There had been roasted meat and grilled fish, medleys of pan-fried vegetables and all manner of bakery goods. Down one way, there were selections so rich on spices that it had made his nose twitch. It was all enticing for a common knight, but he couldn’t see a woman of her stature eating on a bench with a cheap plate balanced on her knee.
”They have higher class establishments a few streets down, I think.” He couldn’t remember the streets. He couldn’t remember the places either, though he thought that one had something to do with wine. He’d only glanced at the itinerary. He hadn’t left with any particular goal in mind. He was feeling the consequences of that now.

The information booth was still within sight of his charge. He kept her in his periphery as he acquired one and returned.
He handed it to her. ”That should do,” he said. ”There’s a map on the back.”
