lady like you has much experience with it.”
Celes took a slow breath through her nose. ”I’m fine,” she said and then glanced at the hand on her shoulder. After a long pause, the man removed it.
”Well that’s a standard potion,” the man went on unbidden. ”And those are your softs. That’s for petrification. And that’s a-”
”That’s a high-potion,” Celes finished for him. ”And an antidote there. An elixir over the counter, and an ether to the right. I’ve done this before.”
”Oh.” The man faltered before fixing her with an appreciative smile. ”Your husband must be a lucky man.”
Celes felt her eye twitch. The merchant finally reached her and she threw her money at him, grabbing her items before he even had the time to count her gil as she turned on her heel and stormed off, not caring that she shouldered three people on her way out.
People made her itch.
She was so driven by the hot frustration behind her throat that she didn’t notice how the crowd twisted to avoid a small figure standing among them. In fact, she barely glanced up as she heard the girl shout. She saw a small stature, blonde hair, loose pink pants, and…
Celes froze where she stood, stumbling forward as someone shoved into her from behind and then cursed her for stopping so suddenly. That girl! But no, it couldn’t be!
She slipped to the side without apologizing, ducking forward to get a better look at her. And there she was. A young girl no older than twelve adorned with scarves and beads and an odd hat that was far too big for her. She was alone, just like they’d found her in that terrible house full of paintings, but Celes was certain it was her just like she would have recognized Terra or Edgar or Locke. The name came to her in a gasp as she stood there, watching her in shock.
”Relm?” She touched at her lip, eyes wide. ”What are you doing here?”
The young mage looked up, a look of shock to equal the Solder's own on her face. She blinked in surprise rubbing her eyes. So certain at this point that she was alone she half expected the calling of her name had been her mind playing tricks on her. But then she continued to speak. Relm's first response wasn't to answer said question however. Instead she reached out, still unsure of her own eyesight. Finally stray tears filled her eyes and she bolted forward latching onto the former general's body with her arms, gripping her lower body in a hug.
"Celes! Your here! I... I couldn't find anyone... No matter where I looked"
She was a mess, being on her lonesome for so long had affected her quite a bit. The sight of a familiar face filled her with joy and caused her to leap before thinking, causing her current position on Celes. She had been frantic and worried. So sure she was never going to see anyone again. But then Celes came! Just like she did before she came again! She looked up and gave a light smile. Celes was so serious, but she also kept going when the rest of them pretty much stopped. It seemed that didnt change even in this weird new place. Why was she here? Well... Of course she had no idea. Not in the slightest! She just woke up here and... Everything went downhill. She pushed herself back and released the blonde so she could relay what little she did know.
"I... Don't know Celes. The last thing I remember before getting lost... Wherever this is was arguing with Strago. Then I walked out of Thamasa and... Everything got fuzzy and I just... Woke up in the middle of some forest. I kept wandering on my own till I got here"
Her face flushed in embarrassment at that. Oh boy, she still wasn't back in the town. She was wherever... This was instead.
"Oh he's gonna be so mad... I just wanted to make him feel what it was like..."
She walked back and forth a minute. Oh she didn't want to make the old coot go mad or anything! She just wanted to make him think about what he told her. After all he would wanna know what happened to her right? She just wanted to know what happened to her dad! Oh none of this had gone right!
But wait... As happy as she was to see her... Why was Celes here?
"Celes umm but why are you here? For that matter where exactly is 'here?' I haven't really... Asked"
She was to preoccupied trying to find someone. To find anyone. To down on herself on thinking all she'd have left was mementos. But Celes was here. Just like before Celes found her. That meant she had at least one friend here right? That meant she wasn't alone.

Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
”C-Celes…?”
Relm looked up in shock and their eyes met. Celes stood there, frozen as Relm reached out to her. Her face went red. And then her eyes watered and filled with tears.
”Oh! Oh no…” was all Celes could say before the girl was running towards her. Thin arms clinging to her waist in a death grip and Celes stiffened, staring down at her in stunned horror.
What was she supposed to do now?
”Celes! Your here! I... I couldn't find anyone... No matter where I looked!”
Relm trembled against her stomach and Celes felt her shirt dampen with tears. Celes gaped at her for a moment before awkwardly patting at the girl’s back. ”Oh. Yes. I’m...here.” She found herself glancing around for help, but there was no one around but curious bystanders slowing to watch the spectacle. There was no Terra. No Strago. No Sabin. Only Celes and a crowd full of gawking strangers.
Oh god, what was she supposed to do with a crying child?
Relm finally, mercifully released her, but the sight of her tear-stained face wasn’t any better. ”"I... Don't know Celes. The last thing I remember before getting lost... Wherever this is was arguing with Strago. Then I walked out of Thamasa and... Everything got fuzzy and I just... Woke up in the middle of some forest. I kept wandering on my own till I got here.”
”You’re new then?” The words finally found their way to her tongue as she latched onto something she knew how to talk about. ”That’s a relief! Well, not a relief, but…” Relm still looked upset. Something about Strago? Celes opened her mouth to say something but closed it when she found nothing else. Silence was better than whatever nonsense she’d spill if left to her own devices.
”Celes umm…” Now it was Relm’s turn to look uncomfortable. ”But why are you here? For that matter where exactly is 'here?' I haven't really... Asked"
”Oh! Well, I don’t really. Know. I’ve been here for a while. I don’t know how long, but long enough to lose track of time at any rate. I just woke up in a forest somewhere. Just like you. I don’t know why…”
Unless nothing was real. Her breath chilled at the thought she hadn’t entertained in months. Unless it was all just an illusion. Unless what she’d seen in that damned forest wasn't a dream and they were all just victims of the sadistic toying of a mad god…
”But I’m sure we’ll find out eventually. This place isn’t terrible anyway. Not compared to what we left.” Celes’ smile was bitter. Dry with the dust of lost trauma. ”Do you have somewhere to stay? And where’s Strago? He usually doesn’t leave you alone.” She blinked again, lungs going cold for a different reason now. She hadn’t met anyone who’d been brought here with someone else, and if Relm was truly alone…
Then there was no one but Celes to care for her.
”Well," Celes tried to steady herself, but it just came out uncertain and a little tense. "We’ll figure something out.”
Celes did a lot more to comfort the young girl than she likely thought. She didn't push her away nor neglect her. That simple act of letting her vent, it did wonders for her knowing this was real. That, uncomfortable or not someone did care. That Celes listened did the most for Relm, that she spoke back did as well. Relm offered a smile and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Celes... Thank you... Sorry I know"
She tried to back off just a little, give Celes a little more space. Terra was the one that gushed over kids. She didn't think Celes hated kids she just... Didn't know what to do. Solder and general, but she didn't recall her saying she was a mother. But Relm couldn't help herself. Celes was the first friend she had seen in so long. She couldn't help herself. She was just so... relived. She wasn't alone anymore. She had a friend... And that was wonderful! It made her world a lot brighter. It was enough that she was visibily returning to her more cheery and happy self. When the subject turned to if she was new Relm nodded. Well of course she was right? Well new to this... Place anyway.
"Yep! I just... Woke up a few days ago, then like I told you I wandered around, all alone until I got here and... Then you found me"
Relm's joy was such that she at first almost leap to grab the former general in another tight hug, begining to make the movement before stopping herself. Nah, that make Celes uncomfortable. She didn't want that. On the other hand it confused her why Celes thought it was good she was new. Well apprantly not 'good' but better than if she wasn't? That was a bit confusing to her. The younger girl tilting her head a bit in confusion.
"Is it bad not to be New...? I'm pretty sure we aren't dreaming... I tried all the tricks for waking up from normal and lucid dreams,. None of them worked! But... I don't remember anything here ether..."
It was weird. They had been all around the world, before and after it's ruin. It didn't make sense. They never saw... Anything like this. None of these towns were familer. She was just a kid but... She knew. She just didn't want to admit it. She felt like they wearn't there anymore. Now they were 'here' but where HERE was she had no idea! Celes had even been here a while and she didn't know! They both woke up in a forest and... into all this. That part seemed to bother Celes though. Relm could notice the small details in things and in people. It's what made her art so accurate, besides her magic. She'd take a step forward and reach out to her again, this time in concern.
"Hey Celes are you...?"
But she was interrupted as her friend continued their conversation. But Relm's concern did not leave her. It was clear in her tone and her composure something was wrong with her. She agreed that this place didn't look as bad as the world they left. If anything it seemed much better off. But... Was that worth it? She knew that wasn't what Celes meant but... It was hard to imagine something that wasn't home as better.
"But Celes are you... Ok? Sure it does look better here though...."
Was she just not trying to worry her? Or was it personal? She didn't know. She then gulped as Celes asked her next question, which distracted her from her line of questioning. She fiddled with her a fingers a bit before starting the full explanation.
"I wanted to find my dad now that we stopped Kefka... I asked gramps to help me but... He said no, said it was for my own good I never know him. We got into a big argument and like I said I ran outside of Thamasa. So when I passed out and woke up here... We wearn't together"
As for a place to stay....
"No I... Don't. But you do right? I mean if you've been here a while you must have figured something out! So I could could just stay with you and Locke till we find Strago right?"
Wait she didn't even know if... Oh no that might have been the wrong thing to say. The girl doubled back a bit, an apologetic look on her face.
"S...sorry I wasn't thinking that he might not be..."
She didn't finish her sentence, instead rubbing her arm as she looked at the ground in regret. If Locke wasn't here that probably affected Celes, even as strong as she tended to be at times. Relm didn't want to make her worry anymore than she likely already did. Shaking her head she decided her friend probably didn't need her moping, even over that. instead she put her hands on her hips and declared in agreement.
"Well it's like you said! We'll figure it out!"
A confident nod followed, yes she was certain of it!

Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
"I wanted to find my dad now that we stopped Kefka,” Relm started and Celes just frowned, blinking at her.
”Ah, what?” she said, but Relm had a story to tell and Celes didn’t want to interrupt further. Still, she could hardly listen to the rest when that first sentence echoed around in her head. She understood Relm trying to find her father, but what had that been about ‘stopping Kefka…?’
”So I could could just stay with you and Locke till we find Strago right?"
”Hm?” Celes hadn’t been listening. Relm had got in a fight with Strago over her father, and then found herself here? And now she was asking to stay with her. And…
”Locke? Oh…” Celes hadn’t heard that name in a long time, and just saying it…
”S...sorry I wasn't thinking that he might not be..."
Celes shook her head. Relm hadn’t meant anything by it, but saying his name out loud. It was too painful.
”You can stay with me,” Celes said far stronger than before. ”Of course you can stay with me.” She still didn’t know the first thing about children. She didn’t know how to take care of anyone but herself, but she knew Relm. She liked Relm. She would have jumped in front of a snarling behemoth for Relm, and she knew the girl was stronger than anyone her age had a right to be. She proved it right then as she straightened herself, practically beaming with an optimism that Celes knew she didn’t feel.
”Well it's like you said! We'll figure it out!"
Celes felt something warm inside her. Seeing a child with so much strength and courage...Well, she couldn’t help a tinge of pride no matter how uncomfortable it all made her. If Relm believed they’d manage something, then they would. It was as simple as that.
”I’ve rented an apartment a little way from here. I ran into Setzer a while ago, but we parted ways and I don’t know what he’s doing now. Or if he’s even still here. You know how flighty he can be.” She tried very hard to muffle a scowl at the mention of him. She’d been relieved to find someone she knew, and she still was, but time had dulled her unease around him. It only took one attempted forced marriage to make someone never want to be alone in a room with a man, and Celes had enough experience with his attempts to woo her afterwards that the prospect of his company set her on edge. Outside of catastrophe, Setzer was a friend best kept at a distance.
”But I’ve more than managed on my own. I take hunting jobs mostly. Monsters, you know. It’s a little unpredictable, but I make enough to look after myself. And I don’t mind helping people while I do it.” Celes hesitated before looking at Relm in interest. ”Is there anything you want from the marketplace before we go? My apartment’s a little sparse at the moment. I wasn’t expecting to have anyone with me.”
"Huh? Something wrong Celes? Do you think he's right? I mean... With the mad man gone I figured it'd be a lot safer. I can handle a few monsters you know!"
She didn't seem to catch what was distracting Celes that time, or rather assumed it was the other part of what she said. After all they all knocked that mad god down to the abyss! Turned him to dust, kicked his butt! No way THAT could be what was bothering Celes right? That'd be silly. It would mean Celes got a few memories knocked loose or something! Well that just couldn't be it-she still remembered Relm after all! Nah it had to be the thought of her going out on her own. But it was ok! She could handle herself plenty and now that she found Celes their was no worries at all! They could work together to live out... Wherever this was until they figured everything out.
Relm could tell she messed up when she mentioned Locke. She did the moment she said it. Their had been no gurentee he was here or at least that Celes had found him yet. The girl looked to the ground with a frown on her face. But then a light went off in her head, how she could make up for this little mess up. Yes that was it! All she needed were some supplies... Then she could make it.
Despite her shame at what she knew hurt Celes she couldn't help but jump for joy when she allowed her to stay. Yes that would be wonderful! She wouldn't be a slouch ether nope, she'd pull her weight!
"You won't regret it Celes! I'll help us move things foward as well as I can! I can make paintings to help us with money and you know, if we need to fight I can use my drawing too!"
A seemingly random comment but one that made sense to those that knew Relm and her power. Breathing life into her art... That was her talent. This was true when it came to normal art and the magical variants she most used in combat. Celes' acceptence only made Relm more confident that they would succeed. Together, just like before! She knew it... She saw it already. The bonds between friends could overcome any obstacle in their way! Relm believed that with all her heart.
Oh Celes had seen Setzer? Well what she described certainly sounded like him. He was all about risk and taking chances. It didn't surprise her that he didn't stay around long without a common goal for them all to work toward. Though she could imagine the akward scene Celes had to deal with him. He didn't know when to stop was the issue... Probably another reason they parted ways rather quickly.
"Well he never can stay in one place, can be as weird as Edgar sometimes to!"
Though Setzer had taken it one step further with the whole attempted marriage with a dash of kidnapping. Well it all worked out in the end, but from what she overheard she couldn't blame Celes for not being terribly fond of the man in a normal situation. Oh but she did have her own place! An apartment. It seemed like Celes wss managing great on her own. She was happy for that. But now they could work together! After all two would be even more effective right? Relm didn't want to just sit around and leach off her friend ether.
"Ah! well I can help Celes! I mean... It wouldn't be fair for you to do all the providing right? I can defend myself to, you know that so... Let me come, that way we can support each other!"
Her confidence was brimming. She had no intention of making Celes do it a. She appricated her taking her in. But Relm wasn't about to make her do everything herself. She hoped Celes understood. She wanted to help.
"I want to help to, you know?
When asked about anything she needed the artist was reminded of the project she had planned to make her earlier plunder up to Celes. She'd need a bit more colors for that. Something to capture her vision just right. She just had to slip it in proper. she always painted so it wouldn't seem off for it to be the thing she asked for right?
"Well I'm sure theirs food, I'm not TO picky... Oh but I could use some art supplies. Any way I'm going to to help I'll need them to do it proper you know?"
The young girl brimmed confidence, having found a friend filled her with vigor, with energy. She had no doubt in her mind, they would make it through this!

Use your own eyes and see for yourself whose side I'm on!
Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
Relm wasn’t just willing to help -- she was excited. Celes had already forgotten just how enthusiastic she could be and just how strong-willed. Relm was still a child, there was no doubt about that, but if any child could handle herself out in the world, it was her. Or Gau, she supposed, but she wasn’t certain that “running about the plains like a feral animal” really counted as “handling himself.”
Celes didn’t know why she had been the one to find Relm. She didn’t know why they were two of the only ones that had found themselves here, but she knew one thing for certain. She would work to protect Relm with everything she had. The stakes had raised. She wasn’t only in it for herself anymore.
Relm’s eyes lit up at Celes’ suggestion, and that was enough to make her glad she’d made it at all. ”Well I'm sure there’s food, I'm not too picky... Oh but I could use some art supplies. Any way I'm going to to help I'll need them to do it proper you know?"
Art supplies. Celes should have guessed. She looked out at the market stalls and then paused. ”Well,” she started and then hesitated. What would she need? Paint? She was certain there was paint involved.”Why don’t you take some gil and find what you’ll need? Art isn’t really...I mean. I don’t really know one brush from another to tell the truth.”How much gil would that be? Celes pulled out her collection and counted through it awkwardly. A few hundred? A thousand maybe? The girl was traumatized; she’d need something. Celes gave the coins an uncertain look before handing over the most she could stand to part with.
Even if she didn’t know what to do with a child, she could at least give her the money to entertain herself.
”I’ll wait here until you’re done. Don’t go too far though. I’ve seen street gangs and bandits roaming around here so I’ll want you close enough that I can jump in if I have to.” Celes crossed her arms. The last thing she needed was to break up another gang war, but she was more than ready to do it if it meant keeping the peace. ”Understand?”
Of course she was willing to help. As young as she was Relm still wanted to help people. She wanted stuff for herself to sure, what kid didn't? But she also had no issue helping others, that went doubly so or more for her friends. Celes was the only one of her friends she had met since coming here. To Relm it was ironic that the one that brought them all togrther before had found her again. It seemed like Celes had a knack for that sort of thing. Well she was a former general right? Maybe she was just good at leading them all, finding her wayward 'soldiers' and bringing them back together. That's the only thing she could imagine anyway. They were all friends! Relm was happy to be with one of hers again. She gave a light giggle as Celes stated she was not in fact an expert in art. That was fine! Though she did have to admit the way adults, and most of all Celes or Terra got awkward at times was cute at times. They were adults so seeing them like that was enough to make the child giggle. Not because she thought it was bad, it was simply fun to see between all the battles and clashes where everyone was serious.
"That's ok Celes! I know exactly what I need! It shouldn't take too long"
That and... If the exchange rates were like her world the particular types of paints she wanted for her surprise were gonna be quite a bit more experience than the normal. She could buy more average quality paints for any combat they had to go through. But for her little gift for Celes... She needed those to be just right. She was brought from her thoughts with Celes' direction toward her.
"Oh but Celes I could handle a few ban..."
She stopped when her fellow blonde crossed her arms and made herself more clear. The child gave a small huff. But she did understand why Celes worried. They had been through a lot even back in there world. At least twice now they had all been separated completely. She couldn't blame Celes for worrying... Up until a short while ago she had been worrying herself to death herself.
Still that didn't mean she couldn't tease her friend.
"Ok understood! You know Celes, you could pass for my mom... No my big sister at this rate! Our physical traits are even mostly the same, no one could tell!"
The girl gave a playful wink and after confirming she understood went off in search of her paints. As td she stayed withen sight of Celes. This wasnt as difficult as originally planned though.... She was slightly annoyed after a bit. Ok why couldn't Locke have simple colors like Celes? Sure she had a few different oncrd but they were each for a whole area. Meanwhile Locke had two or three... For just his bandana! The rest of his outfit just had more mixes! Well at least it was simple getting Celes' together. Once she got her new paints both for her little project and a variety for any other purpose she needed along with cases of different brushes. Yep that was everything. Lucky for her she didn't even attract a bandit to her knowledge. Really though what bandit would even be interested in art supplies? That would be weirder than the guy they met in the arena. The only downside was the paints she needed well... It took up half the gold Celes had given her. She wasn't certain if that was bad or good but.... Well it happened. She blamed Locke and his multi colored outfit! As she returned to the general with a sway im her step she smiled because, to her knowledge she followed Celes' direction exactly she then handed back the remaining gold to Celes to take back if she wanted.
"Thank you Celes! That was all I needed! ...what's your apartment like?"
Relm was happy Celes wasn't an art person. If she was well... It would become readly apprent how expensive some of those paints were. But it would be worth it! She knew exactly how to use them, and exactly what she was going to to paint Celes to make up for her earlier mess up.

Use your own eyes, and see for yourself which side I'm on.
”Okay, understood!” Relm said before shuffling her feet, a mischievous gleam in her eye. ”You know Celes, you could pass for my mom... No my big sister at this rate! Our physical traits are even mostly the same, no one could tell!”
”I...What?” Celes blinked at her in shock, but she’d already winked and slipped away into the crowd. Celes was left staring after her, gaping.
Her mother? Did it really look like…?
No. Obviously not. Celes was only nineteen after all, and Relm had to be nearing twelve, but an older sister? Her cheeks heated at the thought. She’d never had a family before. She wouldn’t even know where to start with what sisterhood even meant, and yet…
She couldn’t say she hated the idea.
While Relm was gone, Celes took her place against a nearby wall, arms crossed and shoulders set against it. She tried to keep her eyes sharp for the girl, but Relm just wasn’t tall enough to stick out above the crowd, and Celes had to remind herself that Relm was strong. Relm was capable. And if anyone tried to hurt her, they’d face Relm’s wrath before Celes’.
It didn’t take overly long for Relm to return as though she’d merely popped from the ground, eyes bright and gleaming. She handed over Celes’ money and her stomach sunk at the lightness of it all. Were art supplies really that expensive?
"Thank you Celes! That was all I needed! What's your apartment like?"
Celes was a little taken aback by Relm’s excitement and childish lack of focus. Still, she tried to steady herself quickly. She wasn’t one to “roll with the social punches.” Not nearly as well as she rolled with physical ones at least.
”Well. It’s small, first off. So be ready for that. And I haven’t really decorated yet. It’s mostly just been a place to stay since I seem to be sticking around. I don’t make much money doing what I do, so it’s all I can afford right now. It’s more than most in my position can afford.”Because of Caius. It all came back to him, didn’t it? The jobs, the flow of money, the reason to stick around in the first place. They didn’t have a single spark of chemistry, and yet…
She shook her head. Had it been so long since she’d had allies without any other strings attached?
”Let’s get going then. I’ll take the couch until I can get us another bed. And we’ll need to get your painting set up. I should have a few days until my next job. Unless Caius shows up with another request, but we’ll deal with that when we get there.” Celes started off down the street, eyeing the sky thoughtfully. Running into something familiar...It was an odd experience every time. It was like meshing together dreams and reality until she couldn’t tell the difference.
With Relm walking beside her, Celes was struck by an odd feeling that she couldn’t quite identify. A big sister. Was that what she’d become?
Either way, she had more to care for now than just herself. And she didn’t exactly hate that idea either.
