[attr="class","acebottomadventu"]
[attr="class","acetextadventu"] It all happened so quickly. One moment, Crowe was running towards Yeul and the next…she was simply gone. Only a ripple in the world around them, magic stirring then slumbering, hinted towards what had occured. He’d like to think he hadn’t jumped, but when he turned on his heels to face the spirit, fingers encircling around a summoned card, he found himself closer to Ardyn than he’d originally remembered. A click of his tongue, another moment’s hesitation, and he lashed out…[break][break]
Only to halt his action when the girl - Yeul, he told himself - called out to him. A brief glance back and he was stunned to see her; though she looked nothing like his sister, there was something about her that…reminded him of Deuce. Slowly, his arm fell back to his side, the card dissolving into sparkles of light, and he stepped towards her. ”Y-yeah.” Ace replied, his voice hesitant and quiet. ”She was here.” [break][break]
For some odd reason, he felt the need to reach out to her, to console her and ensure that she wouldn’t break down - but he stopped himself from taking another step forwards. This isn’t Deuce. He thought, bitterly. This isn’t someone I know. He didn’t need to console her, he didn’t need to be near her. He didn’t need to care. So why did he feel otherwise?[break][break]
The conflict he felt showed - in his furrowed brows, his twisted lips, his fisted hands - but he was quick to turn his gaze from the girl, refusing to allow anyone else see him in that state for any longer. Instead, he looked back up at the spirit, pondering the words it had spoken as it sent Crowe away. To make their choice as one - all four of them had to agree on…on…what was it, exactly, that they had to agree on? To use the crystal’s power for harmony or chaos? Good or evil?[break][break]
His gaze flicked to the ground. That meant each of them had to decide on why they sought the crystal’s power and he questioned himself - why did he want it. Did he even need it? His thoughts travelled back to his original reason for coming here, before he met his new teammates at the tavern. Right…I wanted…to see everyone again, to go home. I was curious about it. Everyone said it was new and if it never happened before, it must be due to all of us arriving here, from other worlds…so I thought it’d be able to shed light on my questions…[break][break]
Ace was still wrapped up in his thoughts when the male stranger’s voice cut through them - “For what purpose would you use its power?” For what- He blinked, turning to the man, surprised he asked the same question he was just asking himself. My purpose… He simply shook his head when the man’s gaze fell upon him - he had no desire to share his wishes with this man and he wondered (a passing thought, nothing he focused too much on) why all the new male travellers he met that day gave arouse in him a strange feeling of uneasiness. And why all the chatty ones had to take an interest in him.[break][break]
His distaste of the man is clear - it shows as he takes a step backwards, towards Ardyn. There’s comfort (albeit little) in being close to someone he called a teammate, someone he knew (at least more so than this stranger dressed like a guard). Deference is, once again, given to the elder as he moved, quickly, behind Ardyn (off to his side, not directly behind), waiting on the man to take the lead. [break][break]
Choose as one, harmony or chaos… He wondered how many more would have to disappear before the remainder could agree on a cause. ”…perhaps we don’t.” Ace wouldn’t have said anything had it not seemed as if Ardyn was about to do battle - he’d prefer to avoid it where he could. ”If it’s asking us to choose…then if we agree as one to a single…reason for our taking of the crystal, it seems that it would give it up without a fight. Harmony…or chaos…” The last words are spoken in a murmur, nothing more than a reminder of the choice they were given - he didn’t think the spirit cared so much for the exact reason they wanted the crystal, rather where their wishes were aligned on a general scale. Him…perhaps harmony…?
The spirit waits, fluctuating between its several forms with an almost patient darkness. It has no eyes, but seems to watch the four standing before it -- waiting for their decision. The wind continues to blow its icy gales at the group, and the tower gives an unsettling sway against it. The crystal shines with anticipation.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]“Y-Yeah…She was here.” The blonde replied against the chilling wind. Yeul found herself lowering her head even more after his response; the edges of her fingers buried in ice beginning to turn blue.
“Ah…” Was what she replied with, her hot exhale tingling her chattering lips. Had Crowe been unworthy in the eyes of the specter? Sherlotta as well? Reuniting with Crowe would prove to be much more laborious than Yeul had assumed, seeing how now it was entirely possible her companion had been teleported to the other ends of the earth.
Something touched her shoulder, something warm. The Seeress cast her eyes towards the owner of the hand, who ended up being Mateus. "Ours is a vision of unity for this disjointed land." He said as the Seeress took note that the other man, the impatient one, was a ways off, staring at the crystal.
Yeul rose from her spot upon the ground, her knees banging against one another as she did. “Are we to make it our enemy? And here I’d hoped I wouldn’t have to work so hard.” Spoke the other man.
“Enemy?” She echoed, turning towards the man, her voice and face still monotone, “There is no need for that. As long as a compromise is reached, no blood shall be spilled.”
Thankfully, the boy who’d appeared with Crowe (whom she prayed was safe, wherever she landed) agreed with her statement. “…it seems that it would give it up without a fight. Harmony…or chaos…”
“That must refer to our ideologies.” Yeul replied to him but also talked to the others. “The High Mage said something to that extent as well. It must be that the crystal will create harmony or chaos…”
It seemed the boy and Mateus would be willing to agree to her harmonious wishes. Perhaps if she formally introduced herself and her wish…
“I am Paddra-Nsu Yeul, the Seeress of my world.” She said against the wind, warmth welling up in her chest to combat the cold. “I was called to the claim the crystal by the voice of my Guardian. I believe that if I touch the crystal I may be blessed to see the future of this world. I wish for peace for this world and my own…Harmony.” She stated, definitively. “And what of you all?”
In truth, Yeul wanted to be the one to formally take the crystal from the specter. Perhaps the tangible touch would trigger her vision? Besides, if another took it, there was the possibility she’d never have the chance to have the vision.
Caius had told her to take the crystal, and she planned on doing so.
[attr="class","natag"]440 ● @dust AceArdyn Izunia ● Yeul taking a stand (or trying to)
Mateus watched Yeul as she dealt with the pain of losing someone she had been seeking. He wondered if there was anyone that he would have reacted to as strongly if they were the one to appeared instead of that girl. Did anyone care where he was? He didn't linger on though, the taste of bile swimming in his mouth and strange unpleasant feeling in his chest as he thought about it. Now was not the time to wonder though of inconsequential emotions; now was the time to act.
His grip loosened and fell as Yeul stood and steadied herself. It seemed that she had found the strength to continue even after her loss. The will of men to continue on, like a weed in a garden, had always been a thorn in his side during his reign, but here he took as the opportunity it was. His eyes darted to the blonde boy as he retreated like a dog with its tail between its legs behind the more annoying of the new duo. There was something about the man that irked him. Perhaps it was the non nonchalant attitude he had as though this all was just a big inconvenience. Perhaps it was the fact Mateus knew he would be the hardest of the three to convince. A threat.
Violence was the man's answer to this conundrum. How base. Brute force alone solved nothing if the mind behind the hand had no plan. A disdainful chuckle escaped him as he gave the man a once over. Still, his reason for preventing the violence was one of self preservation. He was and had been of no use in a fight since he was summoned to this wretched place and he was still uneasy in his curative craft. Unless she was hiding a huge secret, he had little faith that Yeul would last long either. He had to prevent this; he was too close now to fail.
Yeul spoke before he could to the man. Good, she didn't want to fight either. The boy's words were lost to his ears, but it seemed he was not down for a brawl either. Two down, one to go. He hmmed as Yeul addressed the others with both her musings on phantom's meaning and her own introduction. She then asked the same of them. Holding his head up he would play along in her game, "Don't let this garish garb fool you, I am Emperor Mateus of Palalmecia. A vision of pain and awe came to me claiming the crystal's power was to be taken. I've been in these lands too long. I've seen the strife, the lawlessness, the crassness. My claim for the crystal, similar to the Seeress', would be to unite this land and bring the promised harmony to it." A harmony under his own fist but harmony none the less.
"I say we must decide quickly before the specter decides to toss another of us to the abyss," he muse aloud. What he meant was that hopefully, even if they're persuasions didn't work, whoever disagreed to the majority would displease the spirit's need for unification. It had been patient thus far, but he didn't feel like trying it any longer than need be. What other tricks or traps might it spring upon them? Mateus looked coldly up at the entity before looking back at the two across the way.
No one wanted to resort to violence. A pity as that certainly would be the fastest of options, but Ardyn stilled his hand regardless. The darkness within him thickened slowly with his own impatience, but it wouldn’t do to go slinging his power about recklessly. That was how he’d end up spending a century as a daemonic legend told to terrify children while he waited in hiding, relying on illusions to go on so much as a walk through the park. It was an inconvenience to say the least. And so, Ardyn waited.
His eyes slid from the boy -- who pleaded for compromise -- to the girl who reminded him suddenly of the Oracle with her straight back and commanding presence wrapped up in her delicate facade. The comparison soured on his tongue, and his eyes glinted with a predatory malice.
”I am Paddra-Nsu Yeul, the Seeress of my world,” she said with such benevolent self-importance that Ardyn could have sworn it was Lady Lunafreya standing against him, eyes burning with purifying fire. ”I was called to claim the crystal by the voice of my Guardian. I believe that if I touch the crystal I may be blessed to see the future of this world. I wish for peace for this world and my own…Harmony.” Oh yes, the resemblance was uncanny. Unbearable. And yet, if this girl was anything like the Oracle…
That made her useful. Dangerous, certainly, but useful nonetheless. What was that she’d said about seeing the future?
The peasant spoke next. He had an odd way of carrying himself, straight-backed, chin up, seething with pretense even dressed in foul-smelling rags. The result was like something out of a medieval street comedy. ”Don't let this garish garb fool you, I am Emperor Mateus of Palalmecia,” he said with so much self-importance that Ardyn couldn’t help a chuckle at the contrast. Garish wasn’t the word he would have used. The man -- an emperor apparently -- went on about his pained and glorious visions and his equally glorious plans for the country. He wished to unite it all under a single order. Ardyn smiled back at such reassuringly familiar speech. Unification had never been anything but a synonym for conquest.
That left him with two ambitious figures prime for misdirection and abuse. Oh, but who to grant his aid? The pure-blooded maiden with insight into the future or the would-be emperor with as little country as he had self-awareness?
Decisions, decisions….
”Now those ideas…” Ardyn started slowly. ”Are tempting.” He finally turned away from the crystal so as to give the two of them his full consideration. In truth, the girl’s power intrigued him far more than the opportunity to drive a budding empire into prominence, but her magic would likely become a double-edged sword.
Which would he choose? An insight into the gods or a position in the mortal world?
Was that even a question?
”A Seeress,” he repeated. ”Why, I’ve never heard of such a thing, but your task seems of utmost importance, doesn’t it? I’ve always had quite the interest in the future. Prophecies and revelations and the like. In my world, it would be nothing less than heresy to interfere with the sacred speakers of the gods.” He laughed again, darkly under his breath before shaking his head. ”If I must throw my hat into this ring then may it land at your feet, Lady Paddra. I’m dying to hear what the Astrals have to say for this.”

[attr="class","acetextadventu"] He didn’t have the best experiences with male rulers, especially of the emperor kind. In fact, he’s pretty sure all of them that he’d met have tried to kill him and his siblings in one way or another - framed by the King of Concordia, Emperor of Milites turning into the Rusan Arbiter…ah, well, that really wasn’t his choice now was it? And Cid hadn’t entirely been the proper Emperor…but technicalities. Regardless, he felt even less safe around Mateus and was only glad when he heard Ardyn’s choice. [break][break] Allying with Yeul? He agreed to that, at least, if the choice was only between the two of them. Even if there were certain aspects of her ideal that he couldn’t fully agree with (humans needed no divine aid, they could make their own choices, they should choose their own fate), the core ideal was something he couldn’t disagree with. For peace. ”Yeul should step forward.” Ace responded, quietly, arms crossing over his chest as he turned his gaze to the crystal.
As the argument continues, a strange tension fills the air. The draconic spirit continues its silent vigil, but it feels as though new eyes are watching the scene before it. The skies darken with a renewed wind, and in the distance, the clouds flash with lightning. The longer the conversation goes on, the heavier this feeling in the air as though some invisible force is watching from above, behind, even through them. Anyone with magical experience would recognize a powerful and foreign force gathering around them as though in anticipation.
As the wind rages on, a voice whispers to them. 'Protect this world,' it pleads of Yeul. 'Take what's yours,' it asks of Mateus and Ardyn. Ace hears nothing but wind and an odd muttering that could be anything.
[attr="class","nalyrics"]Pretending to be strong saying I'm not afraid of anything
[attr="class","nabody"]The horrendous wind began to pick up even more as Mateus revealed his identity to the other chosen travelers. Yeul’s long hair flew in front of her face as the wind whipped past the four. Passing the helmet to one hand, Yeul fixed her hair to stick behind her headdress.
It might be easier if I just wear this helm, she mused to herself as she caught the long strands in between her trembling fingers. However, she did not act on this thought, opting to simply keep holding it. It wasn’t that the Seeress was scared of it, per say, but she felt now was not the time. Not yet.
“Now those ideas…are tempting.” Said the red-haired man, his words seemingly twisting, curling, as he spoke them. His phrases reminded Yeul of the gamblers in the bars she’d passed by in the cities, calm and confident, yet sly. Though this man felt different for her; a certain poise in his articulated words seemed much more dignified than the gamblers. He may have had a questionable air about him, but Yeul sensed something within him that she trusted, albeit that something currently felt remarkable small. “If I must throw my hat into this ring then may it land at your feet, Lady Paddra. I’m dying to hear what the Astrals have to say for this.”
“Yeul should step forward.”
The Seeress’s eyes landed at the young boy. He was a quiet one, similar to the Seeress, so his vote of confidence for her struck her as much as the rising wind did. “Everyone…” She mumbled, her expressionless face hiding the welling emotion she felt within her chest.
And then there was another voice. The voice of the man who stood with his back to her. He was always standing away from her, surrounded by wildflowers. There was a beautiful planet hovering far up in the sky as the sun behind her elongated her shadow. The man, covered in armor, turned to face his Seeress, and Yeul prepared for the sudden dissolution of his figure.
But no. She saw her Guardian’s face, youthful in physicality but considerable aged beneath the pores. His purple eyes met her green ones as the two stood silently for a mere second that lasted a millennium. His lips parted and despite the distance between them, Yeul heard him loud and clear.
“Protect this world.”
And just like that, her home world had vanished. The flowers, perfect and alive, replaced by cold, jutting rocks. Once again, Caius was lost along with her true home. But instead of a longing feeling, Yeul felt what she could only describe as peace, as hope.
Over her blank visage, a smile crept across her chapped lips. A tear managed to emerge from one of her eyes, but the unforgiving wind was so strong that it whisked it away.
“If you are all content with me claiming the crystal, I shall do as such.” She told the gathered party, making sure to take the time to look them each in the eyes as she spoke, “Let us proceed for the harmony of this world, and that of our birth realms.”
And with that, she began towards the specter and its crystal. “Caius,” She spoke softly, “I’ll make you proud…I will protect this world with the same resolve you had for protecting me.”
The silver helm found its way from Yeul’s embrace to embracing Yeul’s head. It was a too tad too large and her headdress along with it added extra pressure to her crown, but it all seemed unimportant. That small smile still present, Yeul stood before the guard of the sought-after crystal. The Seeress was a mere few inches away from it. And so, slowly, she reached a hand out to the crystal.
[attr="class","natag"]631 ● @dust AceArdyn Izunia ● my girl is getting confidence!!!
So everyone had decided. It was to be Yeul who would be the carrier of the crystal. Still, the winds changed from agile and mountainous into something fierce and decisive as they cut into his barely clothed skin . "Take what is yours." The words brought the same anger and migraine that he felt when he first had heard the voice telling him to seek the crystal in the first place. Mateus clutched to his forehead as the word poured like a waterfall over him. No, Yeul would not be the only one to claim the crystal. Mateus believed in his cause too much.
"Yeul," he called knowing he would do what he needed to do despite her response. "We must both claim the crystal. I believe we must both attain to the crystal if both of our ideas of harmony should be attained." Mateus howled willing to fight any dissent, but to his great astonishment Yeul nodded and beckoned him forward to touch the crystal.
He looked at her with the helm atop her small head. He was surprised and wouldn't admit the sight caused him pause as he ascended to her level. His heart shot through with pain. Was this a trick? Mateus waited for some malicious spell to hit him but nothing happened. His chest resonated with the same pain, but a memory creeped to the forefront of his mind. That woman bloodied and bruised in the mountain shaft. Matues tried to get rid the memory with a shake of his head. Was this something similar? Were they actually to do this together.
His head shot back fast. He would be damned if either of the two others tried to disrupt what had just happened between him and Yeul. He would concede. He reached out one hand to the crystal waiting for Yeul's instruction. It was theirs to take . Even though he wished for a malicious intent, his fingers glowed with a curative power as his malicious gaze watched Ace and Ardyn.
”Everyone…” The girl was touched by their support. After everything she had undoubtedly been through, the Seeress would claim that which she sought after she was accepted not only by herself, but by others as well.
It was as moving as it was saccharine. Ardyn couldn’t wait for it to fall.
The wind swept at him harder than ever, and Ardyn squared himself against it. He wondered briefly how the girl had managed to not yet be swept away by it! He reached up to touch his hair, pushing it out of the way as he felt…
…Eyes. Something was watching them. The Astrals? Ardyn tensed and glanced over his shoulder. He saw nothing, but he couldn’t deny that feeling. That something was there just beyond the veil.
’Take what’s yours.’ The voice bellowed into his mind, a direct link from the gods themselves. Ifrit? Ardyn felt his breath stagger as he looked up to view the crystal again in all its power and corruption. What were the gods playing at? Encouraging him? Had the Infernian led him here, reincarnated after his dreadful encounter with the lady of ice? His fists clenched in resolve.
Well this changed everything.
Over the howl of the wind, the maiden had made her choice. ”If you are all content with me claiming the crystal, I shall do as such.” The woman looked closely between them all, and Ardyn wondered if she would notice his darkness hot and brimming at the edge of his dwindling human facade. ”Let us proceed for the harmony of this world, and that of our birth realms.”
Harmony. That was the antithesis of what he wanted. There would be no return to the world of light, to the old ways of cruel kingdoms and hypocritical kings. And yet, Ardyn was not the first to speak against her. Instead, it was the pauper emperor who rose to the challenge.
"Yeul," the man called. ”We must both claim the crystal. I believe we must both attain to the crystal if both of our ideas of harmony should be attained." Ardyn eyed him thoughtfully. The emperor’s change of demeanor mirrored his own.
The Seeress nodded her consent as she lowered a helm over her eyes. It was slightly too big for her and a little dramatic with its face carved into the visage of a dragon, but the look suited her in an odd way that brought out the essence of pure resolve. She was a battle maiden through and through, and as she approached the crystal, it seemed no one could possibly stand in her way.
It was too perfect a scene not to ruin.
Ardyn glanced at the blonde boy beside him and sighed. ”Well if they’re both to take it, then it seems quite unfair not to make a claim ourselves. Don’t you think?” He shot the boy a mischievous wink before flicking his wrist, pulling his sword from the void, and tossing it just right of the crystal. He felt a flood of magic overtake him followed by momentum and a wave of crimson light as he rushed towards the crystal with one hand outstretched to claim it.
