Hope had seen post traumatic stress before. He’d had moments of it himself, even if they weren’t terribly recurring. Over the thousand years of life that he had under his belt he had seen people overcome by it, some of them irreparably. It wasn’t hard for him to recognize the signs on Celes as she stood there, the once steady warrior now filled with doubt. He chose not to call attention to it, and instead made a note in the back of his mind not to do such magicks again without giving her some forewarning. Still, the front that she put on was a strong one; it was just a dragon, after all. He supposed that she had much more history with the draconic creatures than Hope himself did, and wondered if that managed to be the case of numerous people on this world at all. That was the first dragon that he had ever actually seen, let alone been close to, or had defeated. He was shaking with adrenaline. It wasn’t nice just to defeat a creature that he’d only ever encountered in fables, tales, and myths… it was nice just to feel the way he was. As though the dragon’s fall was a call to action, the others broke form their roosts, and they were on them within a moment’s respite. Hope hadn’t really even had a chance to catch his breath, and yet, Celes was right on them with powerful ice magic. She was amazing, just like Lightning had been. Like Lightning was. If they weren’t potentially about to get eaten by a murder of dragons, he would have taken a moment to marvel at the movements of a warrior. Hope was not a warrior. A few quick incantations, and Celes was again surrounded by a brilliant barrier of light, and more than that she would find her speed enhanced to deal with the dragons - Hope did the same thing for himself, and quickly dodged out of the way of a pair of talons that surely would have crushed him if he weren’t so quick now. Green eyes narrowed at the creature as he questioned what it was that he should do next. Something not to take Celes out of her mental space. Something not to scare her again. Fire and lightning, they were out. Ice might have been too expected… It was probably stupid for him to shut his eyes, but he spoke quickly, his mind raced. The incantations that he muttered were hard to hear, and even harder to understand. The dragon was nearly upon him, he could hear the flap of it’s wings and the roar of it’s cry. It was now, or it was never; he would be gone if he didn’t act quickly, and then it would be on Vanille and Fang to help Lightning. But no, he could do this. This was simple. He’d done it so many times before with so many creatures that were so stronger than this dragon. “Wind!” Hope cried, his eyes flying open and flashing with magickal energy. “Form a dangerous gale!” And as soon as he finished, the Dragon was on him, but was immediately blown back by a powerful gust of wind that overtook the area, before focusing on the dragon in front of Hope and raining own on it as though it were a cutting storm of blades. |
