Overwhelmed was how Stella currently felt. [break][break]
It was not an entirely foreign sensation to her, but she had grown adept over the years in learning how to manage such a feeling. As of this moment? Stella feels lost in this sea of people and she does not know where to start. Alone and without any form of support in this odd world. This land of Zephon is not Eos and she is unsure of what to make of that. Had the gods sent her here? If so, why had they? Her memories felt tangible and intangible at once as she could recall certain key events and others were blurred. Thinking too much upon them only gave the young woman a headache. She recalled her name and what had happened in her childhood. Yes, those memories seemed to remain to her. A princess and blessed by the gods before she even knew what she wished to do with her life. [break][break]
Stella found herself pausing in front of the window of a jewelry shop, staring idly at the arrays of necklaces presented in the display window. Beautiful, delicate things she could not hope to afford anymore. No, she could not even afford to feed herself unless she thought of a way. She could hunt for her food and she knew how to do so. What about shelter, though? It would not be the first time she had slept in the open, but she disliked the idea of doing so when she did not know the lay of the land. This was not the lush, mountainous lands of Tenebrae for her to venture forth at her will. [break][break]
For a moment, her hands brushed against the delicate star earring she wore. Wrought of lovely silver and inlaid with carefully cut diamonds in the shape of her namesake. It would fetch her a decent price, but they had been a gift from her mother. Was she willing to trade such sentimental keepsakes for food? Her pride warred with practicality and the former won in this regard. No, she would not part so easily from this well-meaning gift. Surely there was a place where she could barter food and shelter for honest work? Stella hummed thoughtfully as she wondered if there was an adventurer's guild of sorts to join. It would be of far more use to her than simply staring at this jewelry store window.
[attr="class","curragebot"]Alright, excited to play her! +w+
This place was a convoluted mess of aether. Traces here and there of power exhausted in battle. It certainly showed it, even if the town had been rebuilt. Warriors clashed, people got hurt, and buildings were destroyed. But it wasn't just once, no. Traces from different periods of time that hadn't quite faded yet. Every time it brought some sort of catastrophe on Torensten, but it also seemed that every time, they were able to rebuild. It was just... rather pointless in it all, namely because one would imagine that the inhabitants would take the hint at some point. Hades couldn't help but wonder why people continued to live here after it all.
But he found himself doing some shopping. Might as well get some groceries before he headed back to Sonora. What few knew was the difference in prices throughout the towns. Being able to simply warp between them also made that a much easier investiture, he could always get the best prices for everything! Of course, that also seemed rather redundant. When you could literally magic the money into existence, the issue of price became, well, a non issue. Still, he was at least making the effort to be good, making the effort to try and be a model citizen that blended in with everyone else, even if he had his own business.
Still, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a young woman gazing longingly at a pendant. Something... something seemed off about her soul. It was a touch different. Of course, every soul was unique, every hue different, every shade standing out, But there was... how to put it, it was as if her soul was touched, wronged by some sort of external variable. He stopped near the window, gazing intently, trying to figure out just what was going on, there.
[attr="class","curragepost"] Stella could sense the familiar sensation of someone watching her intently. It was something she had grown quite used to over the years and was able to sense rather easily. Her fingers drifted away from the delicate silver of her earring as she idly pressed her fingers against the glass of the jewelry shop. No, the necklaces inside no longer held her attention now that she knew someone was staring at her. A familiar presence or someone that thought they knew her? Otherwise, she was unsure how she stood out from any of the other people wandering about. Amusement flickered upon her fair features before she turned her head to view the person watching her. [break][break]
"What? Am I so beautiful that you have no words to speak?" Her lips were curled into a pleasant smile as she regarded the ornately robed man with wide, violet eyes. Stella could not help herself with the mild flirtation as she laughed gently. A jest that was not meant to be taken seriously in the least as she continued to regard him curiously. "You look at me as if I am a puzzle to solve. Whatever did I do to warrant such keen observation?" He was unfamiliar to her but there was an odd light to him. A faint, pulsating glow around him that she mostly observed whenever she witnessed those that had long since departed. Well, that and the gaping wound she could see within his soul when she concentrated enough. [break][break]
But he looked quite whole and hale to her. It surprised her that part of her blessing still seemed to work within Zephon, but she hoped that this was the most of it. Etro could keep her visions of the future and allow Stella to enjoy what remained of her life. It seemed she did not have to worry about the burdens that had weighed on her previously. At least for the foreseeable future.
Ah, so the observed observed she was being observed and was now observing the observer, thus making him the observing observed. He simply allowed her to make her observations and... flirt with him. Again. Well, first time for her. In truth, he never considered the Solus body to be all that attractive. If anything, Hades was better looking. Yet for some reason, he was getting quite a bit of attention since he came to this world. Were silver foxes just that high in demand or something? Of course, if people knew the abyss that was his actual age, then they would likely lose interest, if nothing else for the fact that he would almost certainly outlive them. Still, if she wished to play along, then perhaps he would as well. A simple enough thing, maybe pick at a string or two.
He smirked, with a small shrug. "I'm not the one flirting with a middle-aged man." Indeed, he was only looking, nothing more than that. She was the one making the first move. Though perhaps there was a puzzle in it all. Well, it was a puzzle that was being solved rather quickly, at least. He was good at what he did! Persephone had always made that much clear. He was very good at plenty of things other than animancy as well, also courtesy of Persephone.
But, keep tugging and pulling. "As for what I'm looking at, well, it looks like you've died." How she took that was up to her, but if nothing else, he genuinely meant it in the most literal sense. Whatever had happened to her, she had died before she came to this world, even if it had restored her to life. This world was strange, and the puppet master who played their game had strange tastes as well, considering who they brought here.
[attr="class","curragepost"] "And I am not the one staring at a young woman like a lecherous, middle-aged man," Stella easily quipped back. If he wished to make it a contest of who was the odder one, then he would win simply by starting this engagement. She had been minding her own business easily enough when he decided to stare her down quite obviously. An amused smile curled upon her lips as she stared up at him with a delicately arched brow. A harmless enough observation until he mentioned that she looked as if she had died. How so? Confusion flickered across her fair features for a moment as she considered his words. Was he seeing beyond the physical plane as she could herself? That seemed the most likely reason because she knew looked just fine. [break][break]
Had she died before coming here? Stella did not recall and attempting to do so only gained her a headache behind her eyes. Her hand raised as her fingers rested against her temples for a moment. No, she did not remember how she had died if she had truly lost her life before this. It was an entirely possible outcome considering who she had been before and the enemies that wished to use her. A hum of consideration escaped her before she merely shrugged her shoulders and gestured back to the man before her. "I can very much say the same for yourself. Your chest has a gaping wound in the middle as if you have been cleaved straight through."[break][break]
Stella did not tend to reveal her soul sight so easily, but he seemed to be one of the few with a similar ability. It was not a common one within her world and bestowed only upon those by Etro. Was he from Eos? No, Stella was quite sure she would have recognized such a man during her travels across her world. "So, you can see things that normal people cannot either. What a small world this seems to be! Death has an odd way of equalizing everyone in the end."
Well, at least this one was willing to word fight with him. It was something new, at least. Most others simply backed down the moment he started spitting some nice fire. "Oh? You are saying then that the only type of gaze a man my age can hold for a young woman is a lustful one? Excellent job generalizing an entire age group. A good effort, but relies too much on assumption." Ah, but even he paled in comparison to Lahabrea. Or, at least, Lahabrea as he used to be. Amaurot's finest Orator. At times he wondered if Zodiark could temper how much tempering He gave. Hades had managed to escape with his personality relatively intact, but whatever had happened to Lahabrea over the years, the man had clearly degenerated. A man once known as the Speaker lost that title to the Warrior. How tragic. And funny. But mostly tragic.
Her words are not something he expects, and it surprises him ever so slightly. Not enough to really let the brief moment of surprise show on his features. His hand instinctively reaches up to gingerly touch where the wound should have been. The words he said to Alexander that moment are called to his head; Remember us. A simple plea, really, and one that he himself had taken care to follow. He would remember, he would always remember. He would not allow the loss of his people to be forgotten, even if he tried to let go of the anguish which he could yet feel in his breast. Letting go was easier said than done.
Still, she describes her ability, and it's rather similar to his. Of course, hers sounds more limited if he is hearing right. "Animancer." He corrects. It was a profession in Amaurot, true, and he was one of the best, even if Hythlodaeus had the better sight. "The term you are looking for, is Animancer." Working with souls, or being able to at least perceive them, was one of the more basic levels of such.
[attr="class","curragepost"] "Well, there is always the assumption of you losing your mind with your age as your mind wanders. A quite telling sign as the aged man stares listlessly into space without rhyme or reason even as he makes said woman quite uncomfortable with such prolonged stares." Her lips are quirked into a slightly impish smile as she laughs. It has been awhile since she had experienced a worthwhile, verbal debate with someone not quite surprised with her uttering such words. Stella had spent the majority of her life under the thumb of the Empire and the expectations of the people on what the Oracle should do. She had played the part as best as she could with the wellbeing of her people in mind and those that needed the healing touch and prayers of the Oracle to keep the Starscourge at bay. [break][break]
Stella wondered if her efforts had even been enough to save Eos. The faults in her memory still linger and she cannot be sure. Perhaps with time, such ephemeral memories would return to her. There was no use in lamenting on what she could change for the time being where there were more pressing concerns at hand. She watched as the man placed his hand over his chest at her words and she wondered if they had taken him by surprise. If so, then he had not shown any evidence of such an emotion. Perceiving souls had always been second nature to her since she had been a young girl. The blessing from Etro and Eyes that had allowed her to witness so many horrors of an unknown future. [break][break]
"Animancer? Is that so?" Stella mused with interest. "I was not born with the gift. In my world, it is a blessing bestowed upon those able to witness the Gates of Etro opening and seeing the light of the souls enter. A near-death experience is the qualification for the goddess' blessing and I was bestowed with a few of her graces." He was a stranger but she did not worry about explaining such things to him. It was nice to have a name to coin her ability with, though. Stella regarded him with curious violet eyes before clasped her hands before her and smiled slightly, "Shall we introduce ourselves at this point? My name is Stella Nox Flueret and I can see the souls of those that have departed from life."
