Cissnei did not expect comfort or empathy. She knew Emma better than that. Cissnei had once been the same as her before Reno and Rude relentlessly prodded her to lighten up a bit. It was that and Cissnei’s irreplaceable soft spot for the Turks that caused her to open a bit more. And maybe the fact that she wanted to let Emma know she was not alone in her suffering. To let her know that she did not have to suffer any longer. Where Tseng took care of the Turks at headquarters, Cissnei was not going to miss her chance to pull them back together and take care of those not under his charge.
Of course, she felt Emma was a much better leader than herself. Tseng himself trusted Emma the most if she took his position. Cissnei had the issue of letting her emotions for the Turks, whether she understood them or not, get in the way. To everyone else, she handled coldly and relentlessly. If the Turks were in danger, Emma would be steadfast while Cissnei would act much like a mother protecting family. Cissnei respected her greatly for that.
Cissnei could tell the blonde’s mind was in the past based by the way she looked away and replied to Cissnei as if she was far away. The copper haired lady reached forward and placed a hand on Emma’s shoulder. A warm smile crossed her lips. “Trust me. I am not letting you go. For better or worse. All I can do is promise you, in time, I will make sure we regain what we once had.” Perhaps the pink tint on Cissnei’s cheeks showed she may be a little tipsy, but her warm expression also held a town of seriousness. Cissnei was determined to not be useless. Determined to not let go again what she had once lost. She would return the Turks to their glory, no matter the obstacles. No matter the amount of time it would take.
When she received a smile from the beautiful Turk, a part of her eased. Even if it was for a moment, the smile made Cissnei content she partially did her job. Cissnei turned to look over the beautiful lighted garden once more. The bar was not far. “Let’s go get situated then.” Cissnei offered her arm politely to Emma, much like a gentleman would do for a lady. “Goodness. I remember a time when Reno was going to get crushed by an elevator. I never been more frustrated by his counting skills then when he had to add the top floor level to the one, he currently was on just to enter the security code. I thought he would die for sure.” Cissnei gave a soft chuckle as she maneuvered them to two stools by the bar.

mma's grip on her glass tightened at the words Cissnei spoke. They were exactly the words Emma wanted to hear, yet there was some apprehension in her heart. The wounds of loneliness left deep scars. Dare she get her hopes up to gain what she had lost, only to lose everything once again? She didn't think she could handle that a second time. She felt like the younger her was pushing to trust Cissnei with this. Had the older her become so jaded that she couldn't? But if she never let it go and pushed forward, she would never get back what she lost. This was the only chance, to bet everything on Cissnei's words. Could she even keep that promise? Maybe it was only her own desperation leading her to make such declarations, but at least that would mean her words came from a genuine place. That meant she could be trusted. Maybe what they used to have was impossible, but Emma knew she wanted to try to get it back. She had to fight for it, even against her own fears and doubts. She put her other hand on top of the one Cissnei placed on her arm.
"And I'll have your back, as always." Emma replied. At least if they stuck together, they would have some semblance of what they had lost. Maybe even that could be enough. It was certainly worth a shot to restore some meaning to her life. As they turned to go, Cissnei held out her arm in offering. Emma first quirked an eyebrow at her, then shook her head with a humored sigh and shook her head. She gave in and took the offered arm, allowing Cissnei to steer them to their destination. On the way, she began their new subject by talking about Reno. Emma rolled her eyes at the story.
"Sometimes I'm amazed Reno can get himself dressed in the mornings. Though, given how he wears his suit even his success in that area is debatable." Emma replied. How did someone that undisciplined become that skilled? Reno was quite the enigma indeed, "Though he's still a bit better than Alvis. I don't know how many times I saw him ruin a plan because he ran in thinking he could handle everything himself. What is it about spiky-haired red-head's that like to beat people with sticks that requires them to act like idiots?" Emma asked.
Cissnei could see Emma was a little hesitant. It was understandable. After everything they have gone through. It was a conflict between wanting to have what was lost again versus being hurt from the same mistakes. Cissnei could not change the past. The best she could do was forge a better tomorrow for her companions. If they did not feel the same way…well…Cissnei would still support them in whatever they chose. She bore no ill will against them. All she wanted was the best for her comrades. That soft spot in her would always be there.
When Emma finally reached for her hand and responded back, Cissnei felt herself redden in the face. She softened into a smile. In just that moment, Cissnei felt she could take on the entire world with Emma by her side. Cissnei’s eyes tinkled as Emma gave into her offered arm and they settled in their new spot by the bar. Cissnei laughed at Emma’s response. “Who knows? Maybe they believe blunt force trauma will always win over tact. Or they just like to compare rod sizes.” She shook her head and gave a shrug. “But even if though we were all different, we worked well together. We relied on each other’s strengths. And where they lacked, that is where we come in.” She gave Emma a wink and a nudge.
“Still thinking back on it all, it was fun. The helicopters, the action, the sense of duty, and the rush of a good fight.” Her eyes were lost to those days. She felt a cold glass press along the back of her hand, and she realized the bartender was handing them yet another glass of wine. “There’s no reason we can’t bring that back in this world.” She took the proffered glass. “Since you have my back…” She winked at Emma, “You could always join me in Sonora.” Cissnei knew she already mentioned it, but she did not formally extend an invitation. “It’s the closest to Midgar I’ve found.” She looked down at her wine glass, at her reflection in the red liquid. She was home sick, but she wouldn’t admit it. “The technology there is excellent, and I need some help with the investigations.” Cissnei was only one person. If the cases started rolling in, then she’d have a backlog. “It isn’t quite what we had at Shinra, but I am hoping to at least make a name for us. Show them what its like to be under Turk turf.” She smiled at how she used a phrase she was sure Reno once coined.

mma rolled her eyes.
"Yes, well, there are not enough hours in the day to successfully preform that job." Emma replied haughtily. She was kidding, of course. Mostly. Despite certain flaws, Reno was actually quite capable when it came down to it and was reliable when it came to mission time. He just wasn't very professional otherwise, which was contrast to Emma's preference. And Alvis... well, maybe he'd get there one day. Or maybe he did already, Emma wouldn't know. She hadn't seen him in years. Next, Emma had to smirk at Cissnei's remark that their job had been fun. She didn't know if that was the word she would use for their line of work, but she had certainly loved it. She had just fit it, like a puzzle piece attaching to it's place in the picture. It felt right and she had been happy.
"It's closer to Midgar? Archaic Wutai was closer to Midgar than this dark age level society where plumbing would be considered a luxury." Emma replied with a grimace, "I would be more than happy to go to this Sonora if it's the most advanced place around." So far, Emma had arrived in a desert, wandered a forest, found nothing but farm villages, and ended up in a city out of a fantasy novel. She was dying for some real civilization, but had thought it unlikely she would find anything that could be compared to Midgar based on what she had seen so far. If this Sonora had technology that Cissnei could refer to as 'excellent' than it had to be a huge step up. It was a bit odd that one place was so much more advanced, but this world was strange all around.
"And... I would absolutely love to investigate something. I'm craving it. When we walked into this room, I profiled everyone in it. I could do with a real outlet, so please go ahead and sign me up." Emma said, her tone shifting to almost a desperate whine as she spoke. Cissnei's work sounded perfect and that was what she really needed right now. Nothing was going to make her feel more like a Turk again than doing the job, even if it wasn't exactly the same thing. Close enough.
"Some old guy in the corner has been checking you out since we sat down, by the way." she added. Well, that dress of hers was certainly an attention grabber.
Cissnei only grinned at Emma’s reference to plumbing here. “We’ve had to tolerate worse. Especially during long stakeouts.” It was not always a glamourous job. But someone had to the dirty work. “Sonora has electricity at least. Its freezing, but there’s ways to keep warm. They don’t use mako though.” She shook her head, “Something called diamond dust, I think? I need to do some research and find out what that is.”
Cissnei elapsed for something. It wasn’t Midgar. She was homesick for it. Did it even survive Meteor? She was afraid to ask. Sonora only quelled some of that ill.
Cissnei’s face lit up and she pressed both her palms together in pleasure. So, Emma felt the same as her? Desperate to do SOMETHING. “Excellent. Then, I will see you in Sonora. It won’t be hard to find me again. Phones don’t work well here, but in Sonora we can fix our phones to the signals there. It will help us keep in touch within city limits anyway.” There was more to the agency, but she didn’t want to discuss it here, per se. “Plus…I have some ideas to help us move forward to be a little closer to the structure we had before. It will take time and energy, but maybe the payoff will be worth it.”
Then she paused and looked around the garden at the people. The faerie lights decorated the rose bushes. The gazebo was full of people in the moonlight. “Profiled everyone here, hm? Even with all the masks on?” Cissnei was curious of course. “I want a full report in the morning.” Cissnei teased trying to mimic Tseng.
Cissnei raised a brow and side eyed the man Emma talked about. “I mean. Can you blame him? I caught that same look from you when I was singing.” Cissnei gave a coy grin as she took a drink from her wine. She lightly elbowed Emma. “You’ve profiled him though? Do you think he has any useful information? Should we use this to our advantage? Or should we show him we’re uninterested?”

mma nodded as Cissnei described Sonora. Yes, that sounded far more preferable to Torensten. This power source sounded interesting too. Some kind of dust? They really would need to look into it. Energy sources, particularly in places like Sonora sounded, where the best methods of control. That was how Shinra took over Midgar in the first place. The people that controlled this dust would be people in power, no doubt.
"I did notice about the phones. And I'm sure I can find the place. That kind of thing is part of the job, after all." Emma replied. Tracking down a location based on little intel was just one of her many specialties. She'd find it, "And I look forward to hearing your ideas when I arrive then and we can get all the located Turks together for a meeting." she said. Maybe there would be even more by that point, who knew? Cissnei then commented on Emma saying she had profiled everyone and made a joke. Emma smirked a bit. Cissnei may have been joking, but...
"Profiling through a mask can be an important skill. I'm studying chins, lips, teeth, any markings or scars, odd hairs. Hair on the head if they're not wearing a wig, as some clearly are. Eye color and shape as seen through the holes, eyebrows if they're visible. And the slightest twitching of muscles while they react in their conversations. Then there's voices, tones and pitches, mannerisms, the way they laugh or gasp, body shapes and language. Topics of conversations have mostly ranged from money, politics, the party, gossip, and one woman who talks endlessly about her dog. If I scouted Torensten some more after, I could probably identify all of them and set up proper profiles for records." Emma said. She was pretty confidant about that. And no one had ever accused her of not being thorough. Though Cissnei continued with her teasing. Emma looked away haughtily as she blushed.
"I-I did not have that look!" Emma protested. She may have been wearing a striking dress that hugged her slender curves the right way paired with the dulcet tones of her singing but, uh... Emma took a drink, "I was merely profiling you like everyone else. I needed to make sure it was you before I approached." she added. Emma cleared her throat and addressed the man who was wearing an expression that was most certainly not like anything Emma had ever worn herself. For sure.
"Hard to say about him though. He's just been watching you since we came in. He hasn't spoken so I don't know what he might know. He carries himself well enough, and he gives the impression that he thinks he has a chance with you, which implies self confidence. What's giving him that air is unknown though. For all we know, he simply read his horoscope for today and it said he'd meet true love in red and actually believes such nonsense." Emma said, "The only way to find out if he knows something important would be to interrogate him. Well, his attention is on you. So it's your call." she finished.
It was indeed part of their job. Using scarce intel to find the impossible. The only issue is they were not united in a single purpose to do so. Things have changed greatly over the years. Where Cissnei would try to be the cohesion between members, she would be unable to fill what Veld or Tseng could do. What’s worse, they had no one to serve but themselves. They would need to even go further and find an organization or leader to serve. Or so Cissnei felt. But for now, they could only gain in intel and power until the time to decide formalities came.
Cissnei seemed a little surprised Emma took her joke so seriously. Once the feeling faded, Cissnei softened into a warm smile. Emma took her job seriously, and Cissnei sincerely listened to how she profiled the masked persons. Cissnei could really listen all night. She missed these conversations greatly. Cissnei chuckled as she finished. “Never change.” When she was done chuckling, she gave a slight nod. “We could use more intel on Torensten. If you can scope it out, it would be a great addition to our intel of this world.”
Cissnei eased back on her teasing, though Emma’s reaction told her enough, without needing to jab. Thank goodness Freyra was not here. She would have been relentless in it. Cissnei responded to Emma’s protests with a coy, “Is that so?” A knowing grin tracing her lips as she ran her finger along the edge of her glass. When Cissnei profiled Emma, she had also looked away and blushed. “And when you are observing me, who do you think I’m observing?” Cissnei could list all the observations she made of Emma in this short time. She was changed from the time outside of Shinra, but at the same time, she was still same. Cissnei bit back teasing her with what she noticed Emma does when she’s outside her comfort zone. For now.
She gave Emma an approving nod. “Interrogate is such a harsh word. How about I have a nice chat with him instead?” She shifted off her seat and set aside her glass back on the bar. In its place, she requested two drinks. One for herself and one for the man making eyes at her. As she waited, she nodded to Emma. “If I need help, I will push my hair behind my ear. You can come and get me as if he was interrupting a moment with my girlfriend.” She nodded to the bartender and took the glasses from him. “I’ll tap my glass, if I need to talk longer and I will catch up with you later.”
Cissnei gave her a wink and a slight wave of the glass before walking over to the man Emma spoke of. He wore a mask that covered the upper half of his face in black and gold. He was certainly older, though more likely late forties. She could already see the gray at his temples. He carried himself quite well in formal attire, but nothing about his outfit suggested ranking. This was not surprising considering the party was supposed to have guests remain anonymous.
Politely Cissnei offered him a drink, so that he may savor it with her. He seemed to melt into the offer and they began to discuss who they were without exchanging names at first. He was from Sonora and worked as some rank in the Sonoran guard. This peaked Cissnei’s interest. Possible favors could be had between the Turks and the Sonoran militia if she played her cards right.
She tapped her finger along her glass. A signal to Emma.

mma gave a nod.
"I'll take a look around after then." she confirmed. Cissnei then teased her again, "I would assume you're observing everyone." Emma deflected simply. Cissnei decided to play the subtle approach and use the man's attraction to fish for information. She nodded again.
"Sounds good. If you don't need me, I'll scout around a bit more. We can meet by the food table. Good luck." she replied. Emma watched Cissnei walk away for a moment, then turned and watched through the reflection behind the bar. Cissnei went to work with her flirting and the man easily sunk into whatever act she was putting on. They talked a bit, Emma ever watchful in case she was needed. Soon enough, however, Cissnei tapped her glass - her signal that she was going to pursue this lead further and didn't need the out. Emma finished off her drink and then got to her feet. She straightened her suit and, without looking their way, walked out of this area and on to her next task. Hopefully Cissnei could get some decent info out of the man. In the meantime though, Emma needed to see if she could find some other potential leads to work off of. And then a food break when they met up again.
This party might not have any nefarious plots going on, but the whole thing was just odd to Emma and there had to be something happening behind the scenes. Why gather so many people in one place? A distraction while something else was going on? They said it was to increase moral since this city had some bad luck with attacks of some kind recently. But why spend funds on a party? Were the people in charge that rich? Generally people who were that rich got that way because they didn't throw it all around wantonly. And Emma didn't really thing anyone was that generous either. Maybe she was just accustomed to Shinra, but in her experience people in power didn't act generously without some kind of benefit for themselves in the plan. And whatever that plan was, they would figure it out. And from there, hopefully use that information to increase their own standing in the world. First things first, however. Skipping steps only made you fall. Emma headed off, scanning everything she passed for any more potential clues.
