BATHED BLACK IN SILENCE, OUR SURRENDER A SOMBRE REVERIE
Hades following the Tonberry's gaze as they looked outside. Watching the lamp, he stifled a yawn and rolled his shoulders, fighting the urge to stretch. He could feel the desire for a nap coming on. He could do that back home. Maybe Cassandra had something planned, he wasn't entirely sure. But his golden eyes drifted back to the small green creature as they brought up the Rancor, something that, well, shouldn't have been. At least not normally. "Really? Now that is an interesting thing to know." The brief possiblity that they could be playing a joke on him entered his mind, but it was quickly dismissed. He was starting to realize this little green friend not only had no sense of humor, he had a feeling that they had no grasp on the concept of humor to begin with, he'd have to explain it.
But they wanted to know how it was on his world, and well, that was a direct question. A shrewd one anyway, and it warranted an honest answer. Not that he'd been lying before, though. "But that is correct. Tonberries afflicted with the Rancor are reduced to mindless barbarism. On my world, anyway." But why would that be? It existed on multiple worlds but had different effects? This Tonberry had been created as is by the Water Crystal, they had said. "Perhaps it is a biological difference? You are naturally a Tonberry, created as a Tonberry, so you still have your sense of reason. The Rancor is more suited for your biological makeup. As I said, on my world, they aren't born naturally. Tonberries are warped from another type of sentient called Lalafells, mutated by the Green Death, unlike you, given birth via your Water Crystal. That would be a major difference." That and this Tonberry, regardless of their actual power or strength or aether or whatever they wished to call it, was whole and complete. Even now, all the beings on Etheirys were fragmented.
"However, I never spoke to them. As for the reasoning of my choice, I never felt a need to. Sealed away in Nym, they had no bearing on the world, ruled only by a mad king. They were irrelevant, at the time." He wouldn't answer whether or not he feared them. There was no reason to boast. Those who did often fell short. But those who wished to call Hades' bluff were welcome to test such an assumption at their earliest convenience. Or, how had Alexander put it? The words came back to him as he fought back a minor snort. Pointlessly vulgar. But Hades felt a slight change in topic would do, and one came to him easy enough. "I must confess, your earlier comment on the strings of this world are a curiosity. Could you elaborate by what you mean of the Void?" Most was easy enough, and creatures pulling their own strings were probably those that fell outside of fate.
But this Tonberry's mental approach was unique, and he would hear it. Perhaps in hearing it, it might give him a better window into the workings of this world.
