BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
Oh dear, he was just getting bodied, wasn't he? Finding himself surrounded on all sides, he raised his hands, waving a bit. "One at a time, please." Yes, he was quite popular, wasn't he? He supposed he should answer everyone, at least as best as he can, as he more or less ignored the issue he was having with the computer to focus on mostly everyone else. "To begin with the one who treats me like a decent human being..." Yes, Lady Hilda was nothing but polite, so he bowed respectfully. Regardless of status, he was just relieved to have something close to an ally in this. "The pleasure is all mine, my lady. It is encouraging to know I will have at least one other civilized companion in this tower." He dipped his head as well, before raising back up. Right, that took care of one, that left the two others.
Folding his hands behind his back, one covering the wrist of the other, he slouched a bit. "As for the Doman..." He raised a brow. The hue of this man's soul was familiar, in an ancient way. This was an Amaurotine, that much he knew. Beyond that however, he knew not who the original soul was, and he doubted it had been anyone close. "Yes, I did attempt to revive him through Arcane means. One might wonder that in a new world..." And he trailed off, allowing the Doman to make his own conclusions. "Alas, I had the same result you would expect." Nothing concrete had been said, after all. Perhaps he would see through the veil, or perhaps be lost in its mists. Neither made a difference in the end.
And then there was Caius. Emet-Selch wheeled about, smelling opportunity. "And, as for our dear Dragelion..." He craned his head up to look at the tall man. He'd seen taller, he'd been taller, but still, Caius was one to stand out in a crowd. "The crystal was a catalyst for an ongoing time loop. With its removal, the loop could not be perpetuated. You're quite welcome." Of course, he didn't know that at the time, but well, it would work out, right? "And may I say I don't appreciate the continued slander. If that's something you wish to try your hand at, you may be out of your depth, my boy." Namely, when you had to deal with a court of intrigue, especially for as something as unpopular as oh, turning a republic into a dictatorial empire, yeah.
Yeah.
He looked back to Hilda, his head craning over his shoulder. "I am doing my best, my lady. But cooperation requires both parties, I'm afraid, and I really do not wish to be slandered repeatedly." His gaze returned to Caius, an insufferable smirk plastered on his lips. "Alas, it seems Miss Chere is the one who does all the work that gives your organization its reputation. I would guess a brute like you just sees her as eye candy, no? Between your organizations' recent acquisitions, 'twould seem you just have a type for beautiful maidens of blonde hair and blue eyes. It would explain why you picked this job, seeing as Lady Hilda fits that same description, mayhaps you wished to add her to your, ah... collection?" What was Caius's button? Probe, see what he reacted to. What was Caius going to do, cap him? No, if he had to guess, he expected Caius to just laugh it off or something. Whether or not he fumed beneath the laughter would be key.
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
Emet-Selch stared at Dragelion with a wry smirk as the man felt the need to make some sort of quip. One of those types, eh? "Oh, I wouldn't say that just yet. One wrong step, and there may yet be one young, strong body. Not for no reason that many have met their end here, no?" After all, this place could be dangerous. There was a chance that none--well, none but him anyway, would be going home this day. Things changed a little bit when the death of the flesh was an absolute non issue. His immortality was that of the soul, he was no regenerator, but far more transcendent. Ah, but that soliloquy would be delayed as his attention was grabbed by Keimusho, who had clearly recognized him, and well, he was running wild with that recognition. Was the jig up in some ways? Oh dear.
Ah, the Au'ra was Doman. The fury coming from the man made that obvious enough. Emet-Selch made a soft snorting sound as he shrugged lightly. Well, at least he didn't need to introduce himself. Not to the people here. Just his luck, eh? Along with someone who recognized him, there was that one fellow, Caius Dragelion. Oh, he'd heard of him. The man was making quite the name for himself in this world, and Emet-Selch knew all too well what path those types of people would walk, given the chance. At the very least, the noblewoman would make for decent company. She didn't seem to come already predetermined to detest him, and she seemed cultured enough. Still, he would respond to the shinobi. "Yes, yes. 'Tis I, Solus zos Galvus, founder of Garlemald." He rolled his eyes before answering Mu's question before Caius. "As for what our dear friend Dragelion means, during that mystery of de Lune, I absconded with his body and tried to revive the man. To no avail, I might add."
Well, okay, that wasn't the entire story. But yes, he did in fact try to revive the man. That part was actually completely true. It's just he was also responsible for more shenanigans regarding that entire night. "But it was best that I said nothing on that front at the time. To say I could do it and then fail would have accomplished nothing save to raise the butler's spirit and then dash it completely. A tad cruel, don't you think?" Granted, that wasn't his thought process at the time, but he felt that if nothing else, raising the poor man's hopes would have been awful. Fandaniel may have enjoyed such wanton cruelty, but Emet-Selch did not. Even then, Fandaniel's crystal had been irreparably damaged. There was only so much that could be done to any shard raised up.
But the disdain and indifference gave way to a wry smirk, as his eyes trailed to Caius. "Though I suppose I should behave. Aside from being flanked by two up-and-coming Warriors of Light, well, 'twould not do for our group to splinter before it's even formed. Especially when the Lady has business to conduct." If those two became a problem, he would deal with them. But for now, he gave a courteous bow to Lady Hilda. He'd at least keep some measure of decorum as the group entered into the tower. It was majestic, a sight worthy of song, no doubt. Were that his eyes able to meet such wonders with the wonder it deserved. His introduction was finished, and with them inside, he was able to focus his attention on the machine.
"Allow me, my Lady." He remarked, pressing the yes. Was the inquiry to be entered vocally? Worth a shot. He thought for a moment and then entered his inquiry. "If you could please show us to the Ocular, that would be appreciated. Thank you." He doubted this would be identical or even greatly similar to the Crystal Tower he had wrought, but he had hoped there'd be enough similarities that he could reasonably navigate the place. And for that, well, the Ocular was an important area of the tower.

BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
Really, it should have been expected that, at this moment, this most crucial moment, that Hades would reveal himself. Appearing quietly behind G'raha, he simply raised his revolver to the Exarch's back before... "Pow." His voice came out softly instead, as the gun was lowered and put away. His lips curled into a slight, amused smirk. "One would think you would learn after the first time, Exarch." One of these days the man was going to get himself killed because he got too engrossed in the moment, he was sure of it. Either that or find some idiotic cause to sacrifice himself for. The Ascian sauntered on over to the side, leaning his back against the old tomes stacked neatly in the shelf. "Here you are. Severed from the Crystal Tower. Isolated from everyone else. In a place none but you even know about. With everything I'm looking for."
In short, it was a bad spot. At least until Hades gave a shrug and chuckled. "Something tells me you have a tendency to give our mutual friend quite the fright." He wondered how Alexander or Cassandra dealt with it. Perhaps they had come to expect it? Or did it still seize their heart for that briefest of beats? "Fortunately for you, I'm not here for anything like that. Lahabrea would have happily jumped on this opportunity, but I am not so violent." He looked at the area around them, the writings on the table, before perking a brow. "Well, what do we have here." He remarked. So the Exarch had found it before him after all. A pity, that. Still, he could work with it. He'd not have it said that he didn't make any attempt at collaboration or cooperation. At least he didn't shoot the guy.
Oh, right, that left one other, minor issue. "Oh, the manor is on fire, by the by, courtesy of a garish man in red, red, and more red. It would make for an awfully convenient way to cover one's guilt, would it not? You may wish to go resolve that before everything and potentially everyone is lost." And all this burns down. Wouldn't that be a waste if no one got the prize? He looked at the notes and the thousand thousand books surrounding the two of them. "Well, go on, then. Go save the day, I shall be here when you return." He'd just keep himself busy in the meantime, as she gave G'raha a slight smirk. He had an idea of what to expect.
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
They split up.
There were new souls he hadn't bothered to track down.
Perfect.
It would begin simply. Once again taking on the ravaged illusion of Jules, he simply sent another shade, this time to where Keimusho, Genesis, and Emma were waiting. There the ravaged shade of Jules would appear once again, right beside Primrose, his head leaning back as another ghastly wail exited his lips. "The cat man... The cat man... The cat man...!" It was a shout directed at no one in particular, and really didn't mean anything on its own, well, out of context. But when you had a murder mystery going about and the deceased tended to show up and start shouting, well... Emet was enjoying himself, at least for the moment. And then the visage began to collapse towards Primrose, vanishing just before any contact. Because hey, if he's going to be doing this, why not give her a little fright? It was just a bit of fun. Granted, this might spook her a bit.
And then again, just one more time. The shade appeared, this time with Vincent, Lumina, and Susan. It stood, ghastly for just a moment, before twisting its head to stare at Lumina, before a loud, shrill wail emanated from it for a few moments before it vanished. No, no. No need to say anything at this point, at this point, he just needed the multiple parties to all be able to confirm that at some point, a vision of the deceased had in fact appeared for them. From there, it might be possible to simply... put the rest together, yes? Content with his newfound meddling, Hades dropped the glamour once the shade was safely vanished, chuckling lightly. Hythlodaeus would be proud. Back in the time of Amaurotine, Hades was far too much of a grouch to take part in simple play like this.
Still, there wasn't much else he could really do with the books on the shelf. Maybe he could figure out something once this was over. Or perhaps even beforehand. Who said he was a grinch? He chuckled lightly, looking more closely at some of the notes in the meantime. Well, it seemed like he had more to do, once this was over. It had been a while since he'd seen Cissnei, perhaps go say hi to her once this was over? She was one who enjoyed the danger of it all, he wondered for a moment, perhaps she was right at home here.
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
And so mighty Emet-Selch strolled up to meet the two already present. Oh, he'd already taken a few shortcuts to get there, but he'd not let them see that. In his hand he held a simple revolver, yet wore all his regalia. His third eye was readily apparent as was the skunk stripe. Everyone else was dressed so much more practically than he, not that he really needed it. Most acted pragmatically in order to avoid meeting an unfortunate end, and when such a thing was of no concern to one, well, one didn't have to care. Besides, he had a gun. It could sell the appearance of someone who fought at range. Because he was not using his magic if he could avoid it. Goodness, no. That might take a modicrum of effort and he didn't really want to go through all that pain.
That and he didn't want to risk damaging the place.
No, this place was unique. It was fascinating. It reminded him of the Crystal Tower he had wrought back in the Source. What mysteries and wonders could it perpetuate, he wished to know. Could it be connected to this world, and how people came and left this world, much like Venat had? Could he use it? That was why when the notice went up, he was there, ready to actually look into it. Especially when he would supposedly not be going alone, but with three able bodied adventurers. So far two had arrived, a shinobi and a mage. Oh, he could feel the magic rolling off of her. While she was not the greatest mage he'd ever met, he knew instinctively that for many, she was not one to be trifled with.
He took a moment to look at Keimusho. Ah, an Au'ra. Judging from the outfit, armaments and all that, he was either from Doma or one of the myriad nations in time that held a similar cultural aesthetic. Perhaps he should have come as a different appearance, in hind sight. Should he have been Doman, would he have recognized Solus zos Galvus, Emperor of Garlemald and indirect subjugator of Doma? He couldn't quite remember who he'd sent for the actual job. Had it been the Black Wolf? Gaius had always been a useful pawn. A true believer in the empire and what many thought it was meant to represent. Talented in his own right, he'd have been hard to replace. Alas, so far as he knew, the man had died in Lahabrea's harebrained scheme to utilize Allagan technology to cause another calamity. It'd only been five years since the last one, perhaps a break had been warranted, Lahabrea. Years of work gone up in smoke, just like that.
The Lahabrea at the end was a far cry from the graceful and compassionate orator he once was.
"We're short one, no? I imagine they must have been held up." He shrugged. He wondered who the third person who'd be doing all the work for him was.
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
One had to admit, for two people who were supposed to be arch enemies, well, kind of, this was going surprisingly well. His lips curled upward in a smirk. "Are you sure he did not simply break it himself? 'Twould seem he fits the blonde homewrecker part." Alexander was a bit too quick to rush to violence, as much as he said he didn't want violence to be the only answer. Then again, it was the only thing he was really good at. But Emet-Selch could see the man getting into a squabble, it turning violent, and Alex destroying his own place in a moment of red hot rage. The incarnations throughout the ages generally had quirks that followed them, but each incarnation would ultimately have a different personality, and would thus be a different person.
No matter how much Emet-Selch yearned for it, Alexander was not Azem.
But where were his manners? Stepping back inside, he held the door open and ushered her in. "But yes, of course, come in." Once she stepped inside, she would notice that his office was... rather extravagant. Fine pottery, plush rugs, antiques littering the room as well. He was obviously doing extremely well for himself. Well, mostly. His success was rather moderate, and while enough to live on, it wasn't enough for this. Of course, when you could literally magic money into existence and commit massive amounts of fraud, what you could and could not afford became a non issue.
But, Alexander, right. "It's something that's always followed him, I'm afraid." Or, rather, the soul. Alex was not Azem, and it wasn't fair to say they were one in the same. But talking about it this way made it less esoteric and thus easier for Cassandra to digest, he was sure. Sitting down at his desk, he neatly folded his hands together and continued. "It's just he's always had a support group to catch him. He doesn't have that here. So it's far more apparent." In some cases, it worked out well. His friends would always catch him and his atrocious fortunes would reverse sooner or later. Other times, it killed him, and the soul would reincarnate anew.
"Now, I believe you had need of me for something?"

He'd felt it. The moment her presence even entered the city, it hadn't escaped his notice. There were a select few whose presence he could recognize immediately, and in Cassandra's case, it'd brought up a sense of drive, determination, resignation. Equal parts loved-and-mourned. His love for his people unquestioned, and in truth his mourning for them never ended. A constant anguish that yet burned in his breast, even after the passing of eons. But those closer to him, those he held closest to his heart. One by one, they had been claimed by the light, or simply scattered entirely. For all Her preaching about the light, for all Her pontificating about her counterpart and His minions of darkness, Hydaelyn could be at times a spiteful cretin. It was almost heart to believe that at one time, the being that made her core was Venat, one of their finest, and one whom he'd respected.
How was Elidibus faring, now that he no longer lived?
You carry all of the world upon your shoulders without complaint.
It was a rare occasion where rather than lounging like a disinterested cat, he simply prepared himself. He knew full well what she was here for, well, probably, anyway. Emet-Selch was ready to do business, feeling her aether approach ever closer to his abode. Something else had happened, and he doubted that it was entirely her suddenly becoming a lovestruck maiden. It'd been half a year. Well, nearly. But in the entire time she had entered this world, not once had she even entered the city of Sonora. He supposed that he was fortunate that Alexander was nowhere to be found. As much as part of him yearned to say hello to the Shepherd of the Stars, well, he and Azem were not on the best of terms in this lifetime, and it would be best to let it lie.
Just add some marshmallows...
When the knock came, he was ready, opening the door and offering the mug of freshly brewed hot chocolate. He took in her face before letting out a mild snort. So, that's who the Oracle of Light learned it from. Of course she would. He looked around, already knowing the answer as to where Alexander was; namely not here, but he'd still keep up the appearance at least. "Well, seeing as our dear friend is not here to vanquish me once more, I can only assume that not only have you not told him, but he's gotten himself into a situation he cannot fix, and so here you are." His hand spun the mug around until its handle was pointing towards Cassandra. He could feel the heat sinking into his flesh. "Take it. It's starting to burn my hand. I haven't fiddled with it, I promise." Because really, it was starting to get hot. Hotter than he liked.

BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
There she was. Silver haired, tall and powerful. Magic and death oozed off of her. Oh, she was alive, so far as he could tell, for sure. But she had a keen connection to that everlasting void that long hungered for all of life, most keenly for those who called themselves undying. But he would not be fooled by mere appearances. Before him stood an adept sorceress, perhaps not to his level, but definitely not one of the myriad existences, feeble and fragmented, in the remnants of his world. Perhaps a handful could measure up, but not many. He looked down at the table, where the purple card lay as he bit back an amused huff. Well, he had to admit, whoever the matchmaker was certainly possessed some manner of keen judgment to them. To pair up two immensely powerful beings, well, there were unique qualities to this matchmaker. Perhaps something to look into when the night was still over.
He gave her another look, her hues making themselves known. A twisted light, was the best way he could describe it. Once shining and radiant with a glowing white, spots and speckles of the dark wormed their way in and twisted it from within. She had given the name of Yunalesca, but how should he respond? He would never give his true name of Hades, goodness, no. But as he came to learn of this world, and the marvels it could facilitate, the utility of Solus and Galvus became less and less. If he were to truly commit to saving his people, then he would do so with some measure of pride. A minor reveal in the long run, perhaps. Several already knew he was here, but one would come if he heard the name he was about to give. It was only a matter of time, perhaps.
So he smiled, unmoving. He spoke up, his voice nasally and languid. "I am Emet-Selch." The title came to his tongue like a long forgotten taste. A title that held meaning to him yet had no meaning in this world. Not unless he gave it such, and he gave it that meaning of duty. But, well, no need to be so blunt about it. "And Emet-Selch means..." He paused for a moment. In truth, it meant the Architect in his native tongue, but well, why go into that? He had been one of the longest to hold the seat, the last to hold the seat, and as such, he felt that perhaps the answer was appropriate as his hands unlaced, laying flat on the table, revealing the smile. "Me." Yes, that would do.
He reached over to get the bottle opener, drilling it into the cork as he began to speak. "I must confess, I had not expected our dear host to be able to come up with a matchmaker for me, but it seems that I can still be surprised." It was an attempt at smalltalk as he finally made some progress with the damned cork. "Tell me about yourself, Lady Yunalesca. I'm sure you have plenty of stories, do you not?" One cloaked in a hue such as hers would undoubtedly have something to wile away the hours. There was a pop as the cork was pulled out, the fragrance of the wine greeting his senses. Pleasant, he could tell. A sweet vintage.
BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
He looked at the card in his hand. Well, cards, plural. Emet-Selch had been one of the few, or perhaps the only one to get two cards. One, colored in a tyrian purple. The other, white; with a number written onto it. There was some scribbling that he assumed belonged to the matchmaker beneath the number, telling him to call it, get some help. Part of him appreciated the sentiment, deep down. At least basic courtesy was not entirely lacking, but this was more something for him to kill time. And well, he had so very long to go, before he could take that final sleep. And even should he succeed, would he even want to? There was so much to work towards, and so much at stake; a golden future that walked the path of lesser tragedy; agony and sorrow averted.
And so the Architect found himself languidly lounging in his chair, twirling a pen between his fingers with a surprising amount of dexterity, especially for those who knew of his slothful nature. He decided to bring his regalia with him, the robes and furs and gold. Something that made him stand out amongst the others. He'd not deny that there was a part of him curious of who his date would be. Perhaps one small desire that was quickly quashed and suppressed. He already knew the reality of that; a daily, yet somber reminder of what had been lost day after day, and he looked at the chilled bottle of wine, as memories of better days came to him.
A group of five all together. Four in black. One carrying a basket of grapes, another laughing over the whole affair, a third giving the first no small amount of grief, and the fourth simply munching away on them. One in white, smaller than the rest, simply watching studiously, as if this was a lesson he must take to heart.
These thoughts had been coming to him more and more, lately. He placed a foot against the table and pushed back slightly, the front legs of his chair hanging in the air. All I ask, is that there may come a day when we do not say our farewells. At the time, he'd been so furious over that affair. Saving an entire island merely for the grapes. And yet, here he sat, a thousand thousand lives later, wishing for just one more moment like it. Thinking of her could bring that out of him, that melancholy nature that he tried so hard to mask.
And for his date, that just wouldn't do. So his leg slipped back down, he rested his elbows on the table, and his golden eyes took on that mischievous glint that most in this world would be more familiar with. His lips hidden behind a pair of folded hands, he waited. Just who would the matchmaker have matched him for?

BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
It's one he's seen advertised here and there. The Lament of the Faerie Queen. Apparently it's an old classic that had managed to survive the passage of time. He'd heard good things about this showing in particular. Apparently the actress was up-and-coming, no one really knew where she had come from, but she didn't lack for talent. She was set to play... what was her name, Isolda? He didn't know much about the play in itself, but he knew to pay attention. Mostly. Mostly because he only barely started turning his head when he felt someone collide with him. A little up front. Most would just clip him or something like that, mutter an apology, and be on their merry way. But there were some behavioral clues that were setting the Architect off, and despite the supposed offense, he couldn't help but find himself giving a wry smile, and perhaps even hiding a small twinkle in the eye.
It's a trick he's seen before in his thousand thousand lifetimes. The old bump and pump. Wartorn nations festering in chaos to bring the world closer to another rejoining. It's one he himself has practiced; a bumbling urchin rising from street thief to lead a mighty nation. It's also an angle that Elidibus has played as well, becoming a legendary Warrior of Light, rising from the most ignonimous of origins. That being said, Hades had to give the man props; despite his large size, he didn't really feel it taking place. His technique was something more suited for a child. Credit where it's due; a sleight of hand easily missed. He mused inwardly to himself. It required a delicate touch that was easily lost as the ravages of time shook the mortal body. Clearly, whatever this man had chosen in life, he'd kept his dexterity completely in tact.
And he seemed so nice, so why fuss?
He shrugged slightly, shaking his head serenely. "Oh, very well. As long as you know to get one for yourself, as well." If he was going to be paying, then it wouldn't do to simply drink on his own dime while his newfound guest went thirsty. "The Lament of the Faerie Queen. Heard anything about it? I've heard the actress they found for the main character is simply a sight to behold." If they were going to talk about the arts, well, why not enjoy the evening?
