She knew, knew better than anyone how strong bonds could be. They could withstand seperation by world, they could survive the worst hardships... The most painful moments. She was sure that this was just something similar. Bartz' memory lost was another test of those bonds, another hurdle to overcome. Of that she was certain. She and Faris would help him, that was a big goal. Of course making their own life here was a must as well, Krile wasn't so focused she coudn't see that. Faris from what she could see had alresdy done a good job of getting hers underway, and she had taken her under her wing. But, she still needed to have her own thung to do while Faris was out doing the jobs she coudn't go on yet. She'd need more experience and guidence from her friend. Until then.... She'd need something to help out.
So of course she took up helping people commincate with their pets, their steeds or really most animal someone needed to understand better. She had only just started learning the pirate life from Faris after all, it would take time before she could be brought on a full scale looting or anything like that. Untio then this was something she liked doing, helping people always felt nice. She remebered doing it for her friends, now she was for others.
Wasn't Faris due to be back soon? It was the day he said he likely would be anyway. She should finish this up then.... She didn't want to keep her friend waiting. The advice for this pair? She tild the man not to feed her chocobo choclate, but the food it actuslly needed, likely preventing all the wild outbursts it seemed to be having. That wasn't the weirdiest thing though, that would be the guy who insisted on dueling his pet bird. That one she still found odd.
Even odder that the bird had a ten to nothing win streak against its owner!
Finally she came back to the Inn they were currently staying at. In a way it was nastolgic, living thia way again. So many times the four of them stayed at Inns like this when they traveled. It was weird in a way, their wasn't much left for her in their world. She would miss her people of course, but she wasn't going to be the one to rule them anyway. Really the only thing still there was her Wind Drake and her Grandpa's grave... She coudn't bring them here though.
Would Grandpa be ashamed of how easy it was for her to live here? Or haopy she was living well? The way he was... She was sure it was the latter, it had to he right? She wws safe... Happy.. she was with people who cared about her... Thats what he would want right?
She took a seat at a near by table and waited. She had finished all her work for now, and Faris shoudn't be to much longer. So she would just wait down here in the lobby for him. The younger warrior ordered herself a drink and smiled brightly as she stared at her reflection in the liquid.
Of course he would be happy for her.

Faris is worried
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Bartz walked beside him. It felt like a dream. Where have you been? Faris wanted to shout it at him. Who are you now? Why did you leave me alone? But those were questions best saved for a heavy night of drinking when his spirits were low and his dignity lower. Instead, Faris walked with his back straight and his eyes straight ahead. He’d take Bartz to Krile. That was all there was left.
Krile would be thrilled. He hadn’t been lying when he’d said it. The girl thought of Bartz as a brother, and a stint of amnesia wouldn’t mean a thing to her. Still, part of Faris wanted to grab Bartz by the shoulders, turn him around, and wheel him anywhere but here. Krile still awoke gasping at night from the fear that she’d be left behind. She still held her grandfather dear to her heart, and to have more family follow in his footsteps would only break the resolve she’d built since. Had he made the right decision? Faris didn’t know, but he’d made the one Krile would have wanted, and that was enough for him.
Faris hesitated outside the inn’s door. It was a shabby affair that felt perfect to Faris but that might’ve sent others running. He glanced at Bartz, hesitating, before he opened the door. It wasn’t like Bartz’ standards were set high or even existed. He’d have been just as happy sleeping in a stable on a mound of hay.
”I don’t want to see you darting off again,” Faris said as he rounded the bar tables and started up the stairs. ”This isn’t about me. It’s about Krile. You go running off without us and it’ll break her heart. She’ll think you don’t want a thing to do with her.”
Faris slowed to a stop outside their room. The door stood before them like the last pass before shore. Bartz didn’t want a thing to do with her. With either of them really, but here Faris was pretending and roping Bartz into the act while he was at it. What would Lenna have said if she could have looked Faris in the eye? He wished he knew.
The key scraped in its lock and then the door was open. Faris stepped inside and looked around, almost dreading finding her. ”Krile? I’ve got a mighty surprise for you.” Faris grabbed Bartz and yanked him inside so he wouldn’t dawdle. ”Look what I found washed up by the tides. I had a time getting him here too.”
I wanta be the only one for miles and miles except for maybe you and your simple smile
Bartz stayed a few paces behind Faris as they walked towards the inn, and Bartz felt his stomach twist with every step. He wasn't one to turn up a free room for the night, but there was way too much pressure for him to feel comfortable in exchange. Bartz put his hands behind his head as they continued towards the shady inn that Faris had booked for him and his friend, and Bartz began to do a little whistle to calm his nerves. He felt a prisoner being taken to his jail cell. What if Faris was lying, and they would just pretend to help him find Boko to feed into this weird fantasy the two had thought up. Bartz rubbed the back of his head as he wondered if they'd take turns keeping watch over him so he couldn't just sneak away in the middle of the night. Still his word was his word, and Bartz would keep by it. They'd find Boko and sort this whole mess out.
"Sure," Bartz replied as Faris went on about Krile and her feelings. It seemed funny to Bartz that Faris hadn't once stopped Bartz to ask how he felt about this whole ordeal. He didn't want to intentionally hurt anyone or their feelings ,but he too was confused, upset he wasn't being believed, and really itching to just keep wandering. Still, "Three sets of eyes is better than one. No need to pass that up." For now. Bartz shrugged as they went up the stairs to the room that the two were staying in. As the key jingled "You'll tell her about our deal then, right?" He asked as the door would swing open and Faris introduced him as some trinket he had found by the beach
Bartz walked in with a small wave in the girl's direction. Yeahp sure as day that was the same girl who had harassed him the whole time they were trying to help out the chocobo farmer. "Um, hey," he said stepping in the room scratching as his wrist to distract himself from the awkwardness of the situation. He walked over to a table by the bed and ran his finger across it rubbing the dust between his fingers and concentrating on that. "Uh, nice place you guy's have, better than a pile of leaves." Bartz didn't know what to say or do, so he just paced around the room until one of them would address him further repeating his dusting process.
"I dunno.. I said before I'm just not sure the pirate garbs look good on me. Maybe if the coats wearn't so..."
Krile stopped as she turned around and Faris finished her statement. At first the young blonde was stunned, only able to stare at who Faris had brought with him. She would follow the man brought to her as he moved across the room, as he greeted her. Was she seeing things? No... No he was there. He was right there in front of her. She found herself not caring whether or not he remebered her right now. No she ran to the free spirit immeditly pulled the part of him she could reach into a tight hug.
"Bartz!"
All that mattered to her right now was that he was here. Faris had really found him... She was just... So happy to see him again. Memory or not Bartz was her close friend, like family to her. She found herself clinging to him for a bit there, tears of happiness coming from her eyes as she did so. the joy was clear in her eyes as she did so. She just coudn't help herself! When she did pull away she looked back to Faris with a bright smile.
"He's really here? Does he remeber us yet...? No it doesn't matter right now!"
The girl was giddy despite her last meeting with Bartz. Their was so much that could have happened, especiully after their failed search before. She knew more than likely her sense would trigger again before he was in any danger but... She still worried, she coudn't help it. Bartz, Lenna and Faris were the only family she had left, even if they didn't all ferl the same. Besides... Bartz made a promise to her by her Grandpa's grave. She knew how he was about that sort of thing so... Even if he coudn't remeber now she wasn't going to let it become a lie.
They would always be connected, always be friends.
She coudn't help but laugh at his words. Memory or no memory Bartz would always be Bartz.
"Yeah Faris usually picks the rooms, speciully when an Innkeeper is picky about renting to a minor, It's not as roomy as mom and dad's castle back in my world but I'm not to picky about that, we've stayed in lots of Inns anyway!"
Though... Something occured to her. Something that in her joy at seeing Bartz she hadn't considered. She would turn on her heel, tapping her chin with curiosoity as she looked between them, thinming about the various ways it could have happened before finally putting her hands on her hips and just blurting it out.
"So if Bartz still doesn't remeber us... How did you get him to come? He wasn't exactly willing before right? I mean what did you do charm him? Offer a dance? Oh oh I know, you beat him in a drinking contest! Doubt anyone could beat you at that Faris"
She gave a chuckle at her words, they were said jokingly, though she really was curious about how Bartz was actually convinced to come. He was so against it before, heck he even ran away from Faris before!
"So... Whats different now? Does he belive us or... Does he need help with something..?"
Their was no venom in her voice. Just geninue curiosity. If Bartz did need help Krile would be there for him in an instant, no questions asked-same as she would be for all her friends. Their were so many times they helped her, so many times Bartz had.
He may have forgotten, but she never would.

Boko is the key to everything
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
Faris’ heart sank. Bartz was just as uncomfortable as he’d expected and Krile was just as excited. He’d known it was coming, but that didn’t make it any better. Again, he wondered if he’d done the right thing. Again, he shoved the thought aside. What was done was done and now there was nothing to do but deal with the wreckage.
Krile grabbed Bartz in a hug. He’d just love that right about now. Faris tried to keep his expression from going too grave. Now that he had his head on straight, he could tell just how hard this was on Bartz, and it didn’t give Faris any pleasure to be the one laying it on him. It would only lead to bad times all around, but if he’d kept it from Krile…
Faris crossed his arms and grinned. ”Aye, there’s not a soul alive who can outdrink me. Let alone this lout.” He tried for a playful look to Bartz. Hopefully it’d lighten up his mood a little, at least before he brought it down again.
”Now here’s the way of it. Bartz’ head is about as empty as a box of air. He still doesn’t remember a thing, and he doesn’t believe we’ve met either. Even though we know just about everything about him and his crystal.” Faris eyed Bartz moodily. ”But he’s after that chocobo of his, and he wants the help. Once he’s got it, he’s leaving it to the bird to decide where he’ll be staying.”
Faris barely strangled a groan. That was the way of it then. Even if it had found its way here, even if they managed to wander its way, their fates still hung from the whims of a bird. That damned Boko…
Boko.
”Wait!” Faris perked up, eyes alight with realization. He turned on Bartz and put his hands on his hips. ”When you asked! You said to find Boko, but you never said a thing about who that was! I knew Boko in an instant! I told you he was a chocobo!” Faris leaned forward, mouth sour with doubt. ”Do you believe we knew you now?”
I wanta be the only one for miles and miles except for maybe you and your simple smile
Bartz was busying himself with straightening something already pretty aligned when he felt himself be accosted by the young girl. "Um," he'd protest as he groaned looking for an out as he fidgeted against the embrace. His foot started bouncing as he waited to be released, his eyes darting around for any way of escape. Still, she let go after what seemed to be an eternity, and he let out a sigh of relief louder than he had anticipated.
Bartz simply nodded as Krile would talk about the room accommodations. "Uhhuh, yeahp," he would nod. Was this girl trying to tell him he had been friends with some kind of princess? Well that was just about as unrealistic as having saved the world with this party crystal, but that wasn't for him to decided anymore. He'd made a promise that Boko would be the one to clarify all this up. He tried to wiggle his eyebrows at Faris to hurry this along and get to the point of things. Still as the man would talk about how much a lout and how empty headed he was, Bartz would frown and cross his arms. He'd never talk about Boko like that. "For being such a friend, you sure do talk about me like I'm not one."
Still, "Yeahp. If Boko says he remembers you guys, then I guess I'll admit defeat." Bartz shrugged as he began to make his way to the door. "Well, I say we better get going. No point in wasting any time here, I say." No point in keeping on talking about things he didn't remember and feelings he didn't feel. His hand had just reached the doorknob when Faris would interrupt about how he knew Boko was a chocobo
"Hmm," Bartz pursed his lips as his brow furrowed in though. "I must have slipped it in at some point," he said shrugging. Still even if that were true Bartz tried to picture the three of them anywhere else rather than this simple inn room. "So, maybe you do know me, but how does that make us friends at all? To be honest I'm not really the type to go out of my way to help out where it's not my business."
Bartz shrugged again as he walked over to the window. Faris had been right it had taken most of the day to walk back to the city and night was settling in. "Well, maybe we can wait til the morning. Wouldn't want to wake him up if we found him tonight. Well then bout time I book me a room, right?" Bartz began to cross the room when he blushed putting his hands behind his head. "Um either of you guys got a few gil to spare?" Bartz flashed his best smile his eyes closing in embarrassment.
It took nothing more than knowing her friend needed help for Krile to spring into action. While she of course listened to the rest of what Faris said she had already begun gathering items from her small storage. Blade? Rod? What classes would be useful for tracking down Boko? All these things came to mind, Even if Bartz didn't remeber her she was more than willing to help him find Boko. Bartz did remeber Boko, which mean't she could at least help him find someone he still considered a friend. Bartz was so akward around her now...
She wanted to show him they wearn't lying. She didn't like the feeling much, the feeling that someone you cared about so much thought you were lying right to their face. She could never do that to them, not about something as serious as this. So if hearing it straght from the bird's mouth was what it took for him to belive her and Faris she was more than help. The worse case was that Bartz was reunited with his old friend after all. Ether way... She was helping right?
But she hoped none the less Boko was the key they needed.
She coudn't help but giggle when Faris caught Bartz about Boko, she laughed even more at Bartz' counter to it. Maybe their was... Something there, all she could really do was hope for this to work. It had to right? They all had connections with trusted animal companions. If their was a last resort to making Bartz belive them... Yes this had to work.
"Oh come on, thats a weak exuse even for you Bartz!"
Her laugh calmed down, then sighed. He had them there. But... Their journey together.... It had made exceptions. Bartz had been willing to help Lenna, help her Grandpa... He had been willing to stop Exdeath alongside them.
"Jeez... Is this what dealing with Grandpa's amensia was like for you guys Faris?"
She looked to Faris with a smile, knowing her grandpa things had likely been more goofy, but just as hectic at times. It was only when Bartz suggested waiting the night that Krile noticed how late it was, with a sigh she began returning her items back to her storage. When she got up Bartz (being Bartz) requested gil for his own room. Now why did they need to that?
"Why don't you just share a bed with Faris? We used to share the same Inn room anyway, that way we save Gill to!"
She had no worries of Bartz running away now, least not until they found Boko. His word was his bind, and he had promised to see this through. In truth... The more friends with her the better she felt, memory or not.
Boko was one lucky chocobo... Maybe Bartz didn't usually get into other peoples buisness, but no matter how this turned out she would treasure every time he had for her.

SEE I CAN WRITE DRUNK
You've got a lot of brass, or mayhap you're just lacking in brains!
”Slipped it in?” Faris leaned in, a scowl at his lips. ”You’ve not done a thing like it.” Still, he’d seen enough of this kind of talk that he could only throw his hands in the air and shake his head. ”Fine, if you’re determined to think the worst, I’ll not say another word about it! That bird’ll come around and you’ll see soon enough for yourself!”
Or would he? Had Boko ever taken to Faris? Faris couldn’t remember a single word he'd spoken to the thing. Dread grew at the bottom of his stomach as he fought a groan. Their fates held by a string at the edge of a chocobo’s beak. Maybe he’d remember Krile a little more fondly.
”He was a right hero, the Bartz I knew. An airhead, but a hero. I didn’t know him from the start, but I knew him well enough for that.” Faris shot Bartz another scathing look before he let out a deep sigh. ”Aye, mayhap you’re not the same. But you’ve got the same spirit in you, I know.”
Faris shoved his hair behind his bandanna and shook his head. ”Galuf? I never knew him with his right head on before he got it back again. Lenna and Bartz met him at the meteor, I think, and then I got him on the way to the Wind Shrine. He remembered you in a second though. You crashed in right when we needed you most.” Faris tried for a grin in Krile’s direction. It helped to hide his own unease.
This won’t work. The thought swam like a shadow below the waves. Bartz is hurting. Look at him. Faris shoved it under until it drowned. There was no use doubting now.
”Eh?” Faris blinked at Krile. Twice. ”Share a bed?” Faris paused, repeating it to himself, before he burst out laughing. ”And watch his head burst? He’s had just about enough of us, I think.” Faris tossed Bartz a teasing grin. ”Aye, I’d’ve not thought twice in the day, but you’ve been shifting up a storm. You say you’re not the same Bartz? Then I’ll not bed with a stranger.” Faris reached into his pocket and shoved a handful of gil into his palm.
”It’s ill-gotten anyway. I’ll expect you to help me repay it. I lost at least a hundred gil on that mark on the road. You and your dancing.”
I wanta be the only one for miles and miles except for maybe you and your simple smile
Bartz continued to try to occupy himself with anything, but the two people before him as they began to talk of another person. A someone who had suffered amnesia. Bartz kept quiet not wanting to stir up any more trouble or risk losing out on a place to stay the night but what he wanted to say was that wouldn't he not remember anything if he had amnesia? He knew who he was, and what he was doing before waking up in the middle of that field. It wasn't as if he were going around asking every person he met if they knew who he was. He just crossed his arms before pacing back and forth as he waited to see if either of them would give him some money.
"Do what?!" Bartz stammered as the younger girl suggested that he sleep with Fairs. "I, uh, but," he couldn't really get the words out as his face burned bright red and he looked at the two of them as if this one was some big joke. "I," but thankfully before he had to run out of the room in embarrassment, Faris agreed that this was not a good idea. Bartz took a deep calming breath and laughed as he rubbed the back of his head and inhaled through his teeth. He felt even more relief as Faris handed him a fistful of gil. It was more than enough to pay for a room he though, but he nodded and smiled all the same. "Um, yeah sure. Thanks, man."
He smiled before walking backwards toward the door. "Well then," he started, "Let's get some shut eye. We've got a big day tomorrow! I can't wait to see Boko again if we can find the sly beast." He gave a genuine laugh as he thought of the talking to he would give his bud for just running about. Unless he wasn't here. Bartz pushed the thought from his mind as he turned the door handle. "Well good night, hopefully we'll get this mess sorted out soon enough," he said before slipping out the door and a spare room from the innkeeper.
Krile listened to the words of Faris. The words of Bartz as a hero. Like Faris she hadn't been their for the entire journey. But... She had seen Bartz. She had seen him for who he developed into if nothing else. She saw him through the exprences her Grandpa had in this world. She saw him through the wonderful moments they shared as friends. Bartz didn't remeber those moments now. She... Wasn't sure he cared to. He coudn't remeber the promise he made, that together with Faris and Lenna formed the anchor that kept her steady after the last of her blood family passed away. That day they became her family. In her heart that would always remain the case.
Whether he remebered or not
"Bartz will always be Bartz, memory or no..."
A timid smile crossed her face, an attempt to hide the turmoil of emotion inside. She belived fully in the words she said. Bartz was Bartz... No matter what happened that would aleayd be the case. He was her family, whether he knew that or not. Boko was part of that family to, like strings tying each of them together. As annoying as it was that she coudn't trigger Bartz' memory herself she understood why Boko could. She did trust in the chockobo for this... Trusted he could make this right.
"I belive in Boko, he's a wonderful chocobo.. He'll show You the truth Bartz that much I know"
A smile from Faris eased her swirling emotions somewhat, but they were still there. She returned her smile with one of her own. Faris... How did he feel about all this? She knew she was just as frustrated with his memory loss of course but... She wanted to sit down and discudd everything with him.
She needed to be able to with someone
'He's had just about enough of us I think'
The words struck her, harder than anything else Faris said despite it's teasing tone. It struck her because it was true. Krile cared about Bartz like a brother, she would go to the ends of the earth for him, Faris and Lenna. But Bartz didn't feel the same, at least not anymore. His want of them, or sa the very least his only want of her was to help find Boko. He didn't know them anymore and as much as she wanted it to be so she didn't think Boko proving them right would magicully make his memory come back.
But... She would still help him, it was what she needed to do, for her friend.
"Yeah... Your probaly right"
She laughed half heartidly to try and keep the mood, but the truth of Faris' word stirred deep inside her. But even if Bartz hadn't meant to he still managed to help stave off her sadness with his laugh, his smile. It stirred memories of the four of them, their time together in her heart. Her smile became geninune as she looked back to Faris.
"Gosh he's gonna be a handful isn't he? I'm gonna have to laugh when Boko proves us right though~"
She sighed, shaking her head. It was getting late though.
"He's right though... Tommorow will be a long day... Best to get rest while we can right captian?"
It was her turn to tease her friend, they were part of the same crew... The same family after all. With a bit more pep in her step she moved towards her bed, taking her place under the covers of her own bed. Memories pased through her mind. Their journey their words... Specoficully the ones that sparked a new journey all together. Two simple words that held more importance than anyone knew. She closed her eyes, this night the nightmares would not plaugue her. This night her dreams would be free.
