[attr="class","ayab-text"] Her situation in life had become rather interesting. Aerith had learned that Sephiroth was also in this world, which had her questioning many things. What should she do about this revelation? In all honesty, she preferred to stay out of Sephiroth's way unless she did cross paths with him. Then she could determine how much of a threat he was for herself. The young woman had a hunch that not everything was as it seemed and that the Sephiroth brought to this world was not the one she had known. No, she felt a strong urge within her that this was the Sephiroth that Zack had told her about. The hero, the legend, and the first of the First Class SOLDIERs. Of course, she was not going to view him with rose tinted glasses, but she still wished to learn of this situation for herself. [break][break]
But that was not why she had ventured back to Torensten, though. No, she had heard rumors about a man with dark hair and vivid red eyes. Someone she knew from the description alone and that she was keen on finding if she was able to! Aerith had already reunited with Tifa and Cloud, so she was quite excited about the idea of crossing paths with Vincent once more. This city was not unfamiliar to her at least! Her previous venture here with meeting Seymour would come in handy after all! Not to mention she was quite easily spotted in her usual ensemble of pink! Where would be the most likely place to find Vincent? [break][break]
Somewhere that sold ammunition! Well, the most likely place would be an inn that he could rest in. But, well, she was a little curious to see this city's black market. Was it like Wall Market? If it was, then she was positive it was nothing she could not handle! Of course, she told herself that until she lost herself within the crowd of people. And then she had a salesman shoving some sort of weapon towards her to buy. "No, I'm fine! Really! I can take care of myself just fine! I doubt I'd be able to use a gun the right way, anyway," she declined with a laugh. Deftly, the young woman smiled and quickly disengaged from the seedy salesman. Now, what should she do first? [break][break]
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Vincent was just finishing up a little job for the Dragonblades. It wasn’t much, just following up on a lead that one of the weapons dealers in Torensten was involved in some organized crime. Apparently it was a syndicate with ties in both Torensten and Provo. But, unfortunately, the weapon shop had been deserted by the time Vincent had arrived. Apparently they’d been tipped off. Oh well, back to Celes to figure out the next move and where some of their other hideouts might be. He’d at least found a few clues in the empty shop and knew Celes would have some ideas. [break][break] He’d grabbed an iced tea from a nearby seller and decided to relax a little before returning to work. Relaxing wasn’t something Vincent was all too used to, but he was trying to do it more. Life here in Zephon was more than missions and work and saving the world all the time. And he was trying to enjoy it, just a little. Freedom from Chaos’ hold had let him live a calmer life here. Even happier. [break][break] The ex-Turk was dressed simply, much more in line with his old Turk uniform than his signature heavy black and red ensemble he’d favored after waking from his long slumber. Torensten’s heat made the belts and cloak and all that fabric just way too much. A short-sleeved dark red shirt and basic black pants were much better. And at least he’d kept the old color scheme. [break][break] Vincent walked through the twisting streets, sipping his tea, and watching the flow of people. It wasn’t even too hot today with the sun mostly hidden behind clouds. Life was surprisingly good. Maybe it was also due to the emotional weight being lifted from his shoulders after finally, after decades, telling Cissnei everything. He was lost in his thoughts when he heard a voice that brought him up short. He took a shuddering step and stared forward, towards the source. [break][break] Well. Sephiroth had come back from the dead. Who’s to say others couldn’t have? That was the thought running through his mind as he placed the cheerful, upbeat voice. His heart hitched and he remembered how he’d last seen her. Could he really be planning on forgiving Sephiroth? Even after what he’d done to her? [break][break] Aerith. Could it be?[break][break] Vincent pushed through the crowds of people, searching for the woman. Maybe it had been a figment of his imagination. But then he heard his own name from her voice, asking about him! This was no daydream! “Aerith?” he called just before he finally caught a glimpse of her. His mouth fell open. She looked just like she always had, dressed all in pink and looking endlessly optimistic and cheerful. His eyes drifted to his arm where he’d kept the pink ribbon tied even after all these years. He’d never forgotten her. [break][break] He hurried towards her, rather rudely pushing past the seedy salesman skulking behind the woman. “I had no clue you were here,” he said as he finally reached her. “It’s been so long… It’s so good to see you again.”

[attr="class","ayab-text"] A surprised gasp escaped her as she heard her name being called out as she turned around. The same, familiar baritone of a good friend and the one she had been hoping to cross paths with! Aerith felt her lips curl into a bright smile as she beheld Vincent for the first time in what seemed like forever. Gone were the heavy, crimson robes in light of something more flattering and stylish. His hair seemed to be the same, familiar mess that she had always wished to braid back for him. Her fingers even twitched as that familiar urge hit her without preamble! Bright, excited laughter filled the air as she spun on her heel fully to greet him. [break][break]
"Vincent! I'm so glad I found you!" Without hesitation, Aerith threw her arms around the taller man's midsection and hugged him tightly. He was just so much taller than her that she could not quite reach his shoulders so easily! Find another one of her friends filled her with a familiar warmth as she took a few moments to just hug him. It allowed her to realize that it was not a happy dream and truly real to her senses. After a few moments, she did pull away to glance up at him with a familiar smile. "Don't tell me it's like seeing a ghost! I asked Cloud the same thing when I met him."[break][break]
Oh, she truly hoped this would be good news for Vincent to hear as well! But her smile turned a little more somber as she realized Vincent must have believed her to be dead as well. The inflection in his voice told her as much. "I'm fine, really. What happened to me, well, it never happened in my memories. I think I was pulled here...before all of that took place." That was the best way she could explain it to him. Aerith allowed her smile to grow lighter as she waved her hand over his new appearance with excitement and happiness. "This world seems to suit you. You look so much more at peace here. I'm glad for you!"
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]It was definitely her. He knew there was no way this was a trick when she turned and faced him, looking just as she always had. The familiar smile was on her face and she sounded so happy and relieved to have found him. Vincent had barely a moment to brace himself before she threw herself against him in an all too familiar hug. He didn’t even begrudge her it this time. Not when it was so long overdue. [break][break]
Vincent let himself give into the emotion of seeing a long-dead friend returned from the grave, one who was always so endlessly selfless and kind. He let out a puff of air as she squeezed him, but he gave in easily and hugged her back. She even smelled like flowers, just as she always had. “I’ve missed you,” he found himself saying. It was the truth. He missed all of his old friends of course, but the loss of Aerith had been different. He’d had to watch her die, slain by the monster he had a hand in creating. [break][break]
She stepped back and peered up at him. “I’m glad you have no memories of it. I wish I didn’t either,” he responded softly. But that wasn’t something to dwell on. Aerith probably didn’t enjoy being constantly reminded about her death, after all. “So you’ve met Cloud?” he asked curiously instead. “I’d heard he was here as well, but haven’t run into him yet. I would certainly like to see him again as well.” Maybe Aerith would be willing to take him to see the ex-SOLDIER if she knew where he was? As long as he wasn’t in Sonora anymore. [break][break]
“Things happened on Gaia… after...”You died, he silently filled in. “I’ve had years to come to terms with the events of my past. But my time here has helped tremendously.” He stretched, feeling free from a weight he hadn’t realized he was carrying for so long. “I feel more like my old self here, back before Shinra Mansion,” he clarified. Years of pain and trauma had been lifted from him. [break][break]
“You look happy here too,” he commented. “Where’ve you been staying?”

[attr="class","ayab-text"] The quiet admittance from Vincent warmed her more than words could ever hope to convey. One more friend had been found amidst the mystery of this world and for that she was grateful. Tifa, Cloud, and now Vincent were here for her to fuss over! Aerith wished for nothing more than to bask in the quiet happiness of this moment, but they were in the middle of this crowded street where they were garnering more than a few stares. The urge to stick her tongue out at the other bystanders was strong but she ignored it for the time being. There were far more important things than merely worrying about what others were thinking or the stares that followed. [break][break]
"I'm sorry about that. I really am," Aerith murmured gently. The others had watched her die and she had no recollection of it whatsoever. It had not even happened to her before she had been pulled here. She had been in the Forgotten City about to begin her preparations to pray for Holy, but then she had fallen asleep and awakened here. There was still worry within her about the consequences of such things, though. Perhaps one day she would have to return and follow through with the steps her future self had taken. One she would do so even if it scared her beyond measure. No, she had no wish to die even though she knew it was a part of life. An inevitable thing for nearly all, but she had been blessed to avoid it for now. [break][break]
"Well, it's good to know that the years have been kinder to you, Vincent. If anyone deserves a happy ending then it's you!" Her green eyes sparkled with joy at how light and at peace he truly was. He seemed ages past the man she had met within the basement of the Shinra Mansion. Would the others also be like this as well? Moving on with their lives and being happy for themselves? Aerith could wish for nothing more than that for all of them, and she would do her best to make sure it stayed that way for them. "Oh, I've been staying with Cloud and Tifa in Sonora. She owns a small bar called the Seventh Heaven just like back home. Cloud does mercenary work to earn gil and I've been trying to help out by selling flowers. It almost feels like being back in Midgar beneath the steel sky." [break][break]
A comforting, stable thing she found herself clinging to. Despite all of the traveling she had done during their journey, she still felt somewhat overwhelmed by the endless expanse of the sky above her. Aerith held her own insecurities just as they all had, but she had grown accustomed to hiding them beneath a smile. "But what about you? What have you been doing and where are you staying?"
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]He jolted slightly at the thought that he deserved a happy ending. It was a nice thought, maybe he did finally. Maybe leaving Lucrecia and his pain in the past was the first major step to achieving that happiness. He felt real happiness to see just how pleased Aerith was, to see that joy sparkling in her green eyes. [break][break] Tifa? That shocked him a little. Vincent hadn’t heard anything about her being here in Zephon too. Who else was here? There were so many from Gaia he knew of already. It seemed like almost all of the old crew was here, drifting around. It was an impossible dream… could they truly be reunited in this new world, away from the endless hardships of the old? When she mentioned the steel sky, he glanced up at the sunlight filtering through the fluffy clouds. “I much prefer the scenery here,” he commented. “But in some ways, it is similar.” [break][break] “I’ve been working with the Dragonblades mercenary group here in Torensten recently. I, uhh, was in Sonora first. But I helped someone out of a predicament with the guard and got thrown out. Too bad that’s where Cloud and Tifa are.” He wondered how he would manage to get back into the city to see them. “I suppose I could try to disguise myself sometime to try to go back, unless they travel south.” [break][break] “Want to go find somewhere to sit?” he asked as the crowd continued to file around them. Some people were clearly getting annoyed by them standing in the middle of the street. His tea was empty by now anyway. “We could stop in a cafe nearby. I could use another drink.” Vincent gestured to the empty cup.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] A somewhat sad smile crossed her lips at Vincent's surprised reaction to her words. It always took her aback when she realized that some of her friends didn't beleieve that they deserved to be happy. Whatever mistakes they had made in the past belonged exactly there. Each of them carried their own burdens and woes, but she really did believe that nearly everyone deserved their own form of happiness. A lesson that even she still struggled to believe in for herself. Aerith felt guilt over many things she had done and had not been able to do, but she still wished to live her life and know she had done the best she could in those moments. [break][break]
"Really now? I would expect that from Barret or Cid but not from you," she teased with a light laugh. That did make things a little harder since she doubted it would be easy to sneak Vincent into Sonora. Aerith tilted her head to the side as she scrutinized him for a moment. The most drastic change would be to cut his hair but that would be a real tragedy to do. Perhaps a wig? Cloud had been able to fool everyone in Don Corneo's mansion as a rather pretty woman, so perhaps Vincent could do something similar? Add a wig and something completely different than the usual clothing he wore? Oh, Aerith was taking this more seriously than she should! It would be far easier to just visit him here than sneaking him in after all. "How do you feel about dresses, Vincent?" The gleam in her eyes spoke of mischief and also a lack of true seriousness. Maybe. [break][break]
But finding somewhere to sit sounded nice! Aerith nodded her head eagerly as she took another glance at the disgruntled looks thrown their way. Linking her arm through Vincent's with a smile, she waved her other hand with a flourish. "Lead on! This is only my second time here, so I'll rely on your sound judgment." Something to drink also sounded quite nice, too! Traveling always earned an empty stomach and she was quite happy to eat a meal with a close friend.
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Aerith teased him about getting forcibly removed from Sonora. He supposed she wasn’t wrong. Those were antics more befitting Cid or Barret. “There was this foreign knight being arrested by the guard,” he explained. He wasn’t sure why the details mattered, but a part of him wanted Aerith to know he hadn’t been picking a fight or doing something anywhere near Cid-level stupid. “I tried to help him. It escalated. We ended up having to fight our way out.” He finished with a shrug. Vincent really needed to meet back up with Cecil sometime and see how the knight was doing after their flight from the city. [break][break]
Then Aerith had a mischievous gleam in her eye that Vincent recognized and knew couldn’t possibly bode well. His suspicions were immediately confirmed when she asked how he felt about dresses. Obviously, Vincent hadn’t been in Wall Market to witness Cloud’s beautiful transformation but he’d certainly heard about it plenty. Mostly from Aerith. He knew that she had to be referencing it now. “I think I’ll leave the cross-dressing to Cloud,” he said, amusement lacing his voice. “I’m certain he pulls it off better than I ever could.” But then he thought for a moment. “A wig might not be a bad option though. Who could possibly recognize me with short blonde hair?”[break][break]
Aerith seemed thrilled at his suggestion of finding somewhere to rest and get a drink, maybe food. She linked her arm with his and Vincent was struck with a flood of emotions and deja vu. This was a feeling he’d never expected to experience ever again. He’d always appreciated Aerith’s upbeat approach to life even if he hadn’t been able to understand it at the time. She’d been the true heart of their group. Had he ever really told her that… before? He probably hadn’t, knowing him. “I missed you,” he said earnestly, as he led her towards the little cafe where he’d first gotten his tea, “Truly.” [break][break]
There was a little bench on the outskirts of the crowd that Vincent immediately eyed. But first, he returned to the vendor and ordered himself another iced tea, a light sandwich, and whatever Aerith fancied. When they were settled back on the bench, away from the worst of the crowd, he felt more at ease. They weren’t receiving dirty looks for standing in the middle of the path anymore.

[attr="class","ayab-text"] Humming thoughtfully, she nodded her head at Vincent's explanation. It was not as if she had truly believed Vincent had gone out of his way to pick a fight. "I know you're not the type to look for trouble. But with our luck, trouble just seems to find us." No truer statement had ever been spoken, she was quite sure of that! Aerith had already accepted her fate as a magnet for trouble even when she tried hard to avoid. It was just a simple fact of her life at this point! "But, hey, the important thing is you're safe and you seem happy here. Sometimes life works in mysterious ways." [break][break]
She could not help herself as she pouted just a little up at Vicent. Well, so much for her dream to see all of the guys in pretty dresses! But he was clearly amused, which was what she had been aiming for. Aerith was happy just to hear the humor in his voice and how light-hearted he seemed to be at present. It truly was a good change and one she hoped to continue for him with all of her heart. "A wig is good! Buuut, you could also let me braid your hair? Maybe a flower crown? I've been dying to do that since we met." His hair had been a nest of tangles when he first woke up in that coffin, but there was just so much she could do with it! It was nearly as long as her own and just so pretty! [break][break]
Aerith was a little surprised at his admission before she smiled up at him brightly. In response, she hugged his arm against her tightly as she laughed. "I missed you, too!" It truly was as simple as that for her. As he lead them forward to the cafe, she marveled at the good luck that had been given to her since arriving in Zephon. Being here with the people she cared for the most meant more than any words could possibly convey. Aerith was happy to order herself an iced tea like Vincent and a blueberry muffin to snack on for the moment. A soft sigh of relief escaped her when she finally sat down and stretched her legs out just a little. [break][break]
"So, do you think you'd prefer staying here permanently? Even if we could find a way back home one day?" Aerith asked with a more thoughtful expression. The question was more serious-minded, but she was genuinely curious as to what his answer was. He seemed to be doing so well here, so she would not blame him if he preferred to stay.
[attr="class","vvoverlap"]Too much hope is the opposite of despair.
[attr="class","vvbody"]Sometimes life works in mysterious ways. [break][break]
Aerith’s statement was spoken casually and simply. But it rang with resounding truth to Vincent. Life was certainly working in mysterious ways for all of them. There was no explanation for Zephon, no explanation for the resurrection of people like Sephiroth and Aerith. Mystery was clearly the name of the game here. [break][break]
Aerith seemed upset but amused when he said he didn’t want to crossdress to sneak into Sonora. Her lip stuck out in a very characteristic and achingly familiar pout. He hadn’t realized just how much he’d missed this woman and the contagious joy she brought with her. Seeing Aerith so alive and happy again certainly didn’t complicate his thoughts about meeting Sephiroth and working towards forgiveness… [break][break]
A wig wasn’t a good enough solution for Aerith. Vincent should have known. He listened in amusement as she expressed a deep desire to braid his hair. The long, shiny black locks were irresistible apparently. Back in Edge, Marlene had asked to do the same… And he’d given in. The little girl had been distraught during the Geostigma crisis, the least he could do was let her braid flowers into his hair. “Maybe someday…” he responded to Aerith, knowing full well he wouldn’t be able to resist if she pleaded too much. [break][break]
They sat together in companionable silence for a few moments on the bench as they ate their snacks and sipped iced tea. It was truly amazing the fortune that brought them together again. And so many others from their homeworld. Here they were in a new world, without the shadow of Shinra looming over them.[break][break]
Aerith asked if he’d like to stay in Zephon permanently. Vincent didn’t hesitate. The answer was easy. “I don’t think I would like to go home,” he answered honestly. “I am happier here. I’ve found peace and purpose here. There’s nothing for me in Gaia save for dark memories and shadows of the past. Especially now that I know so many of you are here.” [break][break]
“And you? If you could return to a different timeline in Gaia, would you?” The implication was obvious but he didn’t want to say aloud one where you don’t die. He had no idea if that would even be possible, but would she want to? So many things would be changed by their absence and return… Would it even be the same world anymore?
