Got me laughing, I ain't losin' no sleep I'm taking the high road
Bartz didn't think he had ever seen such a magical place. The woods glimmered and glinted with colors he wasn't sure he had ever seen on plants before. If it had been anyone else, the term would be 'lost', but for Bartz it was just wandering somewhere new as he meandered back to Torensten. Bartz couldn't remember much from sailing on the ship, but he had woken up with fuzzy memories of pretty women and a shell that somehow sounded like pretty women singing to him. He tried to hum along as he walked holding the conch to his ear as he did so not really paying attention to where his feet were taking him before a lake appeared before him.
Bartz jaw dropped at how crystal clear it looked. Plant hung over the edge giving it an illusion of an aquatic paradise below the surface too. Mesmerized, Bartz stepped foward swearing there was pretty lights dancing beneath the surface of the water swimming towards him. He got down on his knees to look closer. At first just his reflection shone back up at him, but it began to shift. The reflection couldn't seem to figure out if it was masculine or feminine, either, nor, but Bartz just saw something beautiful beckoning to him. He leaned closer, closer, his nose almost skimming the water before two little puffballs came whizzing toward him on the water's surface pushing him back onto the shore. The water bubbled before Bartz saw two winged little figures spring out twirling about and screaming.
"We just wanted to play. If he can't swim it's not our fault! No fun. No fun. No fun! We're TELLING." The fairies disappeared into dust as Bartz watched in amazement at the fairy dust they left behind wondering if tasted as sugary as it looked. "That was a close one, Kupo!" The other moogle bounced in agreement. "Good thing we were here! We should get you to the village before anything else happens." Bartz looked at the winged little thing unable to keep from smiling at how cute it was. "Okay lead the way! I owe you one! I already took one bath today" The Kupos seemed to dance for a moment before waving him forward. The moogles led Bartz deeper into the forest, and he followed along in jovial spirit! The little creatures seemed so familiar to him as they chittered and chattered to one another about how excited they were he was coming to the village, but something nagged at him that he should have needed a friend to translate for him. Instinct took over, and he looked down to his side to see no one there. He pursed is lips. Unlike a few other weird ideas he had about friends he swore he never had, this one was hard to shake. He'd have to ask Faris if she could talk to moogles when they saw each other again, but something was already telling him no, and why would he have looked down to talk to Faris?
"We're here, Kupo!"
The two moogles pulled some vines apart from one another where Bartz had sworn he had just seen a sheer rock face, but he entered as the vines closed behind him and the rock formed once more. Bartz blinked at that for a few secrets, but he chalked it up to the moogle magic before turning in awe. They were at least two, tree dozens Moogles flying about in a makeshift enclosement the canopy only allowing a little bit of natural light in. Instead the place still appeared as day thanks to glowy plants floating about. The small little alcoves in the trees would never fit someone of his size he thought, before realizing all the Moogles had stopped flying around instead their focus on him. "Um, hi!"
"We got one!" The moogles cheers began almost immediately. "Got one! Got one! Got one!" They chanted louder beginning to swarm around Bartz with glee and excitement. Charmed and enamored by the cute little puffs of fluff he gave into the cheering with a whoop and loud chuckle. "You got me! You got me!" before a louder Moogle voice boomed. "Get back. Get back."
A Moogle of a much bigger stature than the others hovered over and Bartz wondered how it's wings were holding up it weight. "Welcome to our village, human. Word has arrived that Kupolupo and MogMog III saved you from the fairies. I am Kupocoops XXV leader of the Moogles of the wood, Kupo. Let's eat while we wait for our other uh- guests, yes guests, to arrive!" The fat moogle clapped and the others dispersed dragging out log tables that looked too small for Bartz before two Moogles pushed him on a toadstool that seemed to have grown out of nowhere and a log of his own was produced. "Well thanks! I sure am hungry!" He exclaimed patting his belly waiting to see what yummy treats moogles liked to eat.
[attr=class, text] After the turmoil at the Water Shrine, she was awarded a small grant to start her organization from the university in Torensten. But alas, they were still highly short staffed. And there would always be so much land to cover and so many myths to debunk, so she hoped to recruit more soon. One such job had her exploring here - to map out and scout the Wanderwoods. It was such a beautiful place, and she had hoped to find the mythical kupo nut. It was rumored to be a lure for beasts called 'moogles'. They appeared in many fantasy books and mythology, but in all honesty, Quistis had never seen one beyond an illustration. [break][break] But there were plenty of talk of sightings of them in the Wanderwoods. But nothing officially had been recorded by an official researcher. Quistis closed her journal of the notes and sketches. The text said they could be found in this area, growing on bushes. Peculiar. Maybe that red-brown fruit growing on that bush was it? But as she drew closer, she heard sudden movement in the brush. Red poms poked out of the green and the sounds of their muffled voices seemed to be dismayed. [break][break] Then...there they were. [break][break] Like little white teddy bears with floating poms above their head and little purple bat wings. She felt her heart beating quick from the excitement. They did exist! And they were here on Zephon! Before she could mark down her coordinates and notes in her journal, she was rushed by two of them. [break][break] "Ah. This one is larger with two hands, Kupo." [break][break] "Hello, Kupo! " [break][break] They buzzed around her in a circle and she thought she felt swirls in her eyes. "Can you help us, kupo?" [break][break] "We need help carrying all these kupo nuts to the banquet, kupo." They seemed to fly and dance over a series of baskets that appeared too heavy for them... Err... How did they carry them in the first place? They had no fingers that she could tell. Just paws. [break][break] "Oh. Of course." And how could she refuse? This seemed a prime way to observe them up close and learn about them. They excitedly chatted between each other as they led her through the secret entrance, illusioned to keep them safe. Quistis tried to make a mental note of where their location was. She would certainly have to tell the other scholars at the university. [break][break] Though she hardly had time to consider the illusory entrance fading, when she was suddenly bombarded by the cute creatures. They seemed to dance and fly in the air via magic. Quistis held her baskets awkwardly and she was ushered in the direction of where to set them. A log appeared before her to place them down. Had that been there before? Her brow creased. Then out of the corner of her eyes, she saw a familiar face. "Ah. Bartz, wasn't it?" He was from the ship before. "I'm so glad to see you safe - " It gave her much relief. However, before she say anything else, she stood too close to the kupo nuts. They swarmed around her to get their paws on the treats inside and for a moment she seemed lost among them.

Bartz was enamored with the tiny little puffs. As they pranced about trying to get thigns reday for the meal, Bartz ws busy getting to learn each of their names. "Moggie, Moget, Moglin, Kupotin," he said pointing at each of the moogles surrounding him like a barrier as they puzzled over him whispering among themselves but still answering his questions and banter. "I think I've met a few of you," he pondered tapping at his chin trying hard to remember, "I don't remember you being able to talk, but someone knew how to translate." Someone small and not Faris. For the life of him, anytime a vague image would begin to appear another moogle would fly up to look at him.
"We've got another one!"
Bartz turned to see what the hubub was about only to see one of the people from his short time on the boat. "Oh hey! The mermaids help you back to shore too?" He asked before realizing he didn't explain himself properly. "Well at least that's what I think. You see this shell is singing to me," he says holding up the conch he had found. He shrugged as the Moogles around him suddenly bumrushed the woman which got Bartz to stand up. "What's got you guys so excited?" He followed them over to small heap Quisits had brought in with. "They sure are cute aren't they?" He smiled brightly running his hands through his messy hair.
"They seem to be going wild over those nuts," Bartz mused tilting his head to the side, his body alreday knowing the conclusion his mind was making. "Wonder if they taste as good as these little guys are making a fuss over." Bartz picked up the kupo nut watching the moogles to see if he needed to break it open first, but popping it right down the hatch when he saw one of the puffs do so. "It tastes how nuts taste," he offered Quistis with a shrug yet unaware of why the Moogles prized the food so much. "Want one?" he asked managing to grab another before another set of moogles swooped in on the pile and holding it out for her.
[attr=class, text] Quistis worked to push her way through the mass of moogles that bombarded her. She stumbled out, her hair now partially falling out of her bun and her glasses a little crooked. She took a moment to catch her breath before standing up straight and removing her classes. She stuck them in her hip pouch. Oh good! He did remember her. “Mermaids?” She placed her hands on her hips and shook her head. “Oh no. I wasn’t so lucky. And they sing to you through the shell?” This was certainly a story for the books! Though she could not be sure Bartz was quite all there. [break][break] Quistis took the shell for a moment and with curiosity, held it to her ear. She heard… Well… Nothing. Just the normal ocean-like sound one does when listening. The illusory sound created by the wind trapped between shell and ear. “Oh. She sounds quite lovely.” She smiled back and handed it back to him. Then, he pushed right past her into the crowd of moogles. She waited for a moment. She nodded at him. “Terribly cute. I didn’t know they really existed until today.” [break][break] She smiled and chuckled as she watched. Her eyes studying them as they each tried to get more than two kupo nuts. “Certainly. Thank you.” She went to grab the kupo nut Bartz offered her, but one of the other moogles snatched it from him in a huff. “These are sacred to moogles, kupo.” It huffed at him, and probably was making a story up just to take it. “Just tastes like a nut, kupo.” It huffed at Bartz’s uncouth taste. Obviously, he was not a connoisseur of kupo nuts. This was the finest batch yet! [break][break] Then a moogle with ribbon wands came swooping behind them. Pushing first at the back of Quistis, then at Bartz back. “Come on. You must go participate in the dance.” Quistis stumbled a little and looked up to try to see what the moogle was talking about. Then she saw them clapping and playing the trumpet in the corner. Some were already in a circle starting to twirl and bob in the air.
Got me laughing, I ain't losin' no sleep I'm taking the high road
"Aw come on! There's more than enough to share," Bartz complained as the moogles snatched the kupo nut away from Quistis. He gave her a what can ya do shrug as the moogles began to feast on their nuts. "You've never seen a moogle before?! One of my friends had a moogle buddy of her very own kinda like me and Boko!" What friend? Bartz stopped talking for a second scratching at his head. He strained to think of who it might be, but thinking was surprisngly hard all of a sudden. He'd ask Faris is he owned a moogle at one point later. "We should dance, come on!" He yelped feeling a sudden rush of energy waving Quistis to the pile of dancing moogles.
He stared at his hand. Or at least he thought it was his hand. Had his hand always fizzled and swirled about like that? "Hehe, that's weird," he slurred as the flurry of the moogles dancing seemed to be like a keldiscope of white fur and red poms like ice cream sundae with a cherry on top. Bartz couldn't help it as he began to sway in time with the music being played. A flute had been added in with the trumpet, and one second Bartz was in his cape, the next the crystal had him in his red dance shirt, his green sash adding into the vibrations of color that pulsated around him. He felt elevated, transcendent.
"HE CHANGED, KUPO HE GLEW!" "KWEH KWEH!"
The moogles descended upon him and he felt himself being nudged and pushed in a certain direction. Had he heard a Chocobo? "To the temple, quick, quick!" Bartz felt as though more music was being played and were the moogles and chocobos singing together? He wasn't sure, but an image of a giant king moogle made him burst into a fit of giggling hysterics as he danced along with them towards a path that hadn't been there before behind the chief Moogles seat deeper into the forest. "You coming?" He asked with a shimmy at the other human he had more or less forgotten about til he turned to look for the sound of the Chocobos. He could've swore that one of them sounded like Boko.
[attr=class, text] She let the moogles do as they would, not wanting to interrupt their interactions with one another. It was all so interesting to her. Bartz seemed quite surprised she had never seen a moogle before. She flushed and shook her head, no. Though, excitement filled her voice as she stared at him wide-eyed. “She does? Could she introduce me? I would very much like a formal talk with one.” Boko? Who was that? Yet all questions were put on hold as he rushed forward to dance. She seemed a little shy about taking to the dance, but hadn’t she so wanted to dance at the ball back at Garden? It wasn’t the Garden, but she was certainly being invited to the dance floor. [break][break] She took a deep breath and followed Bartz’s invitation. She tried to keep pace with the moogle’s rhythm. She took a few awkward steps followed by a spin, but it seemed the Moogle’s music put them in a trance state where the body eventually moved on its own and thoughts were lost. In a small moment of clarity, “Are you ok?” She thought she called out to Bartz. He seemed to be slurring and his eyes seemed sort of big. Did the nuts have a different effect? [break][break] Then suddenly, there was a big flash and she seemed to break from the trance. The moogles all gasped as he spectacularly changed outfits. Was she dreaming? Maybe she should pinch herself? Ouch. Nope. Not dreaming? Then what the heck was happening? He shimmied towards her and all she could manage was a dreamy “Wow.” Then, she shook her head as if she just woke up. She felt her cheeks redden from embarrassment, though she was not sure what made her so flustered. “I...uh...yeah. Let’s go.” She adjusted her glasses and followed the moogles up ahead. “Where are we going?” She called over the parade of moogles and music.
