[attr="class","ayab-text"] It had been some time since the incident with Alexander and her flowers were doing much better! Well, the ones that had not been broken entirely at the stem. A few support rods delicately tied next to them had helped to correct the issue and she had cleared away the ones beyond her aid. Aerith had done so with a practiced ease even without the lifestream beneath her fingertips to aid her. The sensation was still one she had yet to grow accustomed to. Would she ever grow used to being, well, normal? It was not quite the right word to fit, but it was the only one she could think. Her entire life had been spent beneath a magnifying glass as she was told by Shinra how special she was and that she was the only one of her kind left. That had left her feeling more insecure and anxious than anything else. [break][break]
She had spent the better of the morning tend to the flowers which meant a break was called for! Or she may just call it for the day and see if there were any jobs she could take. Aerith was always ready to earn some extra gil to help out her friends. And it was always wise to squirrel some away for a rainy day when it was needed. No one ever knew when it could be needed! The young woman found herself sitting in the same cafe she had taken Seymour to once she had brought him here. It had started raining a short awhile ago and now she was nursing a mug of hot chocolate to see if the rain would abate at all. [break][break]
It did not seem likely to do so, though. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she rested her chin on the palm of her hand and stared idly out of the window. The sights of the people walking to and fro in a hurry to escape the rainfall was calming in a way. Nearly everyone was always in a hurry to get to their destination without actually enjoying themselves. A constant race from one point to the next! She had done her best not to be like that for as long as she could remember. There was more joy in living for the moment than racing towards an unknown future with such a singleminded focus. Well, at least it was that way for her. [break][break]
Perhaps it was just one of those days she felt the need to be introspective. Who knew why?
He had yet to find Sephiroth. He'd been looking, too. But the guy was good at pulling a vanishing act, or someone else was covering for him, one of the two, had to be. The more he probed, the less sympathy he felt for the guy. Originally he'd just been the poor guy that had been attacked by that raging asshole, but digging had revealed he had some dirty laundry, too. In Sonora, in particular. Well, he didn't know for a fact it was Sephiroth, but the description matched, and he started putting it together. Apparently Sephiroth, assuming it was him, had an incident with the guards here and someone who also bore a similar description. He and a man with short, silver hair, and a shorter katana, had taken to murdering a bunch of officers here and blowing up... helicopters? What was a helicopter, anyway? Either way, while Alex had no sympathy for the Sonoran guards, well, that made going after Sephiroth easier.
The guy was super wanted. He was pretty sure the bounty would pay well. Maybe he should take up bounty hunting. All the money with none of the fame.
But he was stuck, and that meant he had to go to the one person he knew had anything regarding Sephiroth. Which meant that he had to be nice. Well, nicer than he was the first time. Seriously, they were just flowers, what was the big deal? The baritone thing was one hundred percent true though. Shanties was something he couldn't really do. Though what the hell did it hurt to try, right? "Heave a pawl, oh heave away, way, hay, roll and go. The anchor's on board and the cable's all stored, to be rollicking randy dandy-O." He grimaced for a moment at it. Yeah, he was unsatisfied with that. It just wasn't going to work. But that was interrupted, as he began to feel the drops of rain falling on him--really? Of all the times, ugh. Alex threw up his hood to try and keep himself warm. Well, at least there was something that came in handy. Getting his wardrobe back together was a good choice!
Even if it meant he couldn't repair his shop right away.
But he didn't want to get soaked, so he found himself hustling into a cafe to get out of the rain. Pulling his hood back so he could actually see, he took a look around, trying to find an empty table. Well, he found empty tables, he just also found a pink flower girl. Namely, a pink flower girl he'd been looking for. He wasted no time, sliding himself in the chair opposite her. She knew who Sephiroth was, knew what he was, maybe now that he wasn't on the run, he could actually sit down and talk to her. "Well, just who I've been looking for." He smiled. Yes, he could be nice. She just... caught him at a bad time, yeah, that was it. He wasn't normally that antagonistic with her. She just gave him shit for no reason while he was trying to not end up in some prison.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith is taken aback when someone slid into the opposite chair at her table. Blinking owlishly, she takes in the wet man before her and she begins to laugh before she can help herself. Why had he been seeking her out? Did he realize that he looked like a drowned rat? Not to mention that smile of him was full of intent. Oh, she could see that he wanted something from her. Why else would he seek out a woman he had only met once? A thoughtful hum escaped her as she continued to rest her chin upon her hand. "You've been looking for me? Do I get three guesses to see what for?" [break][break]
She feigned an expression of deep thought as if she really was unsure why he would seek her out. Hopefully, he did not have any guards chasing him down again. But, since he was sitting here with a smile, she was quite sure he was no longer wanted. "You want to know more about Sephiroth!" Aerith grinned as if she had just solved the problem without needing those two other guesses! Giggling to herself, she took a moment to sip her hot chocolate before her expression became a little more serious. Sephiroth had been famous in her world and she knew more than most, but she did not know the man personally in the least. [break][break]
"What else did you want to know about him? I can't tell you more than I already did before. I don't know him on a personal level," she warned. The older man had only been an antagonist for her and her group of friends. ANd what she had learned from Cloud's story about Nibelheim? Well, Aerith had felt quite sorry for Sephiroth. From what she understood, he had been a good enough man before his descent into madness. Everything that had happened to him had been a tragedy in the making. In a way, she could empathize with him quite well. Her early life had been spent as little more than a Shinra experiment and being coveted by the company for what they believed she could do. [break][break]
Only a tool. Yes, Aerith could empathize only too well with that.
The hot chocolate looked good, he really had to admit. Right now, with how the weather was outside, he could go with something hot for the moment. But this place was, well, it was unfamiliar to him. He also wasn't sure if he'd even be allowed to make the drink himself. Eh, it could wait until later, he could get some alcohol or something to warm him up. Rather, he just played along with her little game. At least she had something to amuse herself, right? Oh, if only they all had that. "Ah, as talented at detective work as you are at gardening." He commented. Hey, it was a compliment. Right? Right? But she at least had some kind of idea as to what he actually wanted. Plus, at least she didn't seem to think he was an idiot for it. Otherwise he doubted she'd be offering. Which naturally meant that she had some kind of faith in him.
He figured he would start with the obvious question. "Well, what can he do? I've found out that here in Sonora there was an incident where a suspect matching his description and another like him were killing a bunch of officers, blowing up warmachina, and generally raising hell here." Really, at first he might just be able to get the guy to help him fix his shop. But then there was news of excessive violence involved, which suddenly told him that things would not be so simple and that he had a feeling Sephiroth wouldn't come quietly. Fortunately, it also meant that there was probably a bounty out on him. Hopefully it was lucrative, with all the bullshit Sephiroth managed to pull off, it better be a small fortune or something.
Alex leaned back and stretched a little. "I figure if I'm going to haul him in, it'd probably be best to know what he can pull so I can at least be ready for that." He totally had it, though. How bad could it possibly get? That sword, seriously, what was up with that? Unique as can be, sure. But that thing surely had to be brittle in the middle, right? Had to be, unless there was some kinda super material or smithing technique used for it, anyway.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] And there went most of her urge to help him with that particular insult. A mild huff of annoyance escaped her as she took a sip of her hot chocolate to bite back the petulant urge to dump her drink over his head. That would just be a waste of a good drink and her gil! "You really know how to charm a girl, don't you?" she asked as she set her mug down. There was always the choice of simply walking away and allowing him to figure out how much of a risk pursuing Sephiroth was. Then again, if he somehow got himself killed then she would feel quite badly about it. Alexander was rather prickly. He reminded her of Cid in that regard--if only a little. [break][break]
"That is...certainly possible. But it depends on a few factors. The Sephiroth I knew more about during my journey had something quite terrible happen to him. As a result, he went from a hero to someone quite capable of killing innocent people." Her expression had become serious and pensive as she allowed herself to drop her more lighthearted tendencies. This was not a topic she felt the urge to make light of and she wished to press upon Alexander that the swordsman was not a man to be pursued with ease. At least, if something bad did happen to the blonde, then she had a clear conscience.[break][break]
"This world seems to pluck people out of different times. The friends I found here experienced different things than I did. So, it's very possible that the Sephiroth I knew is the man he was before he went insane. I can't be sure unless I cross paths with him myself someday," she mused with a furrowed brow. "Like I said before, don't underestimate him! He's a master swordsman and really adept at using the materia of my world. Ah, what you would call magic? The people of my world can't cast magic on their own. They need to use materia to do so." Holding up her wrist, an ornate bangle rested delicately along her wrist holding several, small orbs that shone almost like jewels.[break][break]
Aerith knew she was the only one capable in her world of casting magic without materia. Or, well, she knew she could, but it was just easier to use the materia she had acquired over her journey. Her mother had never had the chance to teach her how adeptly and she had wanted to ignore her Cetra capabilities as much as possible in the vain hope that Shinra would leave her alone.
It was sarcastic, that much he knew. But he knew better than to get into the semantics of it all. So he simply smiled, placing a hand on his chest in gratitude, nodding at her. "You haven't seen me at my most charming." He said simply, choosing to simply pretend he hadn't noticed the glaring sarcasm in her voice. Granted, he actually could be charming when he wanted to be! In fact, he had quite the charismatic nature when he actually wanted to use it! He was not the Warrior of Light for nothing! Still, he supposed it was a good sign of how patient she could be that she hadn't run off or splashed him with her hot chocolate, though maybe that might've been good, he could use something warm. Something hot to take the chill out of his bones.
But her remarks about time. Yeah, he'd noticed that, too. He looked down quietly for a moment before saying "... Messes with your head, too." So many with blank stares, so many who had no idea who he was. "Only one person remembers me. I've met several that haven't." It wasn't a matter of the fame, of course. But he wanted those close to him. At least he had Cassandra, that meant more to him than he could ever really say to his dear apprentice. He just hoped that despite his more mischievous nature, Cassandra knew just how much Alexander cherished her.
She tried to defend him. He shut that one down. "But, I doubt he's any better, if he's willing to take part in a slaughterfest." No, he could understand... difficulties in Sonora. Truly, he could. "My friend and I, we were being pursued, but we did everything we could to keep from hurting anyone." It had never escalated like Sephiroth's encounter had, but he and Prompto had gone out of their way to make sure they didn't have a reason to escalate like it had. Regardless of how corrupt the cops could be, they didn't break out something expensive like warmachina without a damn good reason. "If he's as peerless as you say, he should have been able to do the same."
Especially when your weapon has a blunt edge to it.
But he shook his head. "You don't need to explain materia to me. Though ours aren't infused with spells, but they do strengthen us." He remarked. He thought to his weapons and armor, infused with materia. Silversnake in particular had been taken through so many strengthening rituals that it was a relic in and of itself. Some may not say it was legendary, but after all the effort he put in, books he filled out, light he collected, no, it definitely was. "Your friends remember you? What're they like?" It was an attempt at small talk, they could get back to Sephiroth in just a moment. Which, might as well now. "And I guess, what's Sephiroth done in your world?" But what he had was good so far; Sephiroth wasn't a natural mage, which meant, relying on his materia, his magic came likely from his weapon.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith merely sent the man a very dubious expression at that claim. No, she really did not think him to be charming if his first response is to insult those he meets. Another urge to sigh hit her but she quickly bit it back. Perhaps when he got the answers he wanted, then he would be on his merry way. She did wonder why he hadn't ordered a drink for himself since he did look like a drowned rat as well. Should she offer? He had lost his shop, so she didn't think he had much gil on him. "Did you want me to order a drink for you? You look, well, like you could use something warm," she offered. [break][break]
"I suppose so. I wasn't there, so I don't know. It may not have been him, but I don't know anyone else by that description. I just don't like judging until I know the whole story if I can help it." The Sephiroth she had heard about on the news had been a hero to so many, but he had also been a SOLDIER. A First Class one. A person didn't become First Class by worrying about casualties all that much. Well, aside from Zack, anyway. Aerith had only met one in person and Zack had been one of a kind. She doubted anyone was as friendly and concerned about his friends as he had been. Loyal to a fault. A fond smile curled on her lips as she thought of him, but now was not really the time for those memories. "But maybe I'm just trying to be too kind when I shouldn't be." [break][break]
His world had materia as well? Was it formed from the lifestream of his world? Crystalized mako that held part of the wisdom of the lifestream within it. Pieces of the Planet that held so much potential within. Her eyes did shine with empathy as the clear dismay from Alexander over having only one person remember him. Zephon was such a cruel place in a way. Memories were such fragile and precious things. It could be cherished for all of time and lost within an instant. "Yeah, they do. They're the best friends anyone could ask for. They helped me so much when they didn't need to and I'll forever be grateful to them for it. I'd do anything to help them." Her lips curled into a bright smile as she thought of Cloud and Tifa. [break][break]
"That's...a really, really long story. And it's complicated," she answered with a soft sigh. Did she even have the time to get into that? Not to mention a lot of it was personal to her and this was only her second time meeting Alexander. "Let's just say he was trying to destroy the world and my friends and I were able to stop him."
Ah, well, she was polite, wasn't she? But Alex wasn't too inclined. He became visibly uncomfortable at the gesture, something that Aerith would no doubt pick up on. "I... ah... no. Thank you, but, I'm... not thirsty. If need be, I can make myself something later." He just didn't trust anyone who made his food or drinks for him. Well, he trusted Cassandra, but Cassandra had been through the exact same events that he had. Plus, she was a trained and mastered Culinarian. For someone who hadn't been able to cook so well at the start of it all, she'd really upped her game ever since the two of them had gotten poisoned. Unfortunately, as delicious as Aerith's hot chocolate looked, he really didn't trust anything prepared for him.
Personally, he thought she was being too soft on Sephiroth, but well, what was he supposed to say there? Though the fact that she said it was a very long story, and a very complicated one set off some flags for him. "Ah, personal issues. Right" Namely, the fact that it would take a long time, as well as be complicated, well, most accounts when you're barely involved would qualify as either. But, well, he supposed she may have just been one of many in regards to him, so he didn't really press it. At least it seemed she actually had friends that she could rely on. People who were close to her and vice versa. Still, he felt maybe he could poke here and there, see if he couldn't try and get some information. Trying to destroy the world.
That set him up a couple notches on the threat train.
Well, maybe. Depends on the how, and how far he actually got to that goal. "How did he try to destroy the world?" It was calculated. He didn't think that an explanation regarding a method that would have global consequences would really qualify as personal, at least. Especially if she wasn't there for it. Plus it could narrow things out as well, regarding what the intended method was. It may have been something really stupid that never had any chance of actually succeeding. Some things, assuming Aerith was telling the truth, were starting to make some sense. But the other guy, the blonde, still owed him for his wrecked shop. And being an overall terrorist, but! He was sure he could probably collect on something there if worse came to worse.
[attr="class","ayab-text"] Aerith tilted her head to the side as his rather discomfitted expression. Was there a story somewhere about this? All she could guess was that he had gotten food poisoning at some point and disliked ordering food. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she pushed her half finished mug in front of him. "Go on, take the rest of it. Promise I'm not sick or anything!" she replied with a slight grin. With that done, she stood from her seat to go to the counter and order herself another one before sitting back down. The poor guy could use some kindness after everything he seemed to have gone through lately. His shop had been destroyed, he had been chased by guards, and now he seemed deadset on pursuing Sephiroth. She wished him all the luck in the world on the last one. [break][break]
Was it a personal issue? A half-smile curled on her lips as she shrugged her shoulders briefly. "This is only my second time meeting you. I'm not about to share my entire life story with you juuuust yet." There had been secrets she had kept even from Cloud and the others in the beginning, because she had no wish to reveal just exactly what she was. Of course, it hadn't really mattered after she had given herself over to Shinra in exchange for Marlene's safe passage to her mother's house. A pang of homesickness hit her as she wondered how the two of them were doing. Hopefully someday she would be able to return home or just know that the both of them were alright. [break][break]
Eventually, her new order came in and she sipped at the hot drink with a contented sigh. Aerith set the mug down as she thought over his question. It was a fair one to ask. How did one go about destroying the world? "In my world, there are two materia that can call down the ultimate magic. The one Sephiroth used was the Black Materia to summon Meteor. He managed to do so and if left unchecked, well, the world is left nearly destroyed. When a wound of that size is present on the planet, then the lifestream rushes up to try and heal the wound. I believe he planned to harness the lifestream to gain power. As for the materia, I don't know if he has it, but it should be useless here." Well, Aerith sincerely hoped it was useless here. [break][break]
Idly, she couldn't help but finger her hair ribbon. Well, if he could, then she should be able to summon Holy. All of this was just hypothetical, though.
He looked at her, then looked at the cup, then back at her. Well, okay, that would work. In that case, he knew full well it wasn't poisoned. "... Thank you." He muttered softly, before chugging down the hot chocolate. The warmth gave him life, and his opinion of Aerith increased a bit. Honestly, she couldn't have been that bad. Though, now that he thought about it. "That obvious?" He remarked, before deciding to carry on, as he listened to her story. "... Huh. In my world we had someone try and crash a moon into our planet." Were their worlds that similar? Maybe there were some universal constants going on. Some madman... woman, well, Nael was a woman, in the end, It got confusing. But how in the world would he explain that entire incident? Well, if Aerith was going to skip over some details, he would do the same.
Fair was fair.
His finger traced the rim of the glass. "She was stopped by the Warriors of Light." He remarked. 'Course, he wouldn't explain that he was one of those Warriors of Light. At the time, he thought it was the most harrowing experience of his life. If only he knew what he was going to experience. He was so young and full of life then, unsaddled by the weight of the world. That entire time left a bitter taste in his mouth. Even with Nael defeated, Dalamud still continued its descent. "Moon still came down, though." He'd leave out the part where Bahamut erupted from the moon and Teraflared the entire planet though. The story was already depressing enough and well, he didn't want to make it too long or too complicated.
But he did notice one minor fault in the possibility of Sephiroth trying that plan. Well, assuming Aerith had the goal right anyway. "Sephiroth's plan wouldn't matter, though. Even if this materia worked, there's no Lifestream for him to absorb. He'd just reduce the world to a wasteland." Of course, maybe that was the real plan, just blow up the world because why not? Some people were crazy enough to try that, like Fandaniel. He really hoped Fandaniel didn't show up. That would be problematic.
