This marks the visual era of Adventu 4.0, our 4th and by far best design we've had. 3.0 suited our needs for a very long time, but as things are evolving around the site (and all for the better thanks to all of you), it was time for a new, sleek change. Another shoulder collided with Reno's while he walked down the city street. The sharply dressed redhead kept his composure, and only shot a glare over his shoulder before continuing on. He needed to keep a low profile, and he needed to find… him. Bald. Sunglasses. What was his %&$#ing name? He muttered under his breath as he continued, hunched forward with his hands in his pockets. His arrival was nothing short of a miracle, landing near a powerful warrior who didn't slice him into ribbons. He managed to get away, and settled in the city of Torensten for a spell, cleaning his suit, doing a few odd jobs, and hopping a caravan to the most advanced city in thisGods forwaken world.
He kept the grimace on his face as he kept walking, crossing a street, then another, before seeing a Cafe up ahead. Almost as if on queue, his stomach rumbled, and his throat parched. He sighed quietly, keeping a mental count of his money as he quietly moved towards the building, honestly elated that he found a place to rest his feet.
"Maybe they got an Inn, here, too." he said, his voice quiet and gravelly.
Stepping foot in the place caused Reno's head to seemingly explode for just a moment. The atmosphere, the build, it all seemed so familiar…
Then it stopped. No pain. Just a slight ringing in his ears. He looked around for a second, and saw the place was slow in business. Perfect. He gets to keep his low profile, and get a meal.
He walked over to a table, assuming he needed to seat himself, and plopped down in one of the booths, leaning against the wall at the end of the seat, propping his legs up off the floor. Yeah, it was a bit tactless, but whatever. His feet hurt.
He saw a waitress approach, and before she could say anything, he held up a hand. "Gimme like… ten minutes, lady. Then we'll see what'cha got." She nodded, slightly flustered, and walked off as Reno tilted his head back, letting out a sigh of relief.

Investing the funds of the man she double crossed, she decided a maid cafe may be a good idea. She did not expect much in the ways of profit. Rather, she decided it was the best way to continue her intelligence gathering while not putting physical strain on herself while she healed from her recent endeavors. She had learned in the past that starting a fan club around Zack Fair had gained her much intel. She hoped that making a fan servicey café could help her gain the same level of intel. Happy customers meant looser tongues. Or so she hoped.
[break][break] The café was small but reminiscent of a French tearoom. The walls and cieling were painted a soft sky blue with vanilla and gold trimmings to accent it. A mirror with gold accent was set above a fireplace’s soft vanilla mantle. It was decorated with sconces and winter flowers of purple and white. A fire kept the place cozy and the lights were kept a pleasant dim. A darker shade of blue than the walls kept the windows lined. The same color decorated the elegant chairs that were neatly tucked under each table. The tables were covered with white linen with napkins properly folded and silverware gently proper laid out for treats.
[break][break] Cissnei herself had been able to find someone to fashion her the proper attire. Cissnei chose a long sleeve maid dress with white gloves. It was to hide the ugly injuries caused by her previous endeavors with Asael. She did well to hide the pain her arm and wrist caused her. Her maid dress went down mid-calf where she wore black tights and heels. A white, frilly apron finished her look. She already had a few people order only a drink so far. Something to warm their insides as they sat in the corner of the café chatting.
Cissnei was quite proud of the work she was able to put into this layout. It was something she had learned to do well to please the executives at ShinRa. Coffee and tea were something she knew how to make and she knew how to make it quite well. She decided to serve pastries as a treat, but it was these she lacked skill in. Her first victim in trying them was quick to offer his own chef services in return. Unfortunately, this new pastry chef had seemed to have recently gone missing. It unnerver her, because he did not seem the type to just up and walk out without any notice. Seemed she may need to do her own investigating.
[break][break] Cissnei was in the backroom when the new girl came back a bit flustered. She was not as useful as Ignis, and a lot more daft. However, the girl worked hard. But it seemed someone had quite rudely entered without being properly seated or gentle.
[break][break] Oh. Cissnei knew how to deal with this kind of person. Her eyes narrowed as she instructed the girl to finish making some of the treats. Cissnei had learned a little watching Ignis, though she was nowhere close to what he could do. Cissnei wiped her hands on her apron and exited the backroom into the main lounge. Her hands folded low in her lap as she exited with practiced grace.
[break][break] “Welcome to the café Master…”
[break][break] She turned to see Reno in great surprise. Her ochre eyes widened. It really was him. His outfit was updated, but no one matched his appearance. She felt delighted to see him! But she also felt a slight fire in her burn at seeing his BOOTS on HER table. Where the customers generally knew her as even tempered, Cissnei marched over to him. At this point, it felt like she was already back in her normal Turk routine. “Reno! Get your boots off the table.” She fussed at him, arms crossed and glowering.
[break][break] But she couldn’t keep her hard expression long with him. It softened into a relief at finally finding him. "And may I offer you a coffee?"

Reno opened one eye at the mention of his name, the sudden shock causing him to land his feet on the floor (much to his pain), and sit up, both surprised and annoyed that anyone would-
Then, his jaw dropped.
For a rare moment, Reno was surprised. At a loss for words, he placed a hand on the table and slowly stood up.
"... I thought…" he paused, shook his head, and pocketed a hand, taking a usual stance and hiding his shock completely.
Too little, too late, I guess.
"Thought you were dead. Thought most of us were… Yeah. A coffee will work. Along with about six hours of your time, if you're not too busy workin'." he said, giving her a look that said plain as day.
Man, I'm glad you're here.
Not many Turks would be considered individually the glue that held them together, but Cissnei was one of the hardest working ones amongst them. Reno wished he could remember the finer details, but he decided not to tempt another headache.
"If you're working, then I can wait. Just lemme know when you're done… maybe you can tell me just what the hell here is…"
He sat back down and leaned back, keeping his feet on the floor, and sighed quietly. Zephon was the name he had been given, as well as Serentestra being the continent. It was a different world, alright, but how did he get here? Was this more of the Lifestream's power? Did he maybe die and end up in some kind of Hell? With Ciss here, he doubted that. But, still… he needed to remember what he was doing before he woke up next to a Chocobo...

[attr="class","crashBody"] “Cat got your tongue?” She lightly smiled at his shock. "It's good to see you too." His reaction was priceless as he even stood up upon seeing her. Eyes would shift from his chest now to look up at the taller man. It seemed she appeared much to abruptly back into his life. He either suffered effects of amnesia or he was from a part of the timeline where he had not yet seen her return. Her eyes met his and she studied him silently for a moment. It was as if she was worried she was just seeing a ghost, like in Headstone Forest. Would he disappear into the shadows too? [break][break] She had a lot she wanted to say. The urge to explain everything at once and then load him with questions filled her. But she bit it back. “We have nine lives. I am sure I have at least a few of them left.” She teased with a shrug. “Only six hours? I think we can do a little better than that.” [break][break] She waved off his politeness about waiting and turned away from him. “I have an emergency to deal with, we’re closed now.” The few that were inside stared at her. She only gestured for them to leave now a stern look on her face, showing she wasn’t joking. She resisted the urge to demand them out. Even her new temporary hire would give her an odd look. Cissnei took the tip jar at the counter and shoved it into the girl’s arms. Even helped escort the girl out. Once Cissnei had shown everyone out, she locked the door and flipped the sign to close on the door. [break][break] She gave a soft sigh. Leaning her back against the door. See, Reno was much more important than whatever was going on here. “I’ve been trying to get everyone back together.” She said softly, shaking her head. “I’ve found a few more of us. I’ve been leaving clues of myself in bars and public places. Clues enough for Turks to follow if they caught on.” She was trying to bring her only family back together. [break][break] She gave a sad smile and she gestured toward the fire. “It’s warmer in the seat over there. I will go get some coffee for you.” She hurriedly left and made him his usual coffee. Black and three sugars. She indulged in her own caramel macchiato. She set them on a platter along with a few finger sandwiches and pastries that were left over from the day. She wouldn’t let him be cold AND hungry. [break][break] She brought it all out carefully on a tray and set it before him on the table. “I’m sure you have a hundred questions.” She sat on the table next to the tray. Her ankles crossed along her knee and her arms crossed over her chest. It was obvious she was being hesitant. “But...before I tell you my end of the story, I need to know the last thing you remember and how you got here.”

He approached the seat she had motioned to and watched as the patrons left, irritated, but compliant. He gave a slight smirk, though, why he did so was a complete mystery to him. In spite of this, he knew Cissnei, and because of her, the pieces slowly started to slide into place.
He sat down, fatigue eating at him, but he sat tall, taking in her words. A hundred questions? Heh, try a thousand, Ciss. he thought to himself, finally to a point where he could say something. "I remember… it's in bits and pieces. I was doing something, maybe running an errand for- gk!" he leaned forward a bit, pressing his hand to his temple, before taking a breath. "A sickness had taken over our home. We were working on recovery and treatment, to the best we can. At that point it was just us three… or was it four? Four of us, I think. We had found a cure, but… Next thing I knew, I was waking up next to a Chocobo with a scary demon person killing guards nearby."
He closed his eyes for a second. Then opened them, annoyed, and leaning forward. "Ah, I can't remember shit." he said, clearly frustrated, slightly confused. "What even is this place? I can't even look at the sky and feel comfortable." A tinge of sadness in his eyes. "Right when we were about to…" Another sigh, and he abandoned that train of thought. "Look, don't tell Rude this, but… I was kind of liking being a good guy, there. Don't get me wrong, those hero types piss me off, but… I wish you could have been there. From what I remember, we did real good for the people."
Clearly, his memories were fragmented. He couldn't keep a coherent thought, but he explained what he could, and the sensations he felt when he woke up. Like a bad hangover, except just the part where you hurt everywhere. He looked over to her, azure meeting ochre, and raised an eyebrow. "At least, hearing you talk, I know I'll get my memories somewhat back."

Cissnei gave him her undivided attention as she listened to his story. When he showed signs of pain, she reached out a hand to his shoulder and met his eyes. “Hey. Don’t strain yourself. It seems most of us have memory issues. It's no use forcing them. They usually come back over time.” There also have been cases where memories did not come back, but those cases felt rare. “And if they don’t, well…” Cissnei shook her head and shrugged. “We’re Turks, right? We’ve always gotten by no matter the trial.”
[break][break] She leaned back again to process what he told her. She let out a soft hum and pressed a knuckle to her lips in though. “I don’t remember any illness.” She said honestly. It must have taken over our home. “Geostigma…” She said softly, “Someone else from Gaia mentioned it. Is that the illness you are talking about? It appears to have happened after the point in time I was taken.” She was only speculating. It was possible Shinra could cover up a sickness if they caused it.
[break][break] A coy smile touched her lips. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell Rude you like being a good guy. But it will cost you a lunch or two.” She teased. She was sure Rude actually already knew. “But I always thought Shinra did good for the people. Sure they did some shady things, but there was progression in technology and comfort to the people.” Cissnei truly believed this. “So don’t tell Rude I liked helping the people receive that good.” Rude probably already knew that too. Cissnei had lots of fun making people squirm though. Oh that line they had to walk.
[break][break] She sighed a little and pushed his coffee across the table to him. He wanted to know where he was, but...well. It might be a shock. “There is no easy way to break this to you. But we have been pulled from our world into a new one called Zephon. Some say certain entities have pulled us here for some reason. I can confirm at least one of the entities exist. It showed me something about other crystals having their magic wane. As they wane the seals to fiends are weakening.” Cissnei did not have to push what would happen next. She gave a shrug and a shake of her head as if she was unsure if that was even the real reason they were here. “Shinra does not exist here. I have found others drawn from their worlds, but it seems we all have been taken from different points in time with different memories.” She shook her head and reached for her own coffee to have a small sip. “I have met a few...ah...associates while we are here. Both SOLDIERs and Turks.” She thought maybe that would help perk his mood a little.

To say Reno didn't really understand what was being said was a massive understatement. Something about being pulled from different times? Different worlds? It was too wild to be true, but, there was no lie in her eyes. So, he was really just whisked off into another world?
"Crazy." he mumbled, hearing the talk of fiends and the like. "We go from fighting man made monsters to fighting monsters in a different world. Sounds to me like a set up." he rested his finger on his chin as he listened, hearing about the D̀҉̷̧͡Į̸̧͞S̸͜͠R̴̷̀́͠L̢͢҉̧O̷̶͘͢͜E̵͘ and Turks being around. He sat up, resting his hands on his legs, and sighed.
"I kind of liked it better when we got paid for the crazy shit." he gave a wry smile. "Well, I assume this businesslike posture isn't for anything. Sounds like you got somethin' goin', and I want in."Of course I want in, he would have said, but it was understood. The synergy between (most of) the Turks allowed them to be an Organizational marvel in their world. Their work spanned continents, and their operations (known or otherwise), made for good money, as well as betterment for everything and everyone (for the most part).
Basically having given his abridged version of a 'you have my sword' speech, Reno leaned back to listen to what she had to say. Chasing everyone out of the building and sitting him down like they were at a briefing back in the day meant that something was going on that she was keeping close to the chest, and knowing Cissnei, she would likely need something crazy to get the job done.

“Some people say it is a setup. By the entities that govern this world.” Cissnei shrugged lightly and sipped on her coffee in thought. She thought about what she had been doing. Her eyes studied the fire behind him for a moment in gentle thought. At least he believed her and handled the information well. [break][break] She gave one of those guilty smiles. Like he caught her being naughty. “You know me too well.” She said lightly, putting her coffee to the side. “This city is called Sonora. I’m sure you can tell it's very similar to Midgar. There’s only one problem. We’re not at the top. And getting there is going to take some elbow grease.” She paused to let it sink in. “You see. The citizens and guards here are very distrustful of outsiders. So I’ve been trying to gain that trust.” She huffed a smile. The process has been slow. Too much work for one person. “I run an investigation’s agency here. Not quite Turk work, but it is similar and an easy way to get your name out there. My last job got me and Freyra injured. Badly.” She rolled her sleeves up to show him the nasty bruises and swelling she had been hiding. She had always done well to hide when she was in pain.

“In the meantime, I am running this cafe to spy and collect information until I can return to my work.” She shook her head, “The most trust I have gained with the Sonora military is one anonymous official I met at a masquerade. No faces. Contact methods that are untraceable. But still, it's not enough of a foothold other than some easy favors.” She studied him for a moment. “I need someone charismatic. Someone like a ShinRa executive to make it higher up in the city's social stratum. To make things interesting again. For now, I collect information for if they arrive.” If. Cissnei was not sure if it was all for nought. But she’d rather have something for them than nothing at all.

“The most that I HAVE done is at least made the underworld here know that Sonora is now Turk turf. I don’t want them troubling the citizens while I’m here.” Another method to gain the trust of the citizens. “So we have some gangsters that are less than pleased with my methods.”

She shook her head, “I don’t think the cafe will last long either. My pastry chef has gone missing. And well...you know how my food turns out.” Barely edible. Something that came out of Hojo’s lab. May possibly be alive. “He was very responsible and intelligent. And I know sometimes people aren’t what they appear...but I feel like he would have said something before quitting.” She shook her head. “I agreed to help him find someone in return for his work. I can’t help wonder if he ended up doing a search himself and getting caught up in something bad.”

As pretty much any Turk knew (especially Rude), Reno normally hated the politics of the situation. He had his place in the ranks. Security detail. Knocking some heads around. Spy work. Sure, he wasn't the most inconspicuous man, and yeah, he was maybe a bit too prone to napping on stake-outs, but at least he got the job done. He listened to her give a (thankfully) brief explanation of the city and its inhabitants. The new base of operations in a new, dark city with actual gangsters? Sure, they weren't Wutai insurgents cruising for blood, but Reno would always appreciate the opportunity for some exercise.
When she explained the situation with the pastry chef, he leaned back, resting an elbow on the table and crossing his legs, bouncing his foot in midair as he quietly milled through the information. Scratching his uncharacteristically scruffy chin, he gave a slight nod.
"So, cake decorator pays the rent, is what you're tellin' me." he gave a thoughtful hm before sitting back up, and leaning forward. "Well, sounds like you got a little faith in him. So, we find him, help him find his buddy, and then what? You think he might skip town? Because, Ciss, I can barely bake a pizza." his eyebrows furrowed slightly. "Let alone cook anything. Can you even imagine me wearing an apron?" he leaned back again, haughtily, pausing before speaking again.
"Alright. I can pry for some info, maybe break into a few buildings. Break a few hands. I don't have your finesse for espionage, but intel gathering…" he grinned. "Everything goes my way? We'll be having cake for breakfast."

[attr="class","crashBody"] Cissnei chuckled, “Pastry chef pays the rent. For now. I don’t plan to keep the cafe once I’m healed up. I’ll sell it and invest in a new HQ for my investigation’s agency. The buddy he’s looking for is a crown prince. I can’t help but think that could be helpful later.” Cissnei shrugged. Connections in all places were useful. Especially those who could possibly pull strings. She was raised to be a servant to Shinra. And she served well. But the politics had always been left to someone else, and she needed that someone else. “I imagine a prince knows how to deal with delicate political situations. In lieu to a President anyway.” [break][break]
She smiled at his joke, “I mean. You can try on the apron I’m wearing. Then I wouldn’t have to imagine.” She took a breath, feeling all talked out now. It had been a while since she had another experienced Turk around. Reno was already raring to go. She had not even given a description yet. His eagerness put her in a good mood. [break][break] “Now hold up. You came in here cold and tired. You haven’t even eaten what I brought out. I’m giving you cake now.” She gave that mother hen huff at him. She slid off the table and put her fists on her hips. Obviously the sight of her had invigorated him. But it would wear off once he discovered his hunger again. “At least fuel up first and tell me what you were doing in this new world before you caught me in a cafe.” She pulled out a chair opposite him and finally sat down, smoothing out the skirt of her dress so she didn’t sit on bunched fabric.
