It seemed like it would be a routine job, running out, killing something and then coming back with proof of its defeat to be rewarded with a little gil before moving on to the next job that came her way. However, this one proved to be a bit more difficult than she was expecting. Out on the scorching sands of the Sagolii Desert, near the Forgotten Springs. That was where she was dealing with this void sent.
After dealing with such big problems, this was actually nice, it was something that she found to be a soothing exercise and it helped to make sure her skills didn't get too rusty. A grin spread over her face when she finally tracked the thing down. A smirk, and her blade was pulled from her back. She crept around the rock that was between her and the void sent. She kept low, eyes fixed on her target before she launched in to an assault. Unmend was used first followed by an Unleash, all just to piss the thing off so it'd focus on her and not run away.
The battle became rather boring for her after a while though, she was so used to the larger scale battles now or fighting primals, maybe even running through areas and clearing them out of plenty of monsters and animals. That this? The battle was easy. The hard part had been locating it in the end.
”Y'know-What-You-Are?” She spoke between swings.
”Annoying-As-Fuck. That's-What.” She snarled, it was almost weakened enough for her to deal a finishing blow, then collect her proof and go claim her reward, a handful of gil no doubt, stingy bastards, but hey, this was doing a service and really? She shouldn't expect anything for it, honestly, she didn't but when people actually offered to pay? She sort of expected some sort of large sum... Maybe she was just being retarded with that thinking. If it was too pathetic of an amount? Well she'd just tell them to keep it and continue on, if it was a generous amount she'd tell them to keep half of it.
She wouldn't be the one to put the citizens of Eorzea out of pocket because of her own stupid greed.
Finally, the beast was wounded enough, though it tried to get away! She rushed after it.
”DON'T YOU TURN YOUR BACK TO ME!” Outrage, she was fuming and in her reckless rage, she charged right after it aiming to stop it before it either escaped her or called for allies. It opened a void and what did she do? She grabbed its tail and it pulled her through with it, one of her rings slipped off her finger, she tried to grab it but she was too late and it fell to the sand. Not only did she lose her ring but somewhere in that darkness, she lost her grip, somewhere in that darkness, she fell for what seemed like forever. Just … Darkness. Nothing more. Not a single shred of light, so dark that she lost her bearings.
”Well... This was a stupid thing to do... Wonder how long it'll take for me to be swallowed up by some big nasty thing...” She knew it was just a matter of time, after all, you can't fight that which you cannot s-
Light. Bright light. Almost blinding after being in the dark, gradually she opened her eyes and she looked around herself. She was...
”Balls.” The one word she uttered as she switched out her sword for a staff mid-air, then she cast stoneskin. Away went the staff, out came the sword, shadow skin, grit, foresight, shadow wall. One after the other the abilities were activated and now? Now all she could hope for was that she would find a soft landing in some flowers or maybe water. She wasn't so lucky. She hit rock. Hard. It chipped part of one of her horns, her tail tip was broken, she rolled down to a flatter piece of land and blood ran from her head. Slowly, the world started to turn in to vibrant colors that bled in to one another. She was going to pass out.
”... Guess I let everyone down... Good job me... I'm sorry guys...” And with that, the world started to turn black once more as she fell unconscious. If only she knew what came next for her.
Slowly her eyes parted, hours after her descent, hours after she hit the ground, her sword laid away from her out of reach as did her dark chestnut staff, her vision was blurry, there was a little blood but she... Well she wasn't sure if it was hers or not. Yet something told her she had to move. She had to claim those weapons as her own. She forced herself to her feet. Silent as she did, not even a groan came from her, instead she tried to focus her mind, tried to remain calm and she went to retrieve the two fallen weapons. They felt, like they belonged to her. There was a sense of familiarity about them but she couldn't quite place it.
Up to the sky she looked after a moment of examining.
"I feel... Like I fell... A really long way... But.... Where do I go now? Where's.... Home?" Slowly she set off, ignoring the slight sticky feeling of drying blood against her scales, her tail swayed with each step she took and she now realized, this place? It was not familiar to her, she didn't know this place, she didn't even get a sense of home from it either. It felt alien to her.
Yet, she needed to move. She couldn't stay out here. It was getting dark out and depending on this world, she might not last the night.
She however heard a snap, her blade was torn from her back,m held before her as she swivelled and braced herself for a possible foe. She might be dizzy, she might pass out even if she pushed too hard but she couldn't be off guard or she could end up as a tasty... Whatever she was, snack.
Then came the foot steps. Oh. A person. Slowly she twirled the blade and jammed the tip in to the ground beside her then she leaned against it. Not a single word was spoken, she would wait for them to speak to her or leave her be. It was their choice after all.

Hope was getting better at this solo-mission thing he had going on. It was a lot easier than relying on someone else, and arguing the entire time. It enabled him to do it at his own pace and not meet other’s expectations, which, as a ‘White Mage’ was to keep them alive and not screw up. Which was a lot of pressure, mind you. No matter how good he was at it.
Healing aside, the solo-mission he was on required that he examine the monsters of the area to check if their numbers were abnormal, or not. He was also going to see if he could find any plants that he’d read about in local books, or heard from more experienced individuals about. It’d help in his study of, ‘What is this Place?’ and ‘How hard is it to Survive Here?’ book that he had going on.
Mount Hotan—a place with long planes and lots, and lots of rock formations filling it like jagged teeth. Hope juggled between the map he had started on, and the compass, checking his direction. So far, so good. There didn’t seem to be many monsters, not as many as there had been in Reikinto Sands. His quiet steps and quick to hide reflexes saved him from many a fight, and soon he felt like he was almost done.
Staying out here too long wouldn’t be a good idea, especially if the larger predators decided to come out and take a bite out of him. The report he’d give them would have to do, Hope thought to himself while folding up the map and sticking it in his large go-to pocket. It snapped closed as he fastened the strap, and he looked about for a moment. “Nothing more here to see,” his body swiveled around, feet turning backwards so he could retrace his steps and head back to civilization.
The boy stopped, though, when he heard something. Quite familiar; like the sound of a sword being drawn nearby. It made him almost dive to the ground, and flatten himself against it in hope that whatever it was, it would go on past him. Hope stopped himself, though. If it was a person, maybe he could talk to them. Find out why the heck they were out here in the first place. Who knows, maybe this would go like it had with Kuja, but… more pleasant.
His hand went back behind him, clasping onto the boomerang that sat, folded in its holster and ready to throw. Better to be prepared, if they were bandits or something. Heavy steps, loud like when he had first alerted her of his presence followed, and Hope stepped out to where the stranger could see him. White hair that usually seemed soft and fluffy had a wild blow to it, from running and jumping and moving about all day, the ends dark with sweat that had yet to dry.
He had the face of a sheltered child, recently brought out into the dark world. Hope’s eyes though, reflected naught fear, but wariness and intelligence. Here was a young child that knew what they were doing, although they may not carry the look of someone that did. Green eyes widened as they focused on the reptilian like humanoid, and Hope opened his mouth to let out a slightly-less intelligent first word than he had planned on, “Whoa.”
What is that? The thought raced through his mind like a chocobo trying to win a race, and failing. He’d never seen something like, like whatever that was. Was it a monster local to the area? Something that had wandered from where it usually inhabits? Hope let the dumbstruck look hang on his face for a moment, taking her in. How interesting—he wanted to know, and it seemed to be advanced enough to not be classified as a monster. It looked human, almost, excluding the horns, tail, and scales. Horns—one of them looked like it was broken. He did a double take on her appearance and took a hesitant step forward, raising his hand. “Curasa,” He spoke, and the healing spell—Etro he hoped that she knew he wasn’t going to hurt her, but heal her—flew forward like a small leaf on the wind, and hopefully restored her somewhat to where she wasn’t bleeding or in severe pain. It looked like, whatever had happened, it had hurt a lot. Maybe a monster attack?
She continued to lean against the blade that was embedded in the ground at the moment. Arching a brow she eyed the, wait, a kid? What in the world was a child doing out her alone, and without much in the way of a weapon either by the looks of things. She shook her head for a moment, her face was starting to itch but she ignored it easily enough.
“Whoa.” Was the response she got and she almost smiled. Almost but not quite. That look of surprised lead her to the conclusion he'd never seen a... Whatever-the-hell she was before. Slowly she used one hand to wave. She seemed relaxed, at least body language wise that was until he started casting a spell.
That better not be harmful or I'm taking that kids head off. She thought though she didn't voice her thoughts, it'd be a poor choice on her part if she did.
“Curasa,” Wait, that sounded almost like the same sort of sylla-soothing. Her thought process was interrupted by that soothing sensation, one she knew all too well actually. A cure spell.
"Well it's good to know they have Cure spells here too..." She confirmed she could in fact speak.
"Cheers for the heals. So kiddo, why're you out in this scary place alone like a Billy no mates?" She asked as she used a single hand to haul the blade out of the ground.
"Also is there anywhere safe 'round here? I'd rather not sleep in a tree and end up becoming some snack for a bleedin' monster." She was being chatty.
"From your reaction I guess it's safe to say you haven't seen anything that looks like me right little Hyur?" Hyur? What was a Hyur? Well she assumed it was a species from the way she said it. Probably a hornless, tailess one. So hey maybe she did know certain things. She scratched her head, this, was all going to be a learning curve for her she supposed.
"From whence do you hail?" She asked as she rested the blade on her shoulder. She needed to get moving and then there was the sound of her stomach.
"Yeah yeah I'll feed you in a bit, need to figure things out first before I eat." She grumbled as her eyes focused on her stomach and then she started walking.
"So, lead the way to wherever kiddo, I'll chop up anything that gets in our way and turn it in to a miq'abob." She chuckled. Well she could at least remember what a miq'abob was, and it was pretty damn tasty at that.

The strange creature seemed to become defensive, just like he thought it would when he started casting the spell. Then it seemed to relax, maybe, just a little when she found out that it wasn’t harmful. That was good, by the size of that sword, Hope didn’t want to think just what she could do with it.
"Well it's good to know they have Cure spells here too..."
It seemed to—wait, speak? Hope perked his head a bit, seeming even more interested in the new organism than he had moments before. It was intelligent enough to speak, and it spoke in a language he could understand as well. How fascinating.
“Cheers for the heals. So kiddo, why're you out in this scary place alone like a Billy no mates?"
"Also is there anywhere safe 'round here? I'd rather not sleep in a tree and end up becoming some snack for a bleedin' monster."
Hope had to wait a minute, one side of his refusing to give up on analyzing the intelligent species in front of him. Etiquette won in the end, and he cleared his throat as he dropped the hand that had been hovering in the air in front of him, even after the spell had finished. Kiddo—he wasn’t, okay, maybe he was, but it still seemed to make him twist and turn in his spot, one of his knees bending as he tapped the toe of his shoe against the ground, getting rid of excess energy. “Hope. My name’s Hope.” Not Kiddo. Please don’t keep using Kiddo. “I’m on a request.” Did it understand what those were, he wondered. It seemed like whoever it was, they were equipped for combat. “To scout the area and check out the monster population.”
Her last question, or the one after that made him think for a moment. No, there wasn’t really anywhere safe around here to stay. There were miles away from civilization, or, at least, from Provo. It had taken him a day to get here, and he had to camp somewhere in the middle and pray that he didn’t get eaten by anything when he hid in a hollowed tree, his back to the inside of the trunk and his front facing the hole so he could watch for monsters the entire night. Like the stranger had said, it wasn’t the most ideal of places to stay, but it was something.
“There isn’t, it’s at least a day and a half journey back to the closest city, Provo.”
"From your reaction I guess it's safe to say you haven't seen anything that looks like me right little Hyur?"
No, he hadn’t seen anything like her before. Seeing that he had made it obvious, a light blush spread across his cheeks and he shook his head quickly. “No, I, uh, haven’t.” Not in his entire life. It was strange, and he liked it because that meant something new. Discoveries were what drove him, uncovering new things and understanding them. His mother had encouraged it, and so had his father, although his opinion matter less than hers did. What she called him near the end made him pause, and voice in a thoroughly befuddled voice, “Hyur? What’s that?”
Another new word, another new thing that was invading his mind and settling in. There were many of them, and from how people that arrived here came with varying cultures and different backgrounds, he suspected that there were more to come. He’d have to make a note of it when he got back to Provo.
"From whence do you hail?"
She seemed nicer, the lizard-woman, so Hope decided that maybe it was okay to tell the truth. She wasn’t going to bite his head off (He hoped), and there wasn’t any reason to not be friendly since she seemed to enjoy talking. “From Cocoon,” he answered, “It’s like a floating world, above Gran Pulse.”
Hope had answered her, so maybe; “Where are you from?” Maybe she would answer him in kind.
There was the sound of growling, and for a moment Hope would’ve thought it was a monster. She conversed with her stomach a bit though, and Hope lightly grinned, a weak sort of thing that showed his amusement. He hopped to walk after her, his small legs propelling him forward in a solid attempt to keep up.
"So, lead the way to wherever kiddo, I'll chop up anything that gets in our way and turn it in to a miq'abob."
“Alright, then.” He agreed. Another bodyguard on another mission. This was becoming a normal occurrence, for him. Like the world didn’t think he could take two steps without getting eaten. Or maybe he was just a babysitter. Or a guide—yeah, Hope liked to think he was a real good guide. “If you do that, then I’ll heal whenever you need it. We should be able to make good time getting there.”
“I’m on a request. To scout the area and check out the monster population.”
"Ahh I see. Does the job pay good?" She may as well ask since she might need to find work along the way to wherever civilization was.
“There isn’t, it’s at least a day and a half journey back to the closest city, Provo.” Okay so, Provo would be where she'd be trekking too. If it took a day and a half to journey there she might need to add in direction and possible fights along the way since she didn't do stealth very well. So maybe four or five days give or take one. This wasn't going to be good, at least not for her health.
“No, I, uh, haven’t.” She chuckled.
“Hyur? What’s that?”
"A Hyur is a person like you, they don't have any distinctive features usually, I guess they're a race or species where I'm from..." She blinked for a moment and rubbed her forehead. She sounded a little put out at the end but it didn't last for long.
“From Cocoon, it’s like a floating world, above Gran Pulse.” That sounded a little like somewhere she knew but she couldn't remember it. It was foggy.
“Where are you from?” She stopped for a moment just to look at him but she didn't answer just yet. First her stomach had growled and then she was setting off on the road to this Provo place.
“Alright, then. If you do that, then I’ll heal whenever you need it. We should be able to make good time getting there.” She offered him a smile, this sounded like a rather good arrangement to her.
"Sounds like a good deal to me. I'll make sure to piss off the enemies enough that they won't even look at you.... But about where I'm from?... I wish I knew Hope... I wish I knew... If I knew, maybe I'd have a chance of finding my way home... But something tells me, it's far away now." She explained her smile faded and instead a rather deep frown crossed her features.
"But let's keep moving and get you too where you need to go. Once we're there, you can go wherever you're going and I'll travel. I need to see if anyone knows who I am. If anyone can help me fill in this gigantic gap in my mind. I barely remember anything. All I have, and this is going to sound nuts, but all I really have right now is this dark spirit sharing this body of mine telling me this place isn't home." Doesn't really seem to like people very much either.
Just had to tell someone didn't you? We may have to kill this child if he decides to turn on us.
"But hey, just gotta keep going till I either remember or I find answers. Either works for me." The horned woman smiled again. She couldn't afford to lose hope, not yet, not ever. Who knows she might have a family, friends, waiting for her somewhere.
"So, is Cocoon part of this place? I mean... I don't see a bit floating place in the sky..." She asked as she looked up.
"Or maybe... Hm... Not from this world maybe? That seems... Odd... Yet not too out of the question to be honest. I have to keep an open mind right now or I'm not going to find any answers." A light giggle and she slowed her pace a little so the boy could keep up. Hopefully he wouldn't end up lagging behind, though if he did she'd go back for him regardless. She wasn't one for leaving people who tried to offer a little help behind.
"Hey... Out of curiosity... Do you happen to have a map I could take a look at? Y'know to see where we are? Might need you to point out where places are on it of course but... If the view from here is anything to go by, I hope to whatever Gods there are here, that Provo isn't in the snow. I seem to have a dislike of snow... For some reason, not sure why but I'm sure I'll remember eventually." She nodded and then rolled her shoulders. Hopefully they wouldn't run in to anything huge but even if they did she had a feeling she wouldn't be afraid of it. It was almost as though she felt like she'd slain giant beasts before.
Primals, you've slain primals. With a little help of course but other beasts you've felled alone. So escorting this guide of yours shouldn't be too much of a problem simply use your pain as a means for your strength. She blinked a couple of times and frowned, honestly? She wished that spirit wouldn't do that, just suddenly start talking. It was rather strange to think her body was shared by someone else.
"Do you like this Provo place? Are the people there nice? How long do you reckon it'd take me to get there without a map or compass? Or better yet do they have anywhere I can live there temporarily and work? I'm gonna need money if I'm to survive. If it takes a while to get to civilization I may need to hunt something so we can cook it and eat. Any idea what monsters and beasts are edible?" Of course, right to the fact she needed food, she could only ignore her stomach for so long after all and once more it protested immediately after she was done speaking. Apparently, her body was crying out for sustenance but she wasn't providing it with what it wanted. A sigh erupted from her, and she took a glance around.
"Okay so I may need to hunt something sooner rather than later unless you have some food stuffs on your person. If not? Well, it'll be time for me to chop up some beasties for omnoms. How good are you at fighting? Not that I'll need you too do so but I'm a little more concerned about your safety alone, though being able to heal yourself has its advantages." She'd stopped walking, the chink of her armor had stopped signalling this and she was waiting. She'd wait for answers first before moving on. Or maybe she could give the kid that bastard sword that was laying in her inventory she had no use for it with this big fucker she was using.

"Ahh I see. Does the job pay good?"
“Well enough,” Hope said with something akin to a sigh. It could be better, it seemed to say. But who was to argue about gil in their pocket, when some had none?
"A Hyur is a person like you, they don't have any distinctive features usually, I guess they're a race or species where I'm from..." So a different term for human, it seemed. If wherever she’d come from had a different name for that, then there were probably a lot more differences in the language as well.
He heard her tone feel like it kinda dropped, and looked up at her as he trotted along. She guessed? It seemed that something was bothering her, and he didn’t have an idea as to what. When she didn’t answer his question as to where she’s from immediately, he tacked it on to the things that seemed off about the stranger.
The smile Razz gave him told him that she agreed with the arrangement, and Hope looked at the path once again. If she wanted to talk about it, then she could. He wasn’t going to pry into anyone’s business that wasn’t his own. Even if she was very interesting, and someone he’d like to learn more about. He still wasn’t getting over the horns and the tail.
"Sounds like a good deal to me. I'll make sure to piss off the enemies enough that they won't even look at you.... But about where I'm from?... I wish I knew Hope... I wish I knew... If I knew, maybe I'd have a chance of finding my way home... But something tells me, it's far away now."
“But let's keep moving and get you too where you need to go. Once we're there, you can go wherever you're going and I'll travel. I need to see if anyone knows who I am. If anyone can help me fill in this gigantic gap in my mind. I barely remember anything. All I have, and this is going to sound nuts, but all I really have right now is this dark spirit sharing this body of mine telling me this place isn't home."
So that was it. She didn’t remember where her home was. Hope, he was far away from home too. But at least he could remember where home was, or more like, what home was. Here was someone that seemed to have trouble recalling… just about anything. So that’s what it was. Hope licked his bottom lip nervously, cornered by the topic. It hit close to his own problem about not being home, although he wasn’t in the same depth.
The spirit in the body thing made him shoot her a questioning look, though. Was she sure it just wasn’t a mental thing? There were medical conditions with some of the same things she was talking about, after all. He didn’t voice it out loud though. He read somewhere that people like that could be dangerous if you approached them with the topic of addressing the illness. Maybe he should search through his books to see if he could find something more about it, in case he met her again after all of this.
"But hey, just gotta keep going till I either remember or I find answers. Either works for me."
“So, is Cocoon part of this place? I mean... I don't see a bit floating place in the sky... Or maybe... Hm... Not from this world maybe? That seems... Odd... Yet not too out of the question to be honest. I have to keep an open mind right now or I'm not going to find any answers."
“If you search enough, maybe you’ll find someone else here that remembers you here as well.” He said, adding on to the optimistic turn with something she had said just a moment earlier. He didn’t seem as down anymore, not with the turn in mood that she seemed to have. It was easy for him to be swayed, it seemed. But then, in a way, she felt familiar in her own way. Not like the, ‘I know you,’ but ‘you remind me of someone’.
“It's not from this world,” He agreed, the small grin sticking like it’d frozen on his face. “We both seem to be a long ways from home. A lot of people are, in fact. I’ve met a few here and there, you’ll find them if you walk around enough. They tend to stick out.” Like a sore thumb, the lot of them. Some don’t even try to be discreet, and make noise across the entire continent like a herd of elephants.
For some reason, not sure why but I'm sure I'll remember eventually."
Any idea what monsters and beasts are edible?"
“I have one I’m drawing now,” He said while he reached down to open up his pocket again. Flicking the button, he reached inside and pulled the folded piece of paper out. Holding it out to her, he continued in a voice that seemed to slowly get more, and more excited. Things like this were comfortable topics, things he knew a lot about from studying hours every day. “No, Provo is down south. I haven’t tried going further than this before. In fact, this is the farthest I’ve gone since I’ve been here. It’s actually a pretty nice temperature most of the time, though it gets quite a bit of rain at times. If you like warmer areas, there’s a desert to the west. The local people call it Reikinto Sands. I’ve been, and there’s a large population of monsters there, it seems. If you ask around, someone might pay you to take some out.” He was most certain they would, in fact. The natives of Zephon weren’t shy about asking newcomers for help.
“There’s plenty of jobs, you just gotta get to them, you know? Zephon has no shortage of monsters. Monster-eating wise, I believe that if you stay away from the plant-monsters, most monsters here are edible. There’s the occasional odd one out, but you should be fine if you want to survive off the wildlife. As for getting to Provo, I’m heading there myself. It’s where I’ve been staying, and the people are real nice.” He made sure to address the food question first, especially after hearing her stomach make the noise that it did.
"Okay so I may need to hunt something sooner rather than later unless you have some food stuffs on your person. If not? Well, it'll be time for me to chop up some beasties for omnoms. How good are you at fighting? Not that I'll need you too do so but I'm a little more concerned about your safety alone, though being able to heal yourself has its advantages."
“I don’t have anything to eat,” Hope admitted. He’d been living off of plants, as thin as he was already. Hunting monsters wasn’t his good point, and carrying around food was just asking to get attacked. He was avoiding that, of course, so no food. “I’m pretty good, I can take care of myself while you find something to eat.” He’d survived this long. Kid or not, Hope was pretty sneaky when it came to keeping himself alive these days.
“Well enough,” Oh so it was that sort of thing was it?
“If you search enough, maybe you’ll find someone else here that remembers you here as well.” That would be nice, she tried to recall names and faces but the words died in her throat and the images died before she could put color to them. There were a few fragments though. White hair, goggles, Cid. Zest. Lumi. Aurora. Alphinaud. Aymeric. She could at least recall these names but did they mean anything to her other than names? She looked down for a moment. Honestly? These names stirred something especially one or two. Perhaps that was because of the bonds she once shared? The mind may have forgotten, but the heart? That did not forget so easily. She... Wished they were okay whoever they were. Prayed they weren't worried if they were indeed friends of hers.
“It's not from this world,” She snapped out of her little daydream of course one that prompted her optimism.
“We both seem to be a long ways from home. A lot of people are, in fact. I’ve met a few here and there, you’ll find them if you walk around enough. They tend to stick out.” A lot of people who aren't from this world, all of them being dumped here? Something seemed very... Off about that. It couldn't be coincidence, there was absolutely no way. Something was off and she'd been dragged in to it somehow.
“I have one I’m drawing now,” She arched a brow now a smile forming on her face for a moment.
If you ask around, someone might pay you to take some out.” She blinked, lots of information to take in but she did take it in and retain it she would since there wasn't anything else in her memory right now apart from a few names and possibly faces.
"Hm. Sounds a bit like the sagolii... Sagolii... What's a Sagolii.... I guess it's a desert... If I'm comparing it to somewhere that is a desert." She scratched her head a bit near her chipped horn. She seemed pretty happy really and her tail swayed about behind her as she looked at the drawn map.
It’s where I’ve been staying, and the people are real nice.” Monster hunting? She could do that easily.
"Well, I guess I'll give the monster hunting a bash, if not I have other skills, weaving, mining, botany so I might be able to help you where plants are concerned?" She explained and then she rubbed the back of her neck.
"If you're headed to Provo, I guess I'll go with you. I'll need some place to set up a base of operations and from the sounds of it, that seems like a good place to go." Base of operations? What would she call it? Cobalt Claw had a nice ring to it but why oh why did it seem so familiar?
“I don’t have anything to eat,”
"Well that sucks a load of hairy balls." She grumbled. Oh well, it just meant she could go murderlize some monsters and make a nice stew out of them. If only they had a fire and cooking pot. Actually come to think of it, didn't she have her hammer somewhere and some metal? She could make a copper pot and make a nice stew.
“I’m pretty good, I can take care of myself while you find something to eat.”
"All right firstly though. Let's move some rocks, not sure how long we have left till nightfall and it'd be stupid to leave ourselves with nothing safe." She went and started moving rocks, the ones she couldn't move she cut with her blade and then moved, she was making what looked like some sort of makeshift shelter. Sure it wasn't very skilled work but it was sturdy and it could take a knock or five before falling down. It'd keep the rain off, keep the wind off and stave off the chill. That was all she was looking to do. Then she moved some flatter larger ones around in a circle and made a small hole in the middle which she surrounded with more stones. Sitting down she pulled her hammer, some metal and she got to work making something. A pot, yes this was a lot of hard work but she didn't seem to care, she was doing what needed to be done.
"You grab some fire wood now this is done. I'll get some water with the pot, we'll need to boil it to make sure it's clean. But while you're off grabbing firewood try and see if you can get some plants that're good for eating and a couple of thicker wood blocks. I can make us a couple of makeshift bowls and with the meat I bring back we can have a stew hopefully. If I ain't back in say thirty minutes don't worry too much. If you get back before I do? Grab some leaves or whatever would be good for bedding." She smiled, she may not be the best cook in the world but she knew how to work with little. Off she went with her sword, leaving Hope on fire wood duty.
A sigh escaped her as she strolled off alone. She was monster hunting and she was damn good at it. In fact the first monster she spotted on her small journey she assaulted mercilessly. Slaughtering it without a second thought other than 'This'll taste good I hope', then she moved on to the next one before she headed to a water source. Filling the pot first, she set it aside, then she gutted the two carcasses, beheadded them and skinned them, cut some of the pieces of meat off and made sure that the meat was a decent coloration. Taking a little more she now left the carcasses there, mostly so the scent of blood would draw beasts that way rather than up the bloody mountain.
Off she went up the mountain path back to the small camp with plenty of meat. She still had some paprika, black pepper, table salt, sagolii sage (though it was rather dry) and a small jar of chicken stock. Sure she couldn't eat these alone, but with them she could make some sort of stew. If only she had carrots and parsnips, she did however have some mushrooms and, wait, a single popoto? What the hell had she planned on doing with that when she was at home? Baked popoto maybe? Actually that sounded lovely with some blue cheese. Headed back to the camp she set the water down and she used some thread she had to string the meats up so they didn't get dirtied.
"A lot of work for a meal eh? Now... Where's Hope?" She murmured. She hadn't had much trouble. Perhaps he had? She really hoped he hadn't.

"Well, I guess I'll give the monster hunting a bash, if not I have other skills, weaving, mining, botany so I might be able to help you where plants are concerned?" Razz seemed to be capable of doing just about everything. Mining? Botany? She was like her own one-woman factory. If she was good at botany, then maybe him asking her for a few pointers would be okay? Later, of course, when they were feeling better and had settled down in a safer position. A sitting position where he could take out his notebook and write it all down.
"That's be a real big help, thanks."
"If you're headed to Provo, I guess I'll go with you. I'll need some place to set up a base of operations and from the sounds of it, that seems like a good place to go." That was reassuring; and nice—very nice. Hope was glad that she would go the whole way with him. It gave him more time to possibly learn from her. He wasn’t aiming at anything to do with the sword—that’d be insane. But everything else seemed like good topics of conversation.
“There’s lots of good places to set up, if you want, I might be able to point you to a few. If you can’t anywhere yourself, I mean.” He wondered just what a base of operations would entail; was she going to set up a business with all those skills that she had or something? It sounded like a good idea though, something that would get her organized. Was it for the people she was looking for as well, maybe? That could be it.
"Well that sucks a load of hairy balls."
Hope felt bad about not having anything to offer her at the moment, his hand moving to the back of his head to mess with the wild-layered silver hair that stuck up in the back. “Sorry about that,” Maybe he should start carrying something on him, in case this happened again. He seemed to have everything but food, and that was kind of… weird. Yeah, very.
"All right firstly though. Let's move some rocks, not sure how long we have left till nightfall and it'd be stupid to leave ourselves with nothing safe."
Then Razaphale started moving, shifting rocks in the area into what seemed to be a makeshift shelter for the night. If Hope had any manly pride, it’d be in smithereens at the moments. Sadly enough, he’d given up on holding any real physical strength a long time ago. Some things just weren’t to be. The boy looked around, seeming at a loss as to what to do as she pulled her—tools? Yes, and started to make a… well he couldn’t tell at the moment. "You grab some fire wood now this is done. I'll get some water with the pot, we'll need to boil it to make sure it's clean.” Oh, so that was a pot. Hope glanced over it again, in awe of the quick workmanship. Yes, Razz was indeed a woman of very many talents. He wondered just how long she’d spent working on them, and how hard it was. With how she seemed to take to the situation, he didn’t think that it might have been all that difficult, but who knows.
“But while you're off grabbing firewood try and see if you can get some plants that're good for eating and a couple of thicker wood blocks. I can make us a couple of makeshift bowls and with the meat I bring back we can have a stew hopefully. If I ain't back in say thirty minutes don't worry too much. If you get back before I do? Grab some leaves or whatever would be good for bedding."
Sounded easy enough. “Firewood, plants, and uh, wood blocks? I’ll see what I can do.” Firewood wouldn’t be a problem, nor the plant. The wood blocks however… how was he going to manage that? Not wanting to disappoint her though, his head bobbed up and down in agreement. “Alright then.”
Leaving the camp, Hope would stop ever so often and search for dry wood on the not-so-much-a-path he was taking. Some there… some here… “Ugh, how can a bug have that many eyes?” Hope said as he shook off a particularly large size piece of wood. It might be what Razz needed to make the bows, or a bowl. There wasn’t really all that much to it, so he’d have to find another before long.
He kneeled down, setting all the wood on his legs as he shifted through some grass, “Any here…? Nope…” A sigh followed as he made to stand up, but it was swallowed down before it could escape and make any more noise than it had.
Because Hope had heard something. “Razz…?” He softly spoke out, huddling the wood close to his chest as his feet slowly turned him around. Too quiet; the warrior didn’t seem like one to pull tricks, and the eyes that he felt on him… they didn’t feel all that nice. Another branch broke, and Hope flinched away from it as he slid his foot across the ground, taking a step back towards the direction of their camp.
One second… two…. By three he had already started running, the whatever it was emerging from the shadows of the trees and grass to pounce on the area he had just been standing in. It was hot in pursuit soon afterwards, and Hope let out a loud yell of, “Ra—aaaaa-zz!!”
Moments later, he fell into the camp on his face, wood scattering about as he took his tumble. Right behind him, the source of his sudden harried retreat:
As she waited and arched a brow, the kid didn't seem like the type to just run away, not when he had no food and there was a meal in store for him. So maybe he'd run in to trouble while finding firewood? Damn maybe she should've taken him with her after all. Then she heard it. Rustling, from the foliage that was actually around and then out came Hope.
"Hey are you all ri-" She stopped mid-sentence as the beast that followed came bounding out after him. A frown.
"If you were gonna bring food back, I'd have just taken you with me Hope." She grinned, a rather malicious smile spread across her face as she looked at the beast.
"Y'know." A provoke. "If you really want something tasty, I'd hazard a bet I have more meat on me than him. So bring it on beastie, may the hungrier and stronger win." She lifted a single hand, launching herself upwards before a black, purple and red sigil rotated around her wrist and three small blindingly fast orbs shot out from three different points on the sigil. They curved around and blasted the beast on three sides of its head before it started after her.
"I'll be back in a minute! Here catch!" She tossed the boy a fire shard.
"Use that to get the fire started! It's a fire shard just toss it in the wood pile and it'll spark up!" She mused with a grin as she charged off with the monster in tow, the last thing Hope would've seen was a big black circle appearing under her feet as she slammed her blade in the ground, blackened claws came up from all sides like jaws to maul the beast and annoy it even more.
She was running off with the thing chasing her down. The reason why? Well, that smell of blood would attract other less friendly monsters to their make shift camp and screw them fucking up her temporary home. Turning darkside on as she ran and then grit she made sure that she could sustain.
Lashing out with two swings of her blade, a hard slash, with black residue left behind, the swings were slow, one across and then back again before she chained in a second skill, and then a third and final one one that required she blast it in the face with a single thick shot of darkness. Something that it really didn't like. It actually tried to escape at the point that she was running out of magical energy thanks to darkside. But before it could get any further she rushed it jumped on it and slammed her blade in to its skull, she was barbaric, brutal and she didn't care. It attacked Hope who likely didn't poke it with a stick.
Predators, Hope had been friends with a bigger predator it seemed. One that was stronger than this one. Once it laid down dead she cleaved off some meat from its carcass. Then she carried it back but she did have a rather nasty cut across her face, if it weren't for her scales it probably would've cut her throat as well. It also seemed that one of its claws got under her armor as her midriff was a bit cut as well. Wiping the blood from her face as she made her way back to the small camp she used a couple of water shards to clean the meats and she smiled at Hope.
"See... No problem." She murmured as she sat herself down on a slab of rock. Well it was better than nothing.
"Now then. Guess I should make a blanket and something to lay on. You'll get to rest first. Then I'll rest second." By that she meant he would sleep and she wouldn't. She'd had plenty of sleep after all.
"So Hope. I guess if we ever end up doing this again we'll just have to stick together. Y'know. Cause it wouldn't really sit well with me if someone who was pretty decent to me ended up dead. 'Cause of my lack luster way of keepin' 'em safe."

"If you were gonna bring food back, I'd have just taken you with me Hope."
“I-I must have,” he pushed himself up off of the ground, wheezing a bit. The fall had knocked the breath out of him, and the sticks that had taken it with him had jabbed his ribs and stomach in the most uncomfortable way. “some sort of smell that attracts them, I don’t know what it is.” Trying to not look all that offended about being called less meaty than Razz, Hope stood up and got a gathering of what she was doing just at the last second. It was fast paced, their tradeoff.
"I'll be back in a minute! Here catch!" It came towards him quite suddenly, and he juggled to catch it with his butterfingers. "Use that to get the fire started! It's a fire shard just toss it in the wood pile and it'll spark up!" Fire? This? This little, whatever it was, fire shard?—was capable of making a fire? He didn’t get to ask her that, as the Dark Knight sprinted out of camp and left him in the dust, fire shard and all. So, she’d gotten a Bandersnatch, and he was stuck with fire responsibility.
How does this work? …. Well, she did say to just toss it in there. Hope nudged the sticks he had gathered into the pile, minus the large chunk he had picked up along the way. Eyes back on the shard, Hope would wonder if this would actually work—it didn’t seem all that likely. His shoulders went up, shrugging, and the shard sailed through the air in a slow arc, hitting the wood with a ‘tink!’. The shard seemed to react with it, and with a poof, the logs caught on fire. He had expected something to happen, but the sudden of appearance of fire still startled him, almost sending him back down on his rear end as he scrambled back to not get licked by the ruby element.
“W-whoa..!!” The second time he’d been rendered speechless, and only able to form that one word, today. His knees bent, and more-elegantly than a moment ago, Hope would sit down and pull them up to his chest. They looked to be real flames—and the heat coming from them confirmed that it wasn’t an illusion. Just how had that tiny little thing been able to start a fire? It was amazing, he’d have to ask her more about them when she got back.
When she got back from defeating the monster he’d run away from. Hope groaned and pushed his face into his knees, a dark cloud falling over him. It had surprised him and—well, his arms had been full. But that didn’t give him an excuse. Something like that, he should be able to turn around and try to take care of it himself. He should be, the ability was there, somewhat, but Hope… he’d been scared, his first reaction being to get to someone who wasn’t.
Someone with strong shoulders and their head held high—marching forward without a second thought because they could, and they were strong, so strong, and he couldn’t even fathom comparing to her, no matter how much he chased. But that was okay, because—
"See... No problem."
Hope’s head snapped up, the remaining static of the memory being shoved to the side as what was truly there in front of him occupied his attention. Like a startled rabbit, he had begun to push himself up, but stopped when he realized that it was just Razaphale returning from taking care of the monster, its meat with her. Eyes searching, Hope looked over her as she settled back down, trying to find anything terribly wrong. Nothing fatal, she wasn’t bleeding all over the place, and she didn’t seem to out of order…
"Now then. Guess I should make a blanket and something to lay on. You'll get to rest first. Then I'll rest second."
“E-eh?” He opened his mouth to object, but fell short. What could he say? They were going to take turns, but he… well, he thought that maybe, because she had to take care of the monster, she might be a little tired. That might or might not insult her, so Hope deigned to stare at her, his cheeks still pale from the encounter and it’s aftereffects that followed behind it. “A-alright then…”
"So Hope. I guess if we ever end up doing this again we'll just have to stick together. Y'know. Cause it wouldn't really sit well with me if someone who was pretty decent to me ended up dead. 'Cause of my lack luster way of keepin' 'em safe."
“I’m sorry about that,” Hope hastily put in, looking quite put-out by the whole ordeal. “I-I… me too. At least… I’ll try to watch out for you too, next time.” Though… he guessed that she really didn’t need it. At least, it didn’t look like she did, but Hope, he could try. If he did, then… would he get stronger? Being around all these people that could fight for themselves, could Hope learn how to do that too, by standing beside them, and watching their backs?
He leaned back, laying on his side facing the fire. The unpleasantness that had been bubbling in his stomach was slowly ebbing away, soothed by the outcome of the fight between her and the monster, and that they were safe, for the moment.
