Quistis watched as he seemed to try to take her Centra Ruins description and reformulate it in his mind. She could almost see the cogwheels turning. She wondered if this would help with his memory. There was no more description she could give either. No one at the time was able to discover the true intent. Few even knew of its location due to its difficulty to reach.
Further, she was unsure how to handle amnesia other than be supportive and explain. She was sure he could work it out and find his answers in time. All she could do was give him that gentle push in the right direction.
Then, he settled back into his seated position and tried to follow her suggestions. She took a deep breath and sunk a little deeper into her cushion. Legs folded to the side as she placed her hands in her laps. Let’s see if she could practice what she taught as well. But Quistis found it much harder to clear her own mind.
She was worried about Zell and trying to get him his answers. She was worried about the others of her team and where they could be. She was trying to understand all this new information on the Crystalus Divider. She even was unsure where on the planet she even was. Part of her doubted the Gods literally spoke to you, but wouldn’t that be an experience if that did? She thought this place a literal place of quiet reflection.
But reflection did not seem to come quietly.
She grew impatient with herself, before letting go of the breath she was holding. She began counting her breath. In, one, two, three. Hold. Out, one, two, three. She felt herself calming down. She could hear the beating of her own heart. She could feel the swell and deflation of her lungs. Her mind began to quiet down.
The wind whistles through the distant windows. Light filters through stained glass, motes of dust illuminated in careless spirals. The eyes of the gods watch from their stone effigies, cold and disinterested. And then, a whisper and a warmth.
It’s impossible to parse that whisper. There are no words -- or at least none of any common tongue. Instead, they are merely a feeling. A welcome. A warning.
’You’ve come,’ they seem to say. ’My distant heroes.’
With that, a series of flashes as though on a film reel. Streaks of missiles burning the sky. Balamb Garden taking flight. The Sorceress Edea in battle, and then collapsing. Rinoa in strange, unnatural after images, and then a castle lost at the edge of time. These memories fly past in vivid succession only to stop at their point of arrival.
Their story ends here. The trials of Zephon are not part of their story, and yet, they have become part of it. A warm light touches at the gods’ stone carvings. The eyes of the great dragon light in a violet-black.
’Fight as you are destined,’ it says. ’Fight back the evil of this world, and then I may guide you home.’
Just as suddenly as it began, it ends. The light fades. The warmth fades. The whispers die away. They are left in only an empty room of dust and gods lost to time.
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
The struggles in his mind stirred less and less frequently. Yet, Zell still managed to eased hismself into a peaceful state that he didn't know was possible. And that was when it came.
Long, drawn out moments of emptiness were eventually replaced with a sudden radiant warmth. It arrived, not from the air, but from words; words that described to SeeDs as heroes for a divine being. And with the words also came what Zell had been searching for. More than his purpose on Zephon and more than people to share his time with. His memories returned.
The flood of visions played his life out like a movie. It was all so quick, yet permanent. Everything he did in his past life on his home world returned. Squall, Rinoa, Quistis, Selphie, Irvine, even Edea and all of the others; the memories returned to him.
"Fight," the voice whispered, "as you are destined. Fight back the evil of this world, and then I may guide you home."
The rush of everything returning to the SeeD forced him out of the meditative state that he fought so hard to enter. His body, stumbling and flailing from the seated position, toppled over in the direction of Quistis, who he eventually bumped into as he scurried backwards on the floor.
"I-I saw them," he said with heavy breaths. "Squall and the others. I remember...everything." The big blue eyes of his swelled up from the overwhelming happiness he felt, with streaks of tears beginning to flow down his cheeks. Zell wanted his memories, but he didn't know how he would react once he got them. Not until now.
"I..." A quick turn followed so that the boy could grab onto Quistis and hug her. He gripped his companion tightly and did all he could to fight back the sobs. His body quivered.
"I'm sorry I forgot." She had been one of his best friends, and he forgot her. They fought countless monsters, soldiers, and even beings capable of catastrophic destruction. They did this together with their other friends, but he still forgot them all. However, his memories returned and now Zell swore to himself that he would never forget anyone again. Especially not someone who always looked out for him; in the field or in the Garden.

Quistis and @zell
[attr=class, text] Quistis found it difficult to keep her mind focused for long. Especially when there was so much newness around her. But, she did her best to acknowledge her distracting thoughts and let them go. The breath expelled was even and soft. As time passed, she tried not to be restless, lest she distract Zell. [break][break] Then, it felt like something joined them. Eyes burrowed into her soul, yet instead of feeling uncomfortable under the gaze, there was a welcoming warmth to it instead. She could not help but wonder if she imagined it. Then, there was the uncomfortable flood of memories. There was more than one. Were they all here? Were they saying they knew their story? Was there something in her memories she needed to parse to understand the current situation? Or were they simply selected because of their situation? There were so many questions to be asked. None of them left her. She was over analyzing it, she was sure. [break][break] Her eyes opened, reeling from the sudden feelings. She could see the ethereal glow from the stained glass light up the statues. The eyes of the great dragon lit with life. So, there was evil to fight. What did it look like? She tried to think back to what their tour guide told them…. [break][break] Did she even want to go home? Her eyes lowered. Her meditative state fell away as she got lost in a sea of her own questions. [break][break] It was then Zell surprised her. She braced herself for his over excited scrambling. A hand reached out to at least try to break his fall when he stumbled backwards. But when Zell was in this state, there was no stopping the forces he put in motion. Her eyes, still widened from surprise, tried to take in what had made him so alarmed. Then, his tears came and she understood his memories returned. Her face melted into relief and a warm, sad smile crossed her lips. [break][break] His hug was strong and it nearly took the air out of her at first. But, then, she returned the embrace, letting out a soft sigh of relief. Or perhaps she had been holding her breath the hold time through the meeting with the deities. She quietly let him vent his feelings. “It’s ok.” She said gently to his apology. She soothingly rubbed her hand along his upper back. Seeing him like this made her want to cry too. She felt the tears sting her own eyes. Her heart ached. Even if she did not want to return home, she would certainly fight whatever evil to help him have his chance. [break][break] She then took him by the shoulders to hold him a short distance away from her. Her blue eyes met his. “You remember now. And I will help you get home. No matter the cost.” She squeezed his shoulder, then cracked a more amused smile, maybe to help lighten the mood. “All we have to do is fight, right? Just got to remember our training. This is just like a contact, but with them.” She tilted her head to the statues.
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
Part of him was worried. He'd been alone for so long in this place that there was a fear of rejection by Quistis. He did come off pretty strong with his hug, after all. But thankfully, she was understanding and comforting. His companion was as Zell always remembered; the reassuring sisterly figure.
The male SeeD gave a nod to Quistis's statement. She was right, this was just like their contracts back home, only this time it came from a higher power. And they couldn't refuse it. "Yeah," he said, pulling his hands away to wipe his face dry. A sniffle followed. "So, we just need to find these evil dudes and give them the beating of their life!"
When he got his bearings, Zell pulled back and stood up to dust himself off. His mood had shifted yet again, from upset and disappointment in himself, to optimistic and eager.
"There's someone I met who's also here from another world. Her name is Lumina and she's in a place called Provo." Zell turned towards the exit of the chamber and started boxing in place in an attempt to psych himself up. "She's got powers and stuff, so she can help us deal with these bad guys."
His head turned back to Quistis, waiting for her to gather herself. "We can stop at Torensten on the way and stock up for the battle ahead. Come on!"

[attr=class, text] Quistis gave him the time he needed to recover. His tears dried up with each fist to his cheek. “Hmm. Thrashings are what we are good at. And even if we are in a contract with the gods, doesn’t mean others won’t contract to dish out the thrashing.” She pumped a determined fist. Profiting from their skills certainly could not hurt. It could even help them advance to their goals. ALmost like killing two birds with one stone. [break][break] “Are you feeling alright after that? Maybe you should sit down.” She worried that perhaps the sudden retrieval of memories gave him an adrenaline rush that would soon wear off. She could occupy him with a game of Triple Triad or something. [break][break] It sounded like they were not the only ones to be pulled from another world. Lumina and Provo were new names. “What kind of places are Provo and Torensten?” Quistis offered. She had only just arrived here, and this was literally her first stop in this new world. “Crystalus Divider is the first place I’ve been to. I don’t know anything beyond what we saw here and our journey.” She heaved a soft sight. It seemed she had a lot to learn in the way of geography. [break][break] “And it seems you have a crush on this Lumina girl.” She teased as she followed him out the door. She gave an exaggerated sigh, "And please tell me they have a good Triple Triad competition somewhere." She had the itch to play. She looked over her shoulder to glance at the room one last time. Perhaps to see if the statutes would come to life again. Maybe she would hear another whisper. Was it simply a hallucination? She would need to come back and revisit one day.
If you don't fight for what you want, don't cry for what you lost.
"Hell yeah!" He was pleased to see that Quistis was as psyched as he was about their newfound purpose in this world. Her concern for his well-being was also a pleasant surprise. "I'm good. I feel like a million Gil, now!"
However, Quistis seemed to have more questions, to which Zell came to realize that she was still new to Zephon. Added to that the accusation that he had a crush on Lumina caused the male SeeD to spaz. "Wait, what?! No! I don't even--No!"
Quistis wouldn't know, but Lumina was the one that saved Zell when he first arrived in this new world. At the very least, he should tell her about his findings at the Crystalus Divider. Especially after he left her behind in Provo.
"Uh, Torensten is the closest city, right now. It's where me and Balthier came from," Zell said, changing the subject. A mental image of the map came into his mind, trying to rememeber the routes he took to reach this place. "Provo is north of there. That's where I need to go, but we can stop in Torensten to restock, first."
Zell was ready to leave. When he first arrived here, he was still a lost child. But the magnificent fighter had now returned. "Anyways, I think we're done here. We can leave whenever you're ready, and maybe even find someone else that knows about Triple Triad along the way."
